Update: March 17th, 2025 - Crisis Averted

I don't mean for this Patreon to become Cyberpunk's Yellow Update tweets, but last night proved to be an... adventure.

TL;DR Listed at Bottom:

Taking a break and practically falling asleep in the evening, I woke up to find the last chunk of my project deleted from top to bottom, well, except for the markers you can see on the top right (blue is what I used to mark down SFX, the final step).

That's bizarre, must've hit Ripple Delete while typing something not knowing Resolve was still selected. No big deal, I'll just Undo (CTRL+Z) until it reappears. Over the years, I've deleted entire projects by accident probably hundreds of times, and just hit Undo with no problem recovering it.

However, I've learned that Resolve has a bug where even though your history list is logged, it, as well as the Undo shortcut can stop working.

For whatever reason, it's stuck at "Preferences Change". I can't recover where my project was because of a bug... well, that sucks, but I can just go to an earlier timeline. Probably just have to re-add a couple clips I collected from earlier that were already mapped out?

Right?

...

How Project Backups got deactivated, by accident, by intent, or even by error, be that humor or code, will be one of those unsolved mysteries that follows me to the day I die.

Not gonna lie, I haven't that sense of felt panic in years. Were the nightmare scenario of a project being deleted in its entirety the moment before completing it to have occurred, I'd be writing this telling you I'm saying fuck it and making something else.

Luckily, whenever I'm at a fork in the road of an edit structurally, I make a new timeline.

And Timeline 6 had the last chunk in its entity, with only a couple notable edits to remake. It still sucks, and sets me back a decent chunk, but comparatively to what could've happened instead, I got a bruise instead of a shotgun blast.

In a way this might've been a blessing too because had this scenario happened on a longer project in the future without a Project Backup to save it... I'm not sure how I'd handle that situation, and because of this leading me to turning it back on, I now won't ever need to find out.

TL;DR - A Resolve Bug deleted part of the project that thankfully was mostly saved by luck, but has unavoidably delayed the project during what was to be a final pass. The ordinary release of Patreon Posts (Recommendations, Q&A's, Randomly Mine) will resume shortly, and this is definitely the last post of this project that isn't the video itself.

I'm off to pick up Groceries today, and return to edit with a project completed rather than deleted... your support throughout has been amazing, and I hope you enjoy the end result.

Take care,
Raycevick

P.S.
Fellow editors... check your backups, just in-case.

You have me checking my resolve stuff too! Especially given I just figured out a stupid issue was solved by not clicking one box

Perhaps you should check into some file level version history backups, point it to the projects folder and only backup resolves file format
