Recommendations: A Requiem by Penelope Trappes

I've been on a real Modern Metal kick recently, so I forced myself to mix up the albums being added to my rotations to stop this from just being a ceaseless list of House of Protection, Crossfaith, Thornhill, and Memphis May Fire... though don't be surprised if I still shout-out the HOP EP when that's out in a couple months.

In the meantime, this pick is not in the same realm, let alone vein.

I have absolutely no reference point for Penelope's work, all I know is putting this Album on while traveling, it felt like I was playing a video-game, even though I was just sitting on the bus.

The eerie silences, defined strings, and synths that are somehow frequent, surprising, and subtle, along with Penelope's powerful range, it all creates a soundscape that'd very much belong in some kind of exploration or fantasy game. I imagine it playing as the Main Character rests in a field, staring out into the endless horizon, and that might be the best place to listen this album.

”Bandorai”, ”Platinum” and ”Sleep” gave me such Dark Souls 3 chills. Don't know if you played it but the eerie sounds and the strings and her voice with the silent pauses teleported me there in an instant. A world where thou you are but a small ashen one. Thanks for the recommendation!

Uhh interesting! I also been on a long metal ferry wheel and now I feel so burnt out by it. Will definitely give it a listen on my way to work tomorrow.
