Update: May 27th, 2025

Hey everybody!

I've been meaning to write this update for weeks now, the pattern being, I start writing my script for the Perfect Dark Zero video saying "I'll write the update after today's session," and then after four hours, I forget about it, and repeat.

That's one of the reasons why while spending the weekend reorganizing my room after buying new bookshelves (which I should've done years ago), I thought I'd also add a whiteboard and a physical clock to punch in.

A) The Next Video
One of my ideas after the last video regarding work was to literally allocate a specific amount of time per-weekday for the next project. Not a script, not a video, the next video, as a method of channeling the ADHD chaos.

The good news is that it does seem to be working. I'm still not at the habit of doing it every weekday due to not factoring in how to adapt it when the weekday is packed (two-weeks ago I was getting a scan at the hospital), but it's something I think can be worked out, and has already netted better results than with Rollerdrome.

However, I've not met my goal of getting it wrapped up in the month because while I'm consistently writing...

Writing things that stay in the final draft is more of a challenge.

I always keep deleted lines saved, as quite often I copy and paste them in later versions, but currently, with V7f at 2800 words, there's 3700 words being shelved. It's not about finding the things to say, but which things to prioritize.

Youtube will be yelling at me as the previous gap in uploads meant that, while the Rollerdrome video did exceedingly well given the game's limited exposure, the algorithm gods pulled it and the rest of the channel out of rotation pretty abruptly. It's not the attention that concerns me, I'm not exactly following the Meta, it just stacks more pressure to release this video sooner rather than later for the sake of my finances.

The Post-Mortem will certainly have a lot to discuss.

B) The Post-Mortem
Where is it? Normally I would've written one about Rollerdrome by now. The reason I haven't isn't prioritizing Perfect Dark, it's rather to live up to the title's purpose.

I have this tendency to not view something as "done" until it's 100% completed. What I mean by that is, in years past, I'd have a technical problem with my Phone or PC, and be unable to focus on other things until that technical problem was solved, even if all I could do was wait for a part to arrive from Amazon.

The Post-Mortems had this problem where rather than properly looking back at the project, I'd feel like I couldn't tackle the next project until 100% of the things related to the last video, including it's Post-Mortem was completed.

So I decided to force the issue, and say, I'm not going to do a Post-Mortem on a video until the one following it is done.

Thankfully, it hasn't caused a distracting lack of priority for Perfect Dark, as I seem to be vomiting words onto the page pretty consistently, and I've got a feeling it will make the Post-Mortems themselves better, as I'll actually be viewing them through a lens of lessons learned and things I've genuinely taken away from them, rather than coming fresh off the press with a chip on my shoulder.

C) An Idea
Sometime ago, I mentioned pitching an idea to y'all, and I didn't follow that up immediately as I started to have hesitancy about it, but that's why it should be mentioned, to get feedback from y'all.

Consuming away more media this year, I've been logging everything watched, played, and heard this year, and was even thinking about a Year In Review type of video on January 1st, where I rapid fire through everything and give my thoughts on them to varying length.

It didn't take long for the sheer scale of this project to overwhelm me, and now I'm quite hesitant on it, especially with its potential to just complicate things in the future should I ever talk more in-depth about the games or movies I summarized in the future. However, I considered still posting the "Reviews" I would've written for this project on Patreon.

My hesitance to this idea is adding a fourth thing on-top of Randomly Mine, Recommended, and Q&A. It's already quite a bit, and also, the origins of this idea came from a week of consuming a slew of art that was all C-Tier, making the Recommendations a little stressful.

I thought maybe I could say something about this C-Tier work instead of forcing myself to recommend something that week. However, not only is a "Review" quite a bit more stressful, I've been getting a lot of A-Tier stuff recently, enough to cue up the next few weeks.

I think it's just something to adapt to, but, if y'all are interested in these "Reviews", I'll keep that in mind.

Conclusion:
I think another reason this Update kept being postponed is that it's a mouthful.

TL-DR: "I'm Not Going to Defend Perfect Dark Zero..." is being written consistently, just with challenge. All future Post-Mortems will be written after the following video is completed. And I thought about writing Reviews on here, but don't want to clutter the Patreon feed.

The flow of donations that came in after Rollerdrome was a big, big help for me, as is everybody that's been and still here. Youtube is always on Content Creator's backs with Notifications, Alerts, and Algorithm charts with colored arrows. Y'all are the reason those things aren't what my entire existence depends on, and while of course, would like to be making more, y'all are the reason I get to do this at all, and as always, I don't know how I can thank you enough.

But I'll keep trying.

Here's to Summer!

Best wishes,
Raycevick

Also, a recommendation can be a call to approach, but also a call to avoid

Holy Shift

Late feedback, but – what if you renamed Recommendations into something along the lines of "This Week In Raycevick" (shit, it even rhymes), so you aren't tied to positive connotations and can post your thoughts on C-tier stuff as well
