Have you tried out NIN's TRON:Ares soundtrack? The whole thing is a banger; They are the perfect fit to compose the soundtrack that isn't just plainly movie scores, but has distinct feel in the same way I love about Health's spin on Max Payne 3 OST.
Absolutely!
What has me scratching my head isn't the album, it's quality from start to finish that manages to live up to the promise of this being a "NIN" scored film rather than just Trent & Atticus. I've heard some call it their best album in decades. As a staunch Hesitation Marks defender, I can't go that far, but it is really good, and I've listened start to finish multiple times already.
What has me scratching my head is how the film is going to use it?
I'm so apathetic about the film's release that I doubt I'll be making the effort to go see it, but I won't lie, there is that little part of me that's curious where it previously wasn't; just the question of how literally used this score is...
Like, do you just start hearing Trent scream "GIVE ME SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN" during a chase scene? I really love "I Know You Can Feel It" - sounds like something straight off of Hesitation Marks actually - but my mind can't immediately place it in a film scene, at least with vocals.
But yeah, I've often loved the results of "Bands" working on film & game scores and that love continues; were I to ever direct a project, I hope to do myself.
The dream would be scores with Chemical Brothers, Death From Above 1979, Northlane, Wargasm (UK), Joey Valence & Brae, and Chelsea Wolfe.
Oh, and Nine Inch Nails.
