SiN Emergence is like a metal remix of a classic song.
Is it better than the material it's clearly modelling itself after? No.
But it has a charm that's unique while still reminding you of that classic.
I personally couldn't get into the original SiN for a variety of reasons, ones that could resolve with just a couple tweaks so hopefully Nightdive's Remaster will do exactly that. In the meantime, I hopped into the first of Ritual Entertainment's nine episode sequel to SiN that unfortunately ended up being their swansong, and had a blast from start to finish.
What impressed me most was the pacing and combat.
SiN's over the top late 90s comic-book isn't just witnessed in its literal in your face TNA but in how enemies explode into pieces, the velocity of their ragdolls, and sheer number of ways to blow them up in the environment. It carries all of Half Life 2's strengths and faults with enough weird deviations for better and worse that I ended up feeling sad that this is where the franchise ends, despite knowing what I signed up for.
