Recommendations: Kate + Akane

Why recommend both of these games?

Well... they're kinda brother and sister? I played Kate: Collateral Damage first, because I watched Netflix's action-film vehicle for Mary Elizabeth Winstead that wasted her talents, and was baffled to see the actress in question playing a pixel-art Indie looking game based on the film.

I was expecting a phoned in cash-grab but I was rather taken aback to find a genuinely great combat system, and it turns out the reason why is because the indie developer carried over much of the DNA from their previous game Akane.

I wouldn't recommend buying either of these at full-price. Kate because you can beat it in under two-hours, and Akane because in the vein of games like Devil Daggers, will require a commitment to playing the same loop over and over and over to see the further depths of it's gameplay.

But I'm rather disappointed to not see this combat in a third installment by the developer, because if it can make Kate good, then it can do anything.
