Recommendations: The Ides of March

Nothing like starting the new year by recommending... a 10+ year old film?

Don't think that'll become a popular saying, but after re-watching Andor (a show previously recommended here), it was striking how much I missed Beau Williamon's writing from House of Cards.

Beau was one of Andor's writers, and his talant for political thrillers was applied brilliantly to that shows many scenes of Coruscant; it's refreshing for Star Wars to have good dialogue.

However, as I can't recommend House of Cards for its inevitable disappointment after the early Seasons... as well as the obvious) I thought I'd rewatch a film he wrote I'd only seen bits of as a kid.

Couple minutes in, I was already loving it, and falling more in love as it continued.

It's not just Beau demonstrating his ability to write any scene, be it funny, horrific, cute, or tense, and make it compelling, its also completed with great performances by all actors involved, and probably George Clooney's best directing.

I'd need to rewatch Confessions of a Dangerous Mind to confirm that last part, but either way, if you grew up with that show like I did, and want that juicy material without the disappointment or elephant in the room, Ides of March is for you.
