Goddamn this is a great show. I appreciate Jeff breaking down the SA scenes, I've gotten questions about them from people I've recommended the show to that I didn't have the words to answer with.

Then after Cour 1 ended I picked up the Manga and blown away🤯 Dan-Da-Dan is easily in my top 10 Favorite Anime/Manga I would put in the top 5 along with One Piece and Chainsaw Man

2025-09-24 07:50:25 +0000 UTCThe main thing I was expecting to touch on was the uncomfortable SA themes and, while I get it puts off a lot of newcomers, including those scenes is sometimes the only real way to make the right point. As a UK resident. I’ll point to Black Mirror, the popular sci-fi dystopian thriller anthology and remind folks that the first episode of that show was about a leading government figure being forced into performing sex on a pig live on TV to make an extremely poignant statement, a statement that would’ve been hideously undermined if the narrative set up to make it was any less extreme. As opposed to Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why which spends its entire run sending the wrong message, dumping the only scene which could make that right due to public pressure and keeping the scene that is sure to make it worse. The high ups on 13RW were cowards. Tatsu and Charlie Brooker weren’t. You want people to watch your show, yes, but if you want to make a statement, half measures will not cut it. Dispensing with the safety of ensuring your audience can take it is sometimes just necessary, because you cannot make a point if you just don’t make the point. And I, as a writer, personally think it’s an admirable skill to have.

2025-09-24 02:20:21 +0000 UTCI wonder if Tatsu saw the movie Detention and realized he could improve on the "every teenager is a protagonist of a different story" idea. It's very effective! I'm in the middle of rewatching the series and I realized that everything up to Jiji's arrival takes place within ONE WEEK. These kids caught feelings like dry brush catches a spark! That seat-of-his-pants writing resulted in every new arc starting the morning after a previous arc ends. Insane.
