The BEST Anime of 2025 (Uncensored)

Geoff not allowing himself to make a list longer than a top 10, but then just telling us places 11-15 as "runner-ups" is why we love him.

Lucario2405

Thank you, Geoff for promoting Apoc. It's great. My top show wasn't picked up by the US platforms, but a workplace romance where the show begins after the (28yo) main characters have had sex was a show I had to watch. 1. I Have a Crush at Work (Can you keep a secret) 2. Ninja and Assassin Under One Roof 3. Catcher at the Ballpark 4. Apocalypse Hotel 5. Yano-kun's Ordinary Days 6. Uma Musume: Cinderella Grey 7. There's No Freaking Way I'll be your Lover, Unless... 8. May I ask for one final thing? 9. Kowloon Generic Romance 10. New Panty & Stocking w/ Garterbelt

JWpilot01

That episode of your #1 anime where she goes looking for that chip, and then she finds it, I didn't think I had it in me to feel the feels I felt.

Benicio del Sanchez

Evil Lord of a galactic got so much content cut from the manga it's criminal

zayian3

I liked Apocalypse Hotel a lot but it was actually the other other hotel-themed show that was my number one: Hotel Inhumans. I skipped around the runner ups list so maybe I missed it but I don't think it got mentioned... oh I hope it wasn't on the worst list. Solo Camping for Two was also on my top of 2025 list and it didn't get a mention. Banger year for sure though.

Bleeps

It's been on my watchlist for quite a while now. Guess I have to change that rather soon.

HF_Alex

Wow that hotal one made #1? Its prob in my maybes list somewhere but I had forgotten about it. Guess ill need to find time for it and Clevitas soon.

crusadurus

Everything from Cygames Pictures being so good makes me really hope the rumors they're doing the adaptation for Kagurabachi are true.

SunShine

Nyiaght of the Living Cat was a fun Anime of 2025 especially if you’re a cat lover

Teddy Bess

I haven't been much of an anime watcher since high school but I've been wanting to get back into it recently, definitely filling up the to-watch list with this one

Aidan Boyle

Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider is unhinged and I love it.

Robert Lawrence

I've been feeling so guilty for not watching apocalypse hotel. Looks like that guilt was totally justified πŸ˜…

So happy I joined the patreon for, among other reasons, the ability to watch these without intrusive ads while still being able to support.

Atticus Arkin

one big thing about Gachiakuta to me is that I have never seen a Graffitti Artist credited on the cover of a manga before. or any comic or big media for that matter. Full equal level with the mangaka. (and very deservedl)y that is just so cool and to me says so much about the series already

rhyfu

Milky Subway is on youtube.Summer Hikaru Died and Umamusume Cinderella Gray are netflix exclusive, as is 100 meters which comes out on the 30th. Everything else is on crunchyroll

Mother's Basement

Gentlemen, help me out here. How do I view any of these shows?

J_blackwood

I thought the ending tied the themes of the piece together very nicely, even if it is more of an emotional solution than a logical one. Takopi couldn't help either of them with his sycophantic toxic positivity; he needed to get out of the way so they could find solidarity in each other.

Mother's Basement

holy crap I'm embarassed to admit I completely blanked on Rascal. Haven't gotten around to catching up on in yet because I wanted to watch it with yazy. thanks for reminding me!

Mother's Basement

I do think takopi got a little more credit than it deserved. Animation? Soundtrack? Absolutely incredible. I think the story itself ended with a bit of a narrative cop-out though. Not spoiling it for those who havent watched it.. but you know what I mean if you had seen it.

Sassmasta

I started the dub of Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider as a backup anime so I wasn't only watching Punch Princess every week, and as of about episode 5 I was looking forward to Tojima far more every week. That anime fucking rules. However, Zenshu is still my top anime of the year, which ironically got started for the same reason as Tojima, only as a backup for Apothecary Diaries.

CiaphasKirby

Shoshimin 2 was so good! The op is even better than in season 1 and Osanai gets up to some wild Osanai behavior

Momo

Let's Go Karaoke! and Dekin no Mogura are the only anime I watched this year not already mentioned that I'd say should have at least been in the runners up. Mogura was a really fun series of ghost stories that suffered from some pacing issues toward the end, with a really fun art style and a great sense of humor. Let's Go was one of the most deeply uncomfortable anime I've seen. Shoshimin season 2 is also absolutely worth picking up. Love the fucked up shit our two protagonists get up to and the animation is startlingly gorgeous

Momo

Milky Subway was probably my top choice for this year, There's too many to choose from. Silent Witch was awesome and...wait - did you say there was a 2nd season of Shoshumin? HOW DID I MISS THAT!!!

EB

I just spent the last hour making notes on MAL as you went up the list. I've only finished Zenshuu (I forgot that was this year!) and HikaNatsu, I have SO MUCH to catch up on. Thanks for the overflowing Honorable Mentions and Sequel shout-outs, too! I know I can catch up with at least some of them :P Have a restful holiday season, Geoff. You do great work!

LF R

Your quarterly lists always left me with at least two or three new anime that I felt I had to check out immediately and every one of them turned out to be awesome! The Summer Hikaru Died was definitely my favorite this year. But now I fear that I won't have the time to catch up on all the great picks from this list that I haven't watched yet (especially number 1) until the next slate of anime comes out.

Lucario2405

This year blew me away with the sheer number of returning anime and new bangers boasting quality, quantity, AND variety, reminding me of why I came to have such a deep affection for this medium in the first place. The fact that this year of anime has not only beat the impossibly high odds of topping the past few years' lineup (which were similarly legendary) but will instantly have its crown threatened by the influx of next season's lineup alone (not to mention the grand return of cult-classic, influential, and beloved series such as Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Youjo Senki, etc.) is a testament to how anime has truly evolved and flourished past anyone's limits and expectations in this current decade, let alone the turn of the millennia and before.

Frontier Psychiatrist

GNOSIA is an anime that should never have worked but they somehow made it amazing

Alis

GNOSIA is an awesome anime even if it was based on a Mafia/Werewolf type deduction game. The characters are great.

Stephen Staver

I can hardly fight with anything since either its a personal favorite that missed the list or I haven't watched so I'm more than happy to defer. The ONE exception was that I really wish Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus had made it on the the sequels segment. It might not have been nearly as strong emotionally as Bunny Girl or the movies but I do think the mystery element was much better managed and the new characters gave a lot of freshness to the story.
