Karin Uzumaki was a smart woman. She knew the moment that an epidemic spread across the Elemental Nations, it would affect everyone.

However, she didn't expect it to hit so hard.

Her old village, Kusagakure, was in quarantine lockdown from what she heard. It was rare for anybody to go in or out of the Hidden Grass Village.

After traveling with Orichimaru, she had expected a better life for herself. She had formed a team, named Hebi, with Sasuke Uchiha.

His charming good looks and stoic personality attracted her to him. Sure, he might've tossed her aside and treated her like trash, but he was good-looking! That's what mattered most...right?

The team was small, consisting only of herself, Sasuke, Jugo, and Suigetsu.

It didn't last for very long.

Once the Chakra Plague spread across the nations, there was no stopping it. Karin tried, she really did, but even her medical expertise didn't slow it down.

It didn't discriminate in killing men or women, wiping them from the face of the planet. Although Karin learned that it leaned toward mainly targeting males, explaining why her teammates got it first.

At first, Sasuke, Jugo, and Suigetsu thought they would be fine. A cough here, a sneeze there, nothing major.

Then, one by one, they died. Karin remembered it all so vividly.

Suigetsu was the first to fall, dying as they traveled through the lands of Kiri. He fell in his homeland, finding peace in his final moments.

The female Uzumaki tried to offer her arm to him, hoping to buy him extra life, but the man refused. He had come to terms with it.

Jugo and Sasuke fell next. They had been searching one of Orochimaru's abandoned hideouts when they suddenly collapsed.

Jugo died without a word, his heart stopping as he hit the floor. Karin didn't get a chance to help him.

When offering Sasuke her arm, the Uchiha turned her away. He explained that the virus mainly spreads through bodily contact, meaning she was at a higher risk if his saliva came into contact with her.

He perished soon after, next to Jugo. Karin only had the dark hallway of Orochimaru's hideout to comfort her.

Taking the time to bury them, Karin became something of a wandering ninja. She didn't have a goal in mind, feeling lost and confused.

Why didn't she die? Why was she specifically spared from the virus? What made her so special?

Karin still didn't know. She had spent days on end near the men when they were infected. If anything, she should've contracted it and died by now.

But she hadn't. She was the lone survivor of Team Hebi.

Now, her feet had dragged her to the Land of Waves. The very same village that promoted the 'Naruto Bridge.'

Deciding to spend the day there, Karin took the time to relax. She walked into the closest pub, deciding to order a few drinks from the bartender.

The redhead was leaning against a bar, a dull headache making her squint both eyes. The small bottle of alcohol was nearly empty in her hand as the woman thought of where she should head next.

Suddenly, her ears perked up at a certain piece of information.

"Did you hear?!" A villager spoke from the corner of the bar, sitting a few tables away, "Konoha has found a cure to the Chakra Plague! We're expected to get our first shipments tomorrow!"

"A vaccine, not a cure. There's a difference," An old man huffed out while downing a cup of sake. "I'm not a medic, but Tsunami taught me a thing or two over the years."

"Your daughter was always the sharp one, Tazuna," The villager replied with a laugh.

Karin glanced over, watching as another villager joined the two men at the table.

"You two talking about the vaccine?" The new man asked with a wide grin, "I'm pretty excited about it. My wife and kids are ready to get it first thing in the morning."

"How'd Konoha make that happen so fast? I mean, sure, they're probably the strongest hidden village, but c'mon! That takes some medical process!"

"Don't sell them short, they have Tsunade as their Hokage. She's very proficient in the medical field; it's no surprise they managed to have this breakthrough," The new villager responded, downing a swig from his bottle.

"I also heard Naruto helped put it together. That damn Uzumaki brat is still helping others even after all these years," Tazuna laughed, memories flooding his mind. "It doesn't surprise me to hear he had something to do with it. That's just who he is."

He was a good kid, so it was comforting to hear he still had his helpful nature as an adult. Tazuna hadn't seen him in years, but it was a reminder that he put his faith in a good person.

As for Karin, however, she felt her eyes widen.

There was another Uzumaki? Not only that, but he helped put together the only known vaccine. How had she not heard about this?

So many questions popped into her mind. And right now, it seemed this group of villagers held the answers.

Taking a final swig of her bottle, the redhead walked over to the table.

"Mind if I take a seat?" She asked, adjusting her glasses.

One of the men grinned as he eyed her curvy form, "Well, I didn't think this village had such sweet eye candy! It's-oof!"

He felt the air leave his lungs as Tazuna elbowed him firmly. Shaking his head in disapproval, he glanced over to Karin.

"Sure thing, we have room for one more."

Nodding her thanks, the woman pulled up a wooden chair and sat down. With nothing but burning curiosity, she began her tirade of questions.

"I couldn't help but overhear that you mentioned some vaccine. What's that all about?" She asked while staring at Tazuna. The man seemed more informed than the other two.

"It's pretty much what we said earlier," Tazuna shrugged, "We recently got news that Konoha is sending over shipments of vaccines. Granted, we're trading resources and contracts for it, but it's well worth it if you ask me."

"Uh-huh," Karin spoke after a moment. The medical portion of her mind was running wild, wondering just how they managed to accomplish such an achievement. She had been a medic both in Team Hebi and Kusagakure, so it made her genuinely curious.

It was a sign that not all hope was lost. Perhaps the Elemental Nations weren't as lost as she thought before.

She couldn't get Sasuke back, but it sounded like someone just as special was making waves.

"What about this Uzumaki you mentioned...Naruto was his name?" Karin asked hesitantly, unsure if she got it right.

Finding another Uzumaki would've been mindblowing for the Kunoichi. Her entire life, she assumed her clan had been slaughtered. Either killed or lost to the sands of time.

Yet, there was a chance that she was wrong on that end as well. Karin hoped she was wrong.

"Oh, Naruto? Ha!" Tazuna chuckled in a hearty tone, his voice full of warmth as he spoke, "Yeah, he was a scrawny brat back then. But I heard it was his blood that helped put this entire fiasco together. He's a good man."

"You said Naruto Uzumaki? You're sure his last name was Uzumaki?" Karin repeated with an anticipated look on her face.

"Well, that's what he always called himself," Tazuna shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. He had only known him by that name, so it made sense that it was his real name.

"An Uzumaki...in Konoha? Can it be?" Karin thought with bated breath.

With a firm desire and a new resolve, the redhead knew what she had to do next.

She was making a trip to Konoha.

Naruto yawned, stretching his hands above his head. He was feeling the day catch up to him.

The sun was beginning to set in the distance, and his body was soaked with sweat. He had spent all day at the training grounds, trying his best to learn the Hiraishin jutsu.

Shion had left the day before in high spirits, claiming his seed had fertilized her eggs. She promised her vision would come true.

If that was the case, the blonde wanted to ensure he could see his child whenever he wanted. That meant he had to cross large distances in a moment if he wanted to make it work.

So far, he wasn't making the best progress. His experience with seals had grown under Jiraiya's tutelage, but he was still a novice when it came to time-space manipulation. That was an entirely new field to him.

Tsunade had given him access to the jutsu from the Hokage vault, allowing Naruto to get an in-depth look at the technique. Even after studying it for hours, he hadn't made much progress.

He had used about two hundred shadow clones to look over the jutsu's formulas. Those same shadow clones experimented in different ways, getting the ins and outs of how it worked.

So far, he was working on making his insignia when placing down markers. That was something the user had to make on their own, as there was no blueprint for that. It was difficult, but Naruto wasn't one to give up.

Just as he planned on taking another crack at it, he heard someone land on the grass behind him. Turning around, he was surprised to see Yugao in her ANBU gear.

"Tsunada-sama has requested you," Her soft voice rang out, her purple hair fluttering in the wind.

"Has she? What for?" Naruto responded with a teasing smirk.

"I-ooh~!" Yugao squealed out, feeling the blonde wrap an arm around her waist. Pulling her close, he parted her mask slightly to plant his lips on hers.

His tongue began assaulting her teeth and gums in quick succession. They traded spit as Yugao melted into his touch, wrapped her arms around his firm back.

Thankfully, the training ground wasn't too far from the Hokage's office. Once he got into the village, he bounced from roof to roof. His sandals clattered against the tiles, his leg muscles tensing with each jump.

Finally arriving, the blonde decided to enter through the open window. An homage to his late sensei, who often did the same.

Blinking in surprise, Naruto didn't recognize the redhead standing in the room. She stood across from Tsunade, both hands cupped in front of her.

He had to admit, she was quite the looker. He didn't know if it was because of her hair color or beautiful features, but Naruto could tell she was an attractive woman.

The more he thought about it, maybe he really did have a preference in hair color.

Naruto was so stunned, he had to do a double-take, not believing his ears. Karin giggled at his reaction as she reacted the same way back in the Land of Waves.

Noticing his reaction, Tsunade chuckled, "I know, I was surprised too."

Continuing, Karin spoke, "I've come here because I heard Konoha developed the first vaccine for the Chakra Plague. As someone who's trained in the medical field and lost close friends to this disease, I wanted to offer my services."

"Sorry, I'm still reeling from the fact that my clan isn't completely extinct," Naruto chuckled after a moment. Hopping into the office, he dusted off his clothing.

Glancing over at the visitor, Naruto could confidently say he never thought of people with glasses as being sexy. Strangely, however, Karin seemed to pull off the look perfectly.

The Uchiha had a pretty boy look that Karin gushed over, but Naruto was handsome in a different way. He had a rugged charm about him, a feral look that Karin was beginning to like.

His clothing style wasn't half bad. It was a nice combination that didn't hurt her eyes, which was surprising as Karin wasn't fond of orange.

Deciding to get a better feel for him, the redhead closed her eyes. She used her sensory abilities to get a good idea of who he was and nearly stumbled back.

"H-His chakra...it feels never-ending!" Karin thought in shock, "It feels so much...warmer than Sasuke's did. Like I'm standing next to the sun."

"Whoa, are you okay?" Naruto asked in concern, nearly reaching out to help steady her. Out of nowhere, this woman seemed to lose her balance.

"Yeah, sorry, I just got a head rush. I'll be fine," Karin waved off as she readjusted her glasses.

Nodding, Naruto stood back up. Just as he was about to speak, he furrowed his brows in confusion.

It seemed like there were...bite marks on arms? Even a few on her legs.

He didn't want to press the issue yet, deciding to keep it to himself for now.

"Well, looking over the documents you gave me, it seems you are quite skilled in the medical field," Tsunade said aloud as she riffled through some papers. "We can always use more medics. If you're willing, I can have you trained to our standards by the end of the week. I can even have you started working by the end of the month."

"I would love that, thank you, Tsunade-sama," Karin bowed. She wanted to show the right respect to the village leader, who was realistically taking a chance on some unknown Kunoichi.

"So, where do you come from, Karin?" Naruto cocked his head to the side, genuinely curious. He wanted to know the woman.

"I'm originally from Kusagakure, but I haven't been back there in years. I worked with Oto for a while before my team died to the Chakra Plague," Karin explained in a calm tone, "I even worked with someone who came from Konoha."

"Oh, really? What was their name?" Naruto asked. He wondered if he might've known the person.

"Sasuke Uchiha."

Naruto nearly felt his heart drop. Out of all people, Karin worked with Sasuke?!

"Sasuke? You worked with Sasuke?" Naruto rubbed the back of his head, "Wow, what a small world. I used to be teammates with him before he ran off..."

"You were?" Karin asked with wide eyes. She didn't know this as Sasuke rarely opened up about his past. He never spoke about any friends or teammates he had back in Konoha, preferring to keep to himself.

Tsunade made a mental note to secretly keep an eye on Karin. She didn't think the woman was malicious, but you could never be too sure. Especially when they worked with a rogue ninja from their village.

"Well, while we get you situated, we'll have to find you a place to stay," Tsunade spoke nonchalantly. She prepared to add Karin to a long list of candidates for their medics.

"Actually," Naruto spoke up, "How would you like to spend the night with me until you get a permanent residence? I have extra room where I live."

He wanted to hear more about their clan, along with learning about Sasuke.

"W-well...i-if you don't mind," Karin blushed, feeling butterflies soar through her chest. She wasn't used to a man outright saying they wanted to spend time with her. Even when she chased after Sasuke and showed him affection, he threw it all away with annoyance.

This blonde, rugged-looking hunk was taking an interest in her. It might've been for simple reasons, but she liked his gaze. The gleam in his eyes when he talked to her.

"Great," Karin spoke, "...because I was thinking of something. If his blood helped, I was wondering if my blood could be used as well? Since we're both from the Uzumaki clan, perhaps there are some antibodies in my blood you can study. Maybe even advance the vaccine into a cure?"

"That...is not a bad idea at all," Tsunade whispered after a moment of thought. It held some logical foundation, but it was yet to be seen if Karin's hypothesis held any weight. They only had a small pool to pull from with Naruto, so expanding that pool could expand their research.

"Smart thinking, I would've never even thought of that," Naruto complimented with a genuine tone of kindness.

Fighting back her atomic blush, Karin appreciated her approval. She wasn't used to her ideas being heard.

"Come by tomorrow so we can draw a vial of your blood. We can't know for sure, but I'm willing to see what we can do," Tsunade assured.

"Sounds good," Karin agreed.

"Alright!" Naruto slammed a fist into his open palm. Just the thought of advancing the vaccine got his heart pumping. A part of him wanted to see it succeed.

With their sleeping arrangements sorted and the sun going down, Karin followed Naruto back to the Senju Compound.

As they walked, the two shared jokes and stories. Their laughs rang out, their feet staying in tandem as they walked.

They got so lost in conversation, neither noticed that it looked like they were dating.

"Sasuke never joked with me...or kept pace with me...or even spoke to me much," Karin thought as she watched Naruto's face. His expressions were wild, joyful, and free. He wasn't scared to express himself with each movement.

The brooding Uchiha had a habit of distancing himself from the team, often walking ahead. It was small, psychological acts, but it saddened Karin. She felt like he was never truly comfortable with them.

As Naruto continued to spend time with her, Karin was confused.

She couldn't picture that these two individuals were once teammates. They were worlds apart in personality and character.

Naruto continued with his story, gesturing with his hands as they walked. Karin listened intently, latching on to each word with keen ears.

As they neared the Senju Compound, Karin had one thought running through her mind.

"...what did I ever see in Sasuke?"

The bar was set at the bare minimum for Karin, as she wasn't used to the male gaze. Nobody before had joked with her so freely as Naruto did.

For once, Karin basked in the attention of another man. She wasn't having to chase after anybody this time. She didn't have to go through obstacles just to catch a glance.

Even Naruto's smile brightened her face. She could've gotten lost in his chakra for hours.

They had only met, but Karin wondered if she had found her life partner in that moment.

A few days had gone by since Karin first visited Konoha.

In that time, she had quickly gotten down her training. After being evaluated, she was promoted to a nurse. It was a nice change of pace for the vagabond Kunoichi.
