I generally prefer to listen to the live performances when it comes to OOR, and there is no tour DVD for this one (IIRC correctly, their main tour and next single got cancelled after their lead guitarist Alex got arrested, and they only did a smaller tour after their enforced hiatus and regrouping as a four-piece later the following year), so from this album only the songs that became more of a staple during later tours have really made it onto my permanent playlist, though I really love those. I have a soft spot for Koi No Aibou Kokoro No Cupido which is such a high-energy, fun song live, I love Kaimu for the super-emo lyrics, and they have actually just brought back Living Dolls for the Japan leg of the Detox tour. It's strange to think that this could have been where One OK Rock ended. Instead they came out of this stronger and better than ever and the next 3 albums are my absolute favourites. Thanks for this listen-through of a much-neglected album (for me). It was just what I needed to get through my post-concert blues. OOR were fabulous last week in London, and it was great hearing my favourites from the Detox album live. Party's Over was brilliant (even if Taka, bless him, forgot the lyrics in the second verse, and it was the song he struggled with vocally the most) with an interesting new additional guitar solo intro, C.u.r.i.o.s.i.t.y absolutely rocked with Toru doing the rap verse, Taka doing screams in Puppets Can't Control You and Make It Out Alive (also with an extended breakdown for some circle pit moshing), and an extended version of The Pilot. Toru in particular I felt got more chances to shine with more guitar solo moments. Worth checking out some fan cams. And Paledusk were an absolute blast as openers. I've never gelled with their music, but damn, it comes across much better live and their whole set was fire. Can't wait for the next 3 album reactions. I fully expect I'll be saying "This one's my favourite" each time, LOL.
