Taelia Fordragon

And she's finished!

Had a lot of fun with this image, mainly because it was such an oportunity to draw my version, since there isn't really any reference of her (besides her ingame model, which is just a generic female human in wow).

And it's been quite a while since I drew metal, textures and such, so it was very refreshing to be able to put to test the new things that I learned in the past months =D

About the character, in a way, she's a lot like Leah from Diablo (minus the bad ending lol). She grew up hearing stories of heroes, great deeds and conflicts of the past, so she became quite and adventurous type. So she has that "lets get this done" attitude.

The background I used as reference an screenshot that I took in Boralus, just to make sure it was as close as possible to the game (it's one of those lower docks near the main alliance ship).

So I hope you guys like her!

I'd have to disagree 100% with that. Yes, the style I draw their faces is similar? Sure. But that happens with pretty much any artist I know. Each have your own style and you have a "generic blueprint" on your head on how to draw faces, and it's really hard to steer away from it while drawing. But saying the characters are the same is a very long stretch. The attitude between characters is different, expression is different, hair is different, eyebrows are different ...The bodies are also very different between characters, some are fit, some are more curvy, some have bigger breasts, or smaller breasts and so forth. Also the whole scene is completely different from drawing to drawing. Not even Iris I manage to draw the exact same way every drawing, even trying. The idea is always the same, but there are always subtle differences on her face. I respect your opinion, but like I said, I disagree. I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say it's always the same character on every drawing.

Why do you always draw the same character? :(

Thank you! I really liked the result on this one. Specially her gear! ... and her lack of gear! ;D

I was slightly worried about that to lol. But then as the drawing evolved she went on a different direction (that I honestly can't tell who it reminds me of. It's one actress that I forgot the name). I've been wanting so much to draw materials (metal, leather etc) and apply the new things I learned in the past months, so I had a blast with it!

love it. The attention to the details is staggering.

Love how this turned out! In the sketch I thought she looked like Iris a lot but the colors really brought out the difference. Nice work on making a generic model more unique. The texture of her clothes are gorgeous too, especially the chest piece.

It's indeed a very cool character. In a way she reminds me of Brigitte (OW) and Leah (diablo). Those characters that have a very positive attitude despite all odds, and are willing to put themselves in the fire to protect those in danger. And they all aspire to have their own adventures. So I think it creates a nice mix of "naive, yet cute, yet badass" character =D

Thanks! It was such a cool image to work at. It's been a while since I painted textures in armor, and I really wanted to put to test the new things that I learned in the past months. I think the last one that I did that had actual armor was Sylvanas, months ago. And it's something that I really wanted to improve. I like the armor texture that I did before, but I wasn't a 100% happy with the coloring, and in this one I tried something new that worked out really well. I like it a lot that it has all those color nuances and gradients. It's a result that I wanted to achieve for quite some time. Overall I think I improved significantly in the coloring department, which was always my biggest struggle. The images look a lot more "alive" now in terms of coloring in my opinion =D

glad you liked her!

Since her introduction in BfA I instantly found a liking in Taelia. Her story was interesting and the character self was pretty fascinating to follow. Specially having such a legendary name, as Fordragon, intrigued me to see where her story goes. You did really great, creating an interpretation of the character in your own style. I am very fond of the relaxed atmosphere in Boralus harbor. You also chose quite the interesting angle. It feels unique; allowing a view on the skyline. Fantastic work Krys!

Oh I love the colours that you've used here, Taelia's skin tones in particular look fantastic with those spots of sunlight shining on her face, neck and running down her arms and calves. These warm colours pop particularly nicely against the blue sky and I do like how the sky is a different shade of blue on each side. The warm light shining onto her cuirass also looks wonderful too, adding a warm contrast to the cold steel material. The detail in the background is great too with just enough detail added to the distant buildings to make it clear what they are, but not so much that they distract from Taelia herself. The rendering is as fantastic and full of detail as ever. I really like her hair and the strands it splits off into, as well as how the hair alongside her face drapes over the sections below it. Her skin looks terrific, as does the definition of her anatomy, particular favourite areas being her neck as well as her left forearm where you can see the muscles twisting beneath the skin, highlighted by the bright sunlight shining on them. Her face is just beautiful and so warm and endearing with the colours and her expression. You did a great job on her smile with the textures of her lips and the subtle movements of her cheeks and area surrounding her mouth. I do also love her arms and neck and how there is still a painterly texture to her skin that shows through particularly in those areas. All of her clothing and armour is equally well done, the engravings in her cuirass, the clear change in planes with the transitions from her breasts to her ribs and then her stomach, with the texture of the metal all look outstanding, the colours again being a big part of making it look so appealing. The scale-mail along her left thigh, the textures of her pants with the folds in the material as well as the warm lighting running along the edges that further define them, and the frayed edges of her arm wraps and the subtle lighting that defines her knuckles are all terrific too. This is one of those paintings where the more I look at it, the more I notice things to enjoy, like I just noticed the reflection of the waters surface onto the underside of the planks she's sitting on, a really great attention to detail there. Outstanding work on this painting ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
