Lady Katrana Prestor

Hey everyone, Lady Katrana Prestor is finished!

I was going to finish on friday, but I wanted to give a final pass and make sure everything was as good as it gets =D. So here she is!

It was really interesting to make this image, because not only I love to make some crossed legs, I think the light and shadows completely change the final result. Also, it was a really cool contrast to have the regular Stormwind blue on the background against her red/purple dress. And I wanted to make sure she had slightly different eyes, based on her dragon form.

Hope you guys like it!

thank you! It was a nightmare to get the angles right, but it worked out in the end lol

Lee

Yeah.. I’d probably let her treat me like shit

Faeginn

Wow! Amazing work! Love what you did with the dark and light. The sunlight so awesome from her body to the floor.

Pathetic little Peons.....

Rightender

thanks! I thought they really added to the character =)

Lee

thank you!

Lee

Thanks! It's always fun to make that kind of attitude on the drawings lol

Lee

thanks! I'm really glad with how the colors worked out in the end =D

It turned out great, it's cool that you could do it early, and yes, the dragon's eyes are simply incredible!

VitAnyaNaked

Stellar. The shadows, the eyes, and the pose are so well done.

Holy Wow! That expression is so amazing. Such condescension, confidence, and scorn. Someone who truly knows how powerful she is and just how small you are. Love this so so much.

Aislinn Bailey

Wow! I knew from the line art that this was gonna be good but the shading and colors turned out stunning

Thank you! I have to say that it was really interesting to paint this one, for several reasons. First that I wanted to make a pose that was slightly tilted to the side, a mix of relaxed but imposing. So I had one of her legs following the angle of the light and the other going vertical almost straight to divide the image. Second, doing the shadows. As I mentioned in another reply, I usually make the shadows on multiple layers across the image (for example, the shadows of her between the body and the chair, the shadows of the chair between the chair and the background and so forth). But this time around I tried something that I first used on Iris "Morning Series". Painting all the shadows in a single layer on top. It made much easier to blend the whole thing together and keep the color consistent across the image, but at the same time is not something easy to do. Mainly because I needed to have very clear on my mind what I wanted in terms of shadows and how to build the "volume" of the light in a single layer. It's easier to do, but harder from a technical standpoint. Also, something that I'm trying in the past few drawings, like I did with Korra's "Balance" image is to have the background more "painted". I think this is something that's really interesting if well executed. Painting more detail closer to the focal point, and being a bit more "brush strokes" to the edges. There are a few big artists that I follow that do that and I'm think it's a technique that will fit nicely in my drawings. And lastly when I started coloring, I absolutely loved the contrast and how "solid" the blue in the background looks. It looked like actual paint, so I'm really happy with the result.

Thanks! I thought it would be interesting to have different eyes and slightly glowy to give an idea that she's more than a regular person =D And about making a full dragon it would depend on the scene. Because while it would take more time to detail a dragon body, you wouldn't have things like clothing or all those background tiny details that also take a lot of time. So it might even out the time required at the end.

Lee

thanks! The feet had a bit of back and forth because the shape was a bit weird at first lol

Lee

Awesome work dude. Quickly became one of my favorites. I especially like the legs and feet.

ViperCG

Love those eyes, they look like they're staring through me. It's a great pose as well, and the bare feet is a nice touch. Gotta say a Warcraft dragon would make for a great painting, though I wager it would definitely require an amount of time and effort. Thanks again Krys.

Oh yes, I had been seriously looking forward to seeing the lighting and colours in the finished painting and I am most definitely not disappointed! I love the contrasts with Katrana's warm skin and the red parts of her dress popping against the blue drapery and the cool steel of her throne, as well as the cool-toned cushioning of the throne too. I also love how these colours have a lot of variety within them, like the multiple light and dark hues to the blue, with her dress being split between a cooler purple as well as a warmly lit red, with that cool purple also being warmly lit in multiple places to add even more contrast. Katrana's golden eyes also pop very strikingly against the shadows shrouding her face, with the strong contrast in light and shadow across her body, most prominently on her thighs, being a treat to see and really accentuating her features, I especially love her raised right calf and the stark divide in cool shadows and warm light along the length of it. The difference between each of her shoulders, as well as the spots of sunlight shining onto her breasts are also very eye-catching. The textures throughout this piece are glorious too with the patterns in the marble floor, the shining and engraved steel of her goblet as well as the planes, textures and patterns in her throne and of course the textured and painterly folds throughout the blue and red fabrics in the scene. The scaled texture to her attire too is a great little detail with those lines also accentuating the forms of her body beneath them. I also love the subtle shine to her hair too, it's clearly very dark but there's enough light there to give it a wonderful sense of detail and to really show off the twists and curls in the strands. And her face is just gorgeous! I really like the definition of her nose and the subtle shine to her luscious lips. And zooming in on the image, I just have to reiterate that the sense of texture and the visible, painterly brush-strokes throughout the painting just look fantastic and are something I adore! Again, massive praise to the beautifully contrasting colours, the striking and captivating lighting and the magnificent amounts of detail! You've started off this new year with a truly marvellous painting and I'll be looking forward to getting to see the full resolution versions, excellent work! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

I can't disagree lol

Not exactly different, but more like an "improved version". For the past few drawings I've tried out a few different things and polished some process that I used to do to make them slightly better. The only thing I did slightly different is that all the shadows are controled on top of the image. I usually did shadows on multiple layers and made them "work together" at the end. But for this one I added all the shadows on top of the image, so they are all on the same rules/effects. It's a similar thing that I did way past on the Morning Series of Iris. But only now that I tried to do that on a more complex image. And well .. it worked lol

Lee

thanks! I think this type of lightning adds a lot to the scene =)

Lee

thank you! I really loved the color and overall atmosphere on this one =D

Lee

She’d eat you alive, literally!!!

Matthew Richson

This is so dope! Did you use a different process this time it might be in my head from the skin bumps but this looks almost like it was printed. It a beautiful effect regardless.

Vladimir Duran

I really like the lighting!

I really do love when you get a chance to make pieces that go for a regal tone. You do it really well.
