Hey everyone, it's finished!

Had a great time working on her. I did my best to keep her features from the game artwork and the elegant lines she has on the face.

Also, it was quite challenging to get the color balance of this one right, but I wanted it to be really vibrant and colorfull, just like the game lol. And I wanted to make a "night gown" that resembled her iconic yellow gala dress, but something more simple and intimate.

With those of you familiar with the game, consider this a few nights before the game takes place ;)

Anyway, hope you guys like it!

And don't forget there's a final image still coming this month and we'll have the preview soon(ish)

Personally, I think there's room for both styles in the buildings. There were plenty of modern buildings mixed with some that resembled more art deco. The game itself is more of a futuristic version of art deco. I actually did use those images as reference (since there's really not much skyline views of the city). And as you can see in the 2nd link, there's plenty of square shaped modern buildings. And there's a bit of artistic liberty there, since the game only show 2-3 views of skylines and there's plenty of different buildings on them, so I simply choose the ones that could be painted in a more reasonable time frame. I mean, it's a city, it's going to have hundreds if not thousands of different buildings and not only the few dozen that appear in the game. In this case, it was more important to get the colors, ambience and the general shape of the buildings right instead of being too specific in the details of them. Specially since most of them would disappear in the blurred version anyway.

The only critical objection I have is that the background looks too "modern", in the way that skyscrapers are designed. In the source, Cloudbank has been much more art-deco: square/trapezoid shapes instead of smooth countours, more accentuated roofs and edges, more pronounced lighting contrast instead of bluish-green gradient etc. Some visual references from the game to spot the key points: https://i.imgur.com/DXGe0mA.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wUMACKH.jpg

thank you! It helps a lot to have the "final image" in mind when sketching and building up the image, so you already know what type of lightning and effects will affect it on the final version =D

Love the colors and lighting on this one. The foreground and background seem like they belong together, due to the way you made the city lights reflect off of everything. It's too easy to accidentally make the bacground look like it was painted on a wall in these kind of scenes, but you have no problem pulling it off.

Faxmachinen

thanks! I thought it was a great call for this one =D

Lee

why thank you!

Gosh that dress is impressive! The folds in the fabric in particular.

Amazing piece. I see what you did there with the wine she's drinking :)

thank you! The game has amazing colors, so it was more about being "up to the quality" of it. I really love the character design of her, how she has a firce yet really elegant and delicate features. There was a bit of back and forth on the pose, and I lost the initial "pose" sketch for it, since the light flickered here at home and my no-break decided to ignore it and simply let the pc turn off ... and photoshop didn't cooperate with the recovery file either lol. So this is like version 1.1 of the pose, which I really liked, since it has a very delicate waist touch and fingers running through the balcony rail. And as usual, the glass of wine brings a nice "elegant touch" And I have to say I absolutely adore her hair. I really love how it's wavy and curly at the bottom. The whole theme reminds me a lot of Art Deco.

Thanks! It was really tricky to get it right, and I get to get a lot of references to make sure the folds looked good

Lee

thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

Lee

thanks! Since it wouldn't be really possible to have a "post game" version of it, I thought it would be interesting to explore a few nights before. She's definitely not alone there =D

Lee

thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

Lee

thank you, the game has an amazing color palette!

Lee

thanks! It was 100% based on artworks and those ingame images telling the story =D

Blimey, these colours are absolutely gorgeous! The background is wonderfully vibrant with the gradient from dark blue at the top down to a bright, neon green. I really like the silhouetted paintings of the buildings as well as how the tops of the highest buildings blend into the night sky. The colours on Red herself are gorgeous too with the warm tones of her hair, skin and dress really popping against the cool background. Likewise, the green-tinted lighting used on her contrasts very well with her own colours while also grounding her in the scene, like the bright cityscape is illuminating her. And I just love how well she's painted! Her hair is wonderful with it's sweeping motion to the side of her head and curling around her ear, with little strands breaking off, with a lot of detail to the hair and the green-blue edge-lighting really popping against the dark red. Her face is just beautiful and once again, the green lighting running down the edge of her face and highlighting her upper nose bridge and left cheek look terrific, accentuating her features so well. Her pale blue eyes also look so beautiful, as does the shiny, luscious texture of her lips. What we see of her body is all so nice too, I especially love her right arm with the very strong divide in green light and darker skin tones, the definition of her arm is just so good! I really love where the shadow along the top of her forearm cuts into the light on her upper arm, separating them where it bends. The hand is great as well with those green lights along the fingers, contrasting with and cutting into the shadows. The softer lighting across her chest and breasts looks lovely too with softly blended skin tones and of course her left arm is great too with the green lighting mixed in with rippling shadows and half-tones. (I also like the size of her breasts and their shapes, being allowed to hang naturally since the loose dress isn't pushing them up) And then there's that dress itself, absolutely gorgeous! 😍😍😍 The overlapping, folded sections of cloth that run over her shoulders and breasts and intersect over her stomach are great, same with the rippling folds at the hoop on the "belt" and I like how the folds spread out towards her hip. Then the skirt and rest of the dress cascading down, overlapping each other and rippling just looks fantastic, with the lighting on her hips and legs being very striking with green lighting, orange-gold material and dark shadows all contrasting. Excellent work on this one! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 I adore these vibrant colours, the striking lighting, as well as the night-time scene and the elegant pose and inviting expression of Red herself.

Amazing job on the color. I was a bit sad not to see the big sword in the sketch but I love how the background uses its color palette.

Freaking gorgeous. Out did yourself brother.
