Arsinoe II and Ptolemy I

The second one is Ptolemy I, which I painted before.

Arsinoe II was the daughter of Ptolemy I. After two political marriages, she married her younger brother Ptolemy II and became Queen of Egypt.

To learn more about her life, I recommend "Arsinoe of Egypt and Macedon: A Royal Life" by Elizabeth Donnelly Carney. I read the Japanese translation of the book and found it very interesting.

Thank you for telling me! I referred to the statue of Arsinoe II that was found in the sea. The material and pose are Egyptian style, but the expression of the cloth is Greek and very interesting.

She is quite lovely. By her reign, clothing should have become advanced enough for such lovely robes. I think it's a linen kalasiris. It's interesting how Egypt was ruled by Greeks for so long.
