Doodles and thoughts on recently read novels

I don't usually read novel, but I have recently read two interesting novels.

The first book is Marguerite Yourcenar's "Memoirs of Hadrian". (It is a very famous work:))

I knew the book's title but had never read it, but I was inspired to pick it up because it was in the world history section of the bookstore, not the foreign novel section.

I liked the Hadrian/Antinous relationship, but the character of Arrian of Nicomedia was fascinating! Arrian is my favorite of the ancient Alexander historians whose writings have survived to the present day, but it was refreshing to see him portray a face other than that of a historian. I like that he is a gentlemanly man who is also kind to Antinous. I was happy to see a few of my favorites, Alexander the Great and Hephaestion☺️

The second book is "the Real Life of Julian Butler" (ジュリアン・バトラーの真実の生涯) by Nao Kawamoto. It is a fictional novel in the form of a book about the true life of author Julian Butler as recalled by his lover and co-author, George John.

Julian's last novel is about Alexander the Great and is set in Hephaistion's point of view (actually written by George), but I felt that even the fragmentary descriptions were written with proper research into the material.

It was a very interesting novel and I hope it will be translated into English and read a lot :)

Thanks for reading this far!
