Sparing Pouf and Welfin was not because it would waste his time, but because he has finally figured out what matters in life, human connection and love.

He knew he was dying likely since shortly after he recovered from the explosion and his biggest concern was finding out what was so important to him before he died. And after he found out, it's to spend the final remaining moments of his life with the most important person to him. Since he's dying it's pointless to kill others, he just wants to make the most of what little time he has left.
