Dance around the MAY POLL
Added 2024-05-11 02:53:06 +0000 UTCHow do spring-goers watching the seasons slip away through climate change, we have some wild movies to continue our problematic faves block:
Lost Highway
David Lynch’s odyssey through a cursed and violent Hollywood was inspired in part by the then-recent OJ trial. Steamy neo-noir about a man accused of his wife’s murder intersecting into the story of a young man falling under the sway of a gangster’s moll. A notable critical failure at the time, now celebrated as one of Lynch’s best.
Rosemary’s
Baby Classic boundary-pushing horror from the Bonnie and Clyde era of Hollywood finds a newlywed couple in New York City with a strange circle of friends, and suspicions as to who the father of the titular baby is. Starring Mia Farrow, John Cassavettes (from Mikey and Nicky and Columbo), and Ruth Gordon (Harold and Maude, and also Columbo). If you wanna know why its problematic, well its from the director of Chinatown…
Time Bandits
A big loud romp by Terry Gilliam about a bored suburban kid who ends up tagging along with lackeys of the Supreme Being, who have a stolen map that can take them anywhere in time and space. Having seen this recently its still a hell of a lot of fun even if it does unfortunately feature the disgraced John Cleese and is directed by the reprehensible Gilliam.
