UPDATE: Buttons (instead of Emoji Reactions)

Hi WaifuGamers (✿◡‿◡)

Normally I don't really announce changes across platforms, but this time it is one that every player will notice and may have some questions about.

What's happening?

WaifuGame is now showing Discord Buttons below Encounters, instead of the four iconic emoji reactions (😘, 😍, 🤑, 👊).

Why is this happening?

Showing those four reactions was actually pretty "expensive": instead of the bot sending one message to Discord, those were actually five messages (the message itself, plus one for each emoji reaction). This caused quite some lag and instability.

But I can't see to which Encounters I have reacted now...

The benefit of the Emoji Reactions was that the button turned blue, so you would know that you had already reacted to an Encounter. Unfortunately, this is not a supported feature for Discord Buttons (yet).

I recommend that you turn on @-mentions so you have a visual indication of when you last reacted. (While scrolling through the Encounters: once you start seeing yellow chat lines, you know you've hit the point where you started last time).

But I can't see how popular some Encounters are now...

Yeah, regretfully, this is an unfortunate side effect of the upgrade.

It's giving an error "This interaction failed"

When you've already interacted with an Encounter, that message shows.

(Unfortunately for us, we cannot change what the error text says so the general message from Discord is shown instead.)

It's giving an error "Slow down! You're clicking too fast."

This message is coming from Discord, and it's to prevent spam to both Discord and to WaifuGame.

Can I still use Emoji Reactions instead?

At the moment, yes. However, this option will be removed soon.

So, in conclusion...

From a UI perspective, it's worse, but the changes are necessary to keep the bot running. The changes will really help the communication between WaifuGame and Discord's servers ✌
