Kiri La Kill - Chapter 2

Off near the ‘pristine’ shores of Tokyo Bay, casting its gargantuan shadow above a metropolis which itself towered above most of its kind, was an artificial island that jutted upwards in the shape of a mountain.

A rather impressive show of ‘human’ achievement and ingenuity even when disregarding all that lay within that island, home to a city whose population easily exceeds several thousands, and to top it all off… topped off by a construct whose ingenious design easily surpasses the achievement of the Artificial Mountain Island it was built upon.

It is called Honnouji Academy.

Sprawled atop the Island of Honno City like a crown, it was the beating heart of the island. Not only that, but it was also its central nervous system as well, for it was the Academy that governed the affairs of the island as its de facto government, no matter what the de jure ‘facts’ might try to say.

Of course… We cannot stop this explanation without acknowledging the fact that it is called an ‘Academy’. Fundamentally, a place of learning. For High School students at that! One might find their whole world-view crumbling beneath their feet at this fact, but it was undeniably true.

But of course, those who would try to dismiss it by calling it a mere High School are doing it a massive disservice given the aforementioned context… Given the fact that these students have managed to establish a regime over an entire town of people who, while also learning about skills that would put them through college and the real world after that, would that not prove the quality of that experience?

And make no mistake! It is exactly that experience that placed Honnouji Academy at the top of the food chain in not only nationwide, but worldwide education. With graduates often finding themselves a shoe-in for the grandest universities of the world, who scrambled to pick them up before their fellow institutions could… a stark contrast to what many might experience if they were to go through the regular experience in climbing the ladder in other schools.

All of their accomplishments had, of course, had to be the result of something. Something that the Academy Board, Staff, Students and even their parents, all attribute to the leadership of one Kiryuin Satsuki, and the sponsorship of the school by her mother, Kiryuin Ragyo of REVOCS fame.

If you were to ask the mother and daughter pair?

You would hear them praising the famous Iron Fist of the Kiryuin. That captured success and did not let it go, no matter how much it struggled. Whether that success came in the form of stock price, or enough gold trophies to jumpstart the economy of a nation the size of Russia.

To reiterate.

Honnouji Academy was the pinnacle of education standards, the lifeblood of its community through which it held an iron grip over, had the backing of one of the strongest corporations on the planet, and held a student body that could somehow reliably govern an island full of people despite being teenagers in the midst of puberty.

Safe to say, they had their finger on the pulse.

Almost supernaturally so…

In the deepest and darkest depths of Honnouji Academy, laid the Basement.

The Basement referred to a facility filled to the brim with cutting edge surveillance technology. Heavy-Duty Computers, Sleek and high resolution monitors that were not only connected to cameras placed all around the school, but also military grade sensors that seemed to cover the entirety of Japan… And all of it was covered in enough RGB lighting to light up the room like the dance floor of a rave.

It was staffed entirely by students of the Computer Science Club under the Guidance of the Information and Strategy Committee Chair, whom their club leader reported to … who were always hard at work ensuring manning the digital ramparts of Honnouji Academy.

…And maintaining their K/D ratios in the newest popular game to take the Esports market by the throat, called Two Weeks.

“Sir!” The cracking voice of a pimply boy was heard over the din of the furious clacking of keyboards. “The sensors are reading unusual seismic activity in Sector 12!” So unusual it must have been, that suddenly all activity in the room ceased..

“Sector 12…” A rotund boy wheezed between, looking regretfully at his second monitor, where the momentary lapse of attention had his perfect camping spot discovered by a sweaty tryhard who was going around no-scoping everyone. “Isn’t that place near Mt. Nasu? Is the Volcano going off?”

“No sir!” The boy who’d spoken first said. “Judging by the readings, what the sensors have picked up is a very hard impact, sir!”

Several wheezing gasps sounded through the room.

“An impact?! Like an asteroid?!”

“But the Astronaut Club did not report anything that we should watch out for!”

“Unless they’re hiding something from us, to make us look and get themselves a Two Star Goku Uniform!”

“Those assholes!”

The Rotund Club Leader, sensing the need to take control of the situation before it deteriorated any further… alongside an opportunity to advance his position, sprung to his feet. His belly jiggling heroically as he donned his two star Fedora with flourish as he threw his hands up in the air to gather attention.

“Calm down men!” He blubbered, “For Neither our Great Club, nor Honnouji Academy will falter in the face of this threat.” He rubbed his hands together as he made his plan on the spot. “Just as soon as I get the word to Lady Kiryuin!”

Immediately, a cheer rose, as all of the boys started to support lovestruck flushes!

“As expected of our club leader!”

“Always with a solution!”

“If only he stopped camping all the time, Bastard!”

“Lady Kiryuin will solve everything!”

“No need to make such a fuss.”

A clear and authoritative voice cut through the chatter instantly, and all of the chairs fell silent in an instant… and all eyes turned to stand in the direction of someone who did not belong in the room at all… An ominous presence to be sure.

It was impossible to mistake the three stars stitched expertly into his uniform.

“C-c-c-c-chairman Inumuta!” The Club Leader said, shaking. “I don’t understand!”

“Do not worry, dear Tomura.” Inumuta Hoka said, adjusting his glasses as they gleamed under the light of the RGB. “For Lady Satsuki… already knows.”

And if she knew… it meant she was already handling it, for as everyone knew…

The Clubs might stand above the whole world of the word, but the Student Council, and Lady Satsuki stood above even them.
