I'm back, and more.
Added 2020-03-07 05:16:14 +0000 UTCHello,
So I never officially announced it since I took my break from working on the game, but I wanted to say that I'm back and have been working on Chapter 8 for Koshiro. Right now I am hoping to have something out in a week so look forward to that!
Now I do want to say, Chapter 8 is kind of a bit ambitious for a one-man writer because there are a lot of paths to take. I planned it out this way to increase replayability and also to make your decisions feel more impactful on the story. Because of how Chapter 8 is turning out size and content wise, I have made the decision to release a more linear path for now otherwise I will be working on this one chapter for quite some time (and to be honest I do need to move on to another chapter because of fatigue). Of course I am not ignoring this chapter, I will be working on it from time to time and it will be finished up at a later date. Hopefully though you wont have to wait too long.
Now in regards to the actual release, as I expressed in quite a few past posts and messages, Patreons of the Squire tier is more of a donation tier, thus you will not get a build of the game, so this will be your opportunity to upgrade to Knight or Kingsguard, at which point a download link will be sent through a message once I have finished the build. If you happen to miss this update though, I will be uploading it to itcho in the coming weeks though do note that it will not be free. It will be a minimum of $2, but I do plan to release it for free on that site and here after more patreon updates are released. It may seem like a strange way of doing this but I have noticed that some people have been joining on to get the update and then leaving, meaning they don't get charged as there are no charges up front. That is reserved for monthly charge patreon accounts.
I will be releasing an updated UI build publicly for free. This wont include the newest chapter it's just an update to the current free one.
Before I move on from this though, I would like your thoughts on a monthly charge. While I know that I do not release updates very often, the monthly charge would allow me to commission more art for the game, so you would likely see either a new cg or character art per month. Just a thought though.
Now that all is said and done. Thank you for being patient and I do hope you look forward to this build. For those who are fans of Koshiro, I think you'll really enjoy it a lot!

I would really want to see this story in a linear way for now. You could grey out choices and choose one storyline and progress it. This should be easier for you and would feel like a lot more game was done in the same time frame. A linear game doesn't need to be a bad one

2020-03-13 23:59:27 +0000 UTCI don’t mind monthly payments. Decent art isn’t cheap and the funding has to come from somewhere. You can regulate your updates like some other creators have by word count etc. You could also work out releases ahead of time and take a month off.

2020-03-12 21:10:12 +0000 UTCPersonally, I don't think going to a monthly charge would be too bad since it's not too much imo. However, I think I can say some people are kind of wary with projects now as seen above. So perhaps maybe do some progress reports or teasers once in awhile to show your still working on the game? As long as there's some form of communication I think it will be fine.
2020-03-09 06:47:10 +0000 UTCYep, I was a supporter who stopped pledging with blackgate actually after being burned when I noticed there really wasn’t anything being changed. As it stands though, the main switch to monthly is honestly because I can’t support the game art wise on per release alone simply due to the cost of it which is why there is so few art throughout the game and why there are really only 3 official sprites. I follow a few Patreon accounts myself who do pause there payments though during slower times so that is something I would consider wholeheartedly. Loss of reputation is not something I could afford.

2020-03-08 13:46:17 +0000 UTCI was one of those people who actually turned off my pledge for Blackgate to be honest so I know exactly where you are coming from in regards to that. I hope to not make the same mistake and at least pause during months in which I’m really not going to be active.

2020-03-08 13:40:51 +0000 UTCYes but this will happen after a couple of Patreon updates have passed. I’m looking at likely around 3 or 4.

2020-03-08 13:38:51 +0000 UTCI'm ok with you going to a monthly subscription, though I don't want that to put any undue stress on you.

2020-03-08 00:00:42 +0000 UTCSee also "The Blackgate effect" lol. Unfortunately there is a prevailing number of supporters that have burned by the aforementioned project and can make them leery about supporting one on a monthly basis, the other side of this effect is to see the creators almost killing themselves trying to meet a self imposed deadline thinking any delay is unacceptable. As I said earlier in discord, I'm good with the monthly charge all things considered, this project is definitely one of the best out there at present in my opinion and worth the extra money since it means seeing more content added. Keep in mind too that if for some reason you need to take a break, (busy time during the holidays, writers block, just burnt out and need a break etc.) you have the option to pause the project and not charge people during those times you can't give it your full attention, so no reason to feel like you'd be taking advantage of your supporters in those time.

2020-03-07 20:55:27 +0000 UTCHm, pretty much all my concerns with the monthly update have been addressed by another post from above. But to reiterate: assuming you are open, clear and communicative about your goals and update/progress, I don't see myself having issues with a monthly charge. You can potentially lose a lot of support if you pull what Blackgate did.

2020-03-07 19:54:29 +0000 UTCSo, will the public update see the Koshiro update? Even if it is later on?

2020-03-07 19:00:33 +0000 UTCYeah, that is one thing I would be cautious about myself. Reputation is everything to me and I know I can’t add art to this game on my support alone so ensuring that I am fair to all my supports would be the biggest thing for me, such as pausing monthly payments if it ever looks like I’m not contributing enough.

2020-03-07 15:30:01 +0000 UTCFor Monthly charges I personally would be a bit cautious having been burned by blackgate before. While I like your work and you've so far been pretty communicative with your processes because of your infrequent updates it feels risky that you could charge for x months and then we would never hear from you again. Though I would be fine with more frequent but not as large updates.

2020-03-07 13:39:52 +0000 UTCI would encourage the monthly charges to support you. However, it is better and even reassuring your audience to contact them monthly more. Even a simple update in how your life is going without the project being mentioned serves as a great show of communication between you and us. Personally, I have no problem paying to support monthly, especially because your prices are not too farfetched taking into account your update speed and quality currently. I've been trying to change my subscription to do so anyway, just because I really like how just how your story standouts among those existing. Once you get more time and can relax more, I would then bump it up a bit when you get more backers since you deserve it. Sorry about the other comments. They were rude and self centered.

2020-03-07 11:00:06 +0000 UTCHonestly I don't think switching to a monthly payment would be a bad idea. Its not like we are paying that much already, compared to what other creators charge. I would love to see more artwork to go along with the story. Looking foward to the next build.
