Commonly confused with griffins (a beaked, winged cat), chimeras are creatures who have the face and body of a feline, but also additional, often fantastical traits.
Chimera cubs always look like young jaguars/pumas, with no additional features. However, as they grow into adulthood, their bodies begin to change, taking on attributes from the creatures most featured in their diet such as horns from deer, venom from snakes, gills + scales from fish, tusks from swine, and even wings + plumage from birds.
Although chimeras do not inherit these additional traits directly from the dna of their parents, chimera adolescents often grow to look quite similar to them since they are fed by and taught the same hunting techniques their mother uses. If these traits are successful in feeding them, these chimeras will continue using them, giving the same hunting methods and appearances to their offspring. But if their environment/ resources change and a chimera begins catching other creatures in order to survive, this will affect the chimera's body potentially adding additional features to the ones they grew up with. This incredible ability to adapt makes chimeras one of the most dangerous creatures in the southern magical forests and a common enemy of harpies.
