Character Preview: Marionette

"Monsters created through dark magic that tirelessly serve their master until death. So-called 'Marionettes' are normally safe so long as you aren't trespassing on their master's domain, but woe be unto would-be thieves and uninvited guests. Marionettes attack in numbers and use their high physical strength and massive claws to tear through opponents, making fighting them on their home terrain incredibly difficult. If they manage to digest one of your companions, or even one of their own, that person's body will be transformed into raw magical power and used to boost the Marionettes physical capabilities even further. If conflict is unavoidable, attempt to fight in an area which neutralizes their number advantage and thin them out one by one.

In my travels I have only come upon Marionettes only a few times. In one incident of note, they had been dispatched to eliminate a goblin tribe that was creating trouble in the area. The Marionettes I had encountered up until that point were quite obedient and docile, so I was shocked to see how ravenously they fought. As I was not their target, I was free to enter the battlefield and observe them as they carried out their master's dirty work.

I recall one in particular with a goblin stuck halfway down her throat and two more pinned in her arms, futilely attempting to force her prey down even though her stomach could fit no more. The moment any room appeared in her belly, new prey would take its place, and so on and so forth. After the battle was finished, she returned to her kind's passive attitude, but, from the drool on her lips when she looked at me, I could tell that her master's orders were the only barrier between me and the same fate as those goblins. I wisely made the decision to make my exit."

With this character we'll be welcoming a new artist to the team, Bubble! The Marionette was drawn and designed by them, and I'm looking forward to working with them on more characters in the future!
