Your Money Update #28
Added 2024-07-02 20:43:56 +0000 UTCFirst a bit of a note on my health. Given that my current medication had lost its effectiveness, I attempted to switch to a new medication called Caplyta. It worked fantastic to treat my condition. I was happy, active, engaged, and motivated -- sleeping better with less irritation. However, after about a week of taking it -- a serious side effect developed. My body became unable to regulate its internal temperature. Taking off my sweater made it feel as though I were standing outside on a wintry day, putting it back on felt as though I were sitting in a sauna. I looked up this symptom and found that this condition is caused by a malfunctioning of the hypothalamus in the brain and can sometimes be fatal. The advice in the medication's documentation recommended ceasing its usage as soon as possible. So I was forced to wait out the discomfort until the next day and return to my previous medication, Invega. That makes two attempts to switch off of it that have resulted in extremely deleterious side effects so I believe I am done fucking with my dosages for awhile. I'm just glad I didn't have to go to the ER to avoid hypothermia or heatstroke.
Please remember that in order to provide a full financial picture, these reports are now delayed by one month. The information contained in this post is relevant for the month of June.
In June, I received $782.08 in Patreon subscription donations. Of this, $148.74 was taken up by Patreon's Payment and Platform fees, leaving me with $633.70.
The cable bill skyrocketed to a ridiculous $260.43 after the promotional period ended. The moment I became aware of how outrageously high the bill had become, I attempted to call them immediately to cancel and receive a pro-rate, but Spectrum compassionately informed me that they stopped pro-ration in 2019, and if I did cancel, not only would they terminate my services immediately, but I would have to pay the full amount of the bill. Thanks to Republican lawmakers in Kentucky this is not considered an unfair or unreasonable practice. I will have more information on this in August.
$173.00 of your Patreon subscription fees went to pay down credit cards which I have managed poorly, although some of the increase may have been due to lack of funds thanks to Spectrum's competitive, efficient and understandable desire to charge large amounts of money for essentially nothing. I don't really know what to do about these except continue to grow my income, but that has been difficult lately because several large game releases (Erdtree in particular) have caused users to lose interest in Skyrim for a bit.
$200.27, the remaining amount of your Patreon subscription fees, went toward my electric bill which is essential for both my work and recreation. It did not cover the full amount and after blowing up at my roommates enough times that they have stopped fucking with the thermostat, I expect this amount to go down soon, given that I am on levelized billing (the cost of six months is averaged based on the total cost of the previous six months).
I suppose that's all I have to say for now. Times will only become more difficult but all we can do is press forward.
