Good Omens SEASON 2 FINALE

I can't believe we're already done with this show. This finale was amazing (even if I was sad and disappointed in the moment) and I am so glad to have watching this series. Thank you everyone for following me and the support, this was amazing!

Good Omens SEASON 2 FINALE

Comments

Yeah, Terry Pratchett left Neil Gaiman a letter, only to be read after he had died. In it he told Neil to not give up and to get the show made. Neil made S1 to fulfil that obligation, and as a tribute to Terry. At the premier Pratchett's hat, scarf, and a box of popcorn was on the seat next to Neil, as they had been going to watch it together. About The Metatron, I meant that, apart from Aziraphale, he was the only character from heaven in the original book. The other angels played a role in the sequel, so Gaiman wrote them into the show to connect both stories further.

It would never have been a romance, that's for sure. Especially in the '90's. They would have been fantastic, but not as much as what we got

Vic

That's really cool. I heard that it had to be stoppped cause Pratchett died, but that makes sense as well. The way they put up season 1, I can believe that it was their intention to write romances, and they did it so well. So the Metatron wasn't in book 1? Wasn't sure what you talked about there. This is really interesting

Vic

Sorry for writing a book, but I wanted to leave you with a bit of trivia. We almost got a Good Omens movie adaptation in the '90's starring Johnny Depp as Crowley and Robin Williams as Aziraphale. As interesting as that would have been, I'm very happy it didn't happen since it means we wouldn't have the show now. No way would it have been a romance back then! Any gayness would have been played for laughs too I bet. Bullet dodged!

Gaiman & Pratchett worked on the idea of a sequel but never got around to writing it. Gaiman said they finalised the ending in 2006. I think most of us book fans are still hoping it includes Crowley & Aziraphale sharing a cottage in the South Downs, which was first mentioned in the 90's, but we'll have to wait and see. S2 was written to set the stage for the sequel, getting everything where it needs to be to pick up the story. Gabriel and the angels were included in S1 to link it to the sequel, in which they featured. Only The Metatron appeared in the book. Regardless of what their original intention for Crowley & Aziraphale was, it obviously evolved with time. I've seen a few comments saying that Pratchett wouldn't approve of what Gaiman has done with their characters, which is rubbish. He may not have written romantic relationships often, but when he did it was quiet and gentle and very real. He's also had queer characters in his books, so that's not an issue. Besides, Gaiman only pursued getting the show made as a promise to Pratchett, so I can't see him going against his friends wishes.

I didn't even think about the fact that this season was a love story, I'm reevaluating my entire view of this season haha. You are absolutely right when you say that plot wise it seems less developed, but when you think of it in a romance, it just makes more sense. This season was great, and I'm glad you liked my reaction. Thanks for following me :)

Vic

I didn't even know that was a thing. I don't think that was a thing in Canada...? but don't take my word for it. I like that he wrote their love story though

Vic

Splitting my comment because I stupidly still can't figure out paragraphs here on my tablet. Did Gaiman & Pratchett originally intend them to be together? Maybe, maybe not. At that time Section 28 was in effect in Great Britain, an aspect of which outlawed the publishing of material 'promoting homsexuality'. In the book they are mistaken as a couple a number of times, and Aziraphale is very heavily implied to appear extremely gay, but nothing is ever said concretely. In the book they are just part of an ensemble cast, in a story that doesn't lend itself to romance. Since Gaiman wrote the show with them as the leads, he needed to write extra material for them. He decided to write it as a love story and explore their relationship more.

Just finished watching, loved your reaction! I've actually seen so many people prefer season 2, myself included. S1 was fantastic, but as it was an adaptation there was always going to be things left out of, or done better, in the book. S2 got to just be its own thing, a small and personal story, and was therefore allowed to breath more. Neil Gaiman has said that this season was "quiet and gentle and romantic." I think the biggest problem for people has been that they don't realise they are actually watching a romance. Crowley and Aziraphale's relationship is the real core and plot of S2, with every flashback, side character, and relationship existing to frame, inform, and run parallel to their story. Not viewing it like that can lead to some things, such as the flashbacks, being seen as pointless or just a distraction from the perceived main plot of the Gabriel mystery. Of course, this isn't made painfully clear until the final episode.

thank you for the advice, I didn't even think of that AT ALL. I'll change it for youtube pronto

Vic

I haven't watched your reaction yet, but just wanted to ask you not to upload to YouTube with the kiss in the thumbnail please. So many people still haven't finished (or even got to start) the show yet, and I've sadly seen people being spoiled even when trying so hard to avoid seeing anything. It's the stupid algorithms throwing it in people faces. If you could use a different photo it would save ruining it for anybody, and those who have already seen it know what's coming anyway. Thanks! :)
