Die Hard

This movie was so much fun! So much more intense than I thought it was going to be, but I loved it! Thank you to everyone that voted, regardless if your movie won or not!

Meals in a single container with different compartments still exist, for microwaves in plastic. But back in the day when they were first made, they were in aluminum, with a foil top. Also, they were often associated with a casual meal eaten on a tray while watching TV instead of at a dinner table, and got the name TV Dinners. I think even at this time it was a slightly dated reference though.

FYI: When the reporter referenced the "INS", that is an abbrieviation for the Immigration and Naturalization Services. So the reporter was suggesting that he could get the McClane house's domestic assistant deported.

It's strange seeing a version of Bruce Willis that is younger than me. He's always just been a badass old man to me, but rewatching this movie at my current age and it feels like I'm seeing a completely different person than what I remember. The last time I saw this movie I was a kid, and the only thing I remembered was Hans falling out the 30th floor and the parts where John has to walk through glass and then tend to his bloodied feet. The latter is the reason why I never went back to see this movie a second time until now. Glad you liked this classic Christmas movie. :)

That's why people say recon!! Makes more sense! Thanks for the explanation!

Vic

Yeah I thought they were a little too dumb, especially for the FBI, I mean come on, you're supposed to be trained in this! Love Alan Rickman indeed.

I was pretty sure that the German was bad, because it usually is haha. I'm glad someone else watched Lost, that makes a lot more sense, thank you for explaining! I was wondering if it was a movie fail or a me knowledge fail haha. I'm glad at least 2-3 are as good, very eager to watch them then!

1:15:20 "Reconnoitre" is an Anglicisation of "reconnaître", as in to observe (in a military context) - the verb form of reconnaissance. Sometimes abbreviated "recce" or "recon" in English.

Definitely a classic Christmas movie :) The incompetent authority figures trope goes a bit far, the cops, the emergency call operator, the FBI - a little too unbelievingly dumb. Alan Rickman was a treasure, best voice ever

Told you its a Christmas movie 😁 Thank you for this great reaction! And no, the villains didn't speak German that well. Instead, this movie is quite famous in Germany for how broken the supposedly native Germans speak German. The actors didn't knew German at all and were trained with just a few phrases. The reason the dynamite in Lost, that killed "Arzt" (btw: german for doctor), should have been handled more careful than he actually did, is it consists of Nitroglycerine that is "mixed" with a stabilizing component. Very old dynamite like in Lost can "sweat" out the pure Nitroglycerine and as Nitroglycerine likes to detonate after only a little bit of shaking, it should be handled with very special care. Modern explosives use very different compounds which work very diferently and are not as dangerous as pure Nitroglycerine under normal circumstances. Die Hard 2 and 3 are also very good and almost as good as the first one.

It’s presumptuous, I realize, but I’ll take this moment to lobby for reactions to Bruce’s TV series “Moonlighting” which is a hilarious and innovative series from the 80’s. After Buffy/Angel of course.
