2024-09-23 20:03:15 +0000 UTCOnly thing I remembered about this movie is SMG saying "I want to fuck" at the end. Nice finally having the context to that memory. As for the pacing, that was normal for most movie romances, at least those before 2010. People simply accepted it.

Yes its fast paced, but I think making it longer wouldn't add anything meaningful to the movie that you don't know already. Yes, you could take a bit more time to build the relationship between Anette and Sebastian but then you would need to build up a few of the other characters too. In the end, I think, the movie is intentionally very shallow ... and so are its characters. The movie is wrong on so many levels but its target group is (was) 90ies teens and tried to teach them (hopefully) that love is everything and ... ah c'mon do I sound like a love-sick Sebastian now? Ok, ok. Anyway, this movie is fun to watch, has a killer soundtrack and an amazing stacked cast. Besides our loved Buffy star (in a more ... sultry role) we have a young Reese Witherspoon who starred with her then-boyfriend Ryan Phillipe. The two were getting married later and they have two kids together (however, they are divorced now). Also, the fantastic Selma Blair as Celene got a (shared) MTV move award for her kiss with Sarah Michelle Gellar which spawned a lot of buzz and some parodies . The two are best friends in real life even today and re-enacted their kiss on stage in 2020. It was hugely influential to say the least.
