Buffy 4x19

THIS WAS GREAT! I did not expect Oz to come back, AT ALL. I loved it though, cannot wait for the finale. Also I'm back! Yay! Gonna post more often now that school's on a break!

Maybe not as popular as Buffy, but the original Charmed was one of the big ones back then, and had almost as much of a cultural impact. I wish more people would react to it. So if you need anything to replace Buffy with, that's a good one. Charmed even had a reboot a few years ago, but the production of the reboot was such a mess, it felt like they had no direction. In trying to fix the problems of the previous season, every new season felt like a new show following the same characters. It lasted 4 seasons before everyone finally gave up on it, and it lasted that many seasons only because of how popular the original Charmed was. There's also Stargate SG-1, but that's Sci-Fi and I don't know how you feel about that, but Sci-Fi and Fantasy shows are almost interchangeable in the types of plots and tropes you get even though the aesthetics and action are very different.

How it went in the US, was the New York Daily News referred to this as a landmark in TV history because of the implied kiss between Willow and Tara at the end.

At 40:50 This is a reference to author William S. Burroughs who in 1951 shot his wife Joan Vollmer in the head in a drunken attempt to recreate the famed act of William Tell. Tell, as legend says, was an excellent marksman and split an apple in half that was sitting on top of his son's head with a crossbow.

I think there are 2 groups of people: one is the Buffy fans who love Buffy and watch other people react to it and the other one is people who use the term woke seriously. I don’t think those 2 groups have a lot of overlap. Buffy at its time was really progressive. Many tropes of today weren’t tropes yet, hell, even having a strong female lead with so many female main cast members was in itself still new and progressive. And the audience loved it for exactly that reason Its funny that you mentioned this, but up until Willows and Taras relationship, ALL gay relationships in US TV happened in a SPECIAL episode where a gay character happened who was just gay and was gone 2 episodes later (at the latest). Joss Whedon tells the story to specifically NOT to fulfil this trope and planned it exactly like this. Remember vampire Willow from the episode „Doppelgangland“ in season 3? She was clearly bi and real Willow even mentions that she is „kinda gay“. Of course, its tragic that Oz (as the most perfect boyfriend that ever happened) had to go for this but showing a stable gay relationship with normal people is one of the many reasons people adore Buffy to this day.
