He might get unemployment, however, it is not unheard of for a person over 40 to have a nest egg I could live for 6 months just off of savings if I lost my job today. Giles had two jobs( The Watcher's counsel fired him in Helpless 1999) and no wife and kids so he might have a huge savings account. Now let’s assume vamps, in addition to being long-lived, are also playing the long game when it comes to investing. Now a slayer comes along, kills said vamp. Is the watcher just going to ignore all that bloody capital lying around? Of course not. You send it the watcher council and use it to fund more anti vamp stuff.

This is a paraphrase from the song "We're Off to See the Wizard" from The Wizard of Oz (1939). Spike says to Adam: "You're like Tony Robbins, if he was a big, scary, Frankenstein-looking - you're exactly like Tony Robbins". Tony Robbins (b.1960) is an American author, coach and speaker. He is known for his infomercials, seminars, and self-help books, including the books "Unlimited Power" and "Awaken the Giant Within". He has worked on an individual basis with Bill Clinton, Hugh Jackman, and Pitbull. Buffy says: "What kind of family are you, the Corleones?". The Corleones, an Italian Mafia family, are the main characters in the infamous The Godfather Trilogy (beginning from 1972). The title refers to Yoko Ono, blamed by many for The Beatles' break up. Spike acts as the "Yoko factor", sowing dissension within the Scooby Gang. Also, when Spike asks Adam if he has ever listened to The Beatles, and Adam answers that he likes Helter Skelter. Spike remarks that he is not surprised, which is probably a reference to Charles Manson and his murders (Manson believed that the Beatles had hidden messages directed at him, and named his killing spree Helter Skelter).

Furter in one of "The Rocky Horror Show" theatre shows in the early 90ies. James Marsters (Spike) is/was the lead singer of several rock bands and has also reeleased some solo songs and at least 2 albums. And whoever decided that Xander should wear this abomination of a sweater with the big blue circle (in 4x20, f.i. at 46:39) ... they must REALLY hate him. Poor man.
