Story line: Mare Sheehan is a detective in her small home town, where she knows everyone, and everyone knows her. Emotionally reticent, she has had her marriage split apart by a recent tragedy and is unable to even talk about the incident, much less put it behind her. Now, her inability to solve the disappearance of a young opioid addict who has been missing for a year has put her professional reputation in jeopardy as well. The community is already on edge, so when a young girl is found murdered outside town, the pressure on Mare increases exponentially. Adding to her stress are the complicated interactions within her broken family, her initially tense partnership with outsider DETECTIVE COLIN ZABEL, who has been brought in to assist on the case, and her fledgling romance with visiting professor RICHARD RYAN, a once-eminent novelist on the skids. However, as Mare may soon realize, her real problems may be just beginning...
