(early 20s) Samantha is an American expat living in late 90s Tokyo. Having lived many lives before we meet her, she's mature for her
age, but while being so, she doesn't lose her youthful charm and appeal. Samantha deftly navigates the world of Japanese hostess
culture and all that it entails with an impressive understanding of how to manipulate people and situations to suit her needs and interests
- a promising businesswoman. She is so adept at playing different "roles" for the clients and the management that you never really
know who she is. She keeps Jake and everyone else continually on their toes, all while struggling to navigate a city she can never truly
be a part of. SERIES REGULAR. NEEDS TO MEMORIZE SOME JAPANESE DIALOGUE.

[SATO]
Cast: Mackenyu (In talks)
(Male; middle to late 20s; Japanese) A young, sexy junior member of a yakuza faction. On the surface, hes all swagger Yakuza tattoos
and a Japanese James Dean attitude. Hes obsessed with and deeply knowledgeable about Western music and pop-culture. On a dime,
he can switch from boyish charm to brutal violence not because hes a sociopath, but because hes so deeply rooted in both worlds. Hes
the one in our series who mentors Jake how to maneuver the streets of Kabukicho. SERIES REGULAR. MUST BE MODERATELY
FLUENT (not conversational) IN ENGLISH AND FLUENT IN JAPANESE.

[Polina]
Series Regular F 18-23 Eastern European Cast: TBD
(Choices)
(late teens-early 20s) Eastern European and speaks with an accent. Polina works as a hostess at the same club as Samantha. She
came to Tokyo to work as a model and slowly got pulled into its underbelly. Bright, funny, and gorgeous, her quick mind, easy manner,
and stunning looks would seem to make her an ideal candidate for the job, but she can't hide her youth, easily getting bored and often
irritating the gentlemen at the club. Samantha takes her under her wing, forming a bond between the two women. SERIES REGULAR.
MUST BE FLUENT IN ENGLISH. NEEDS TO MEMORIZE SOME JAPANESE DIALOGUE.

[LUNA]
(Female; 20s; Japanese) One of the two best hostesses at Club Onyx (along with Samantha), Luna is smart, beautiful and poised, with
enough self-awareness and wry humor that shes able to navigates the hostess world with aplomb. She comes from a "good family" and
recently graduated from Tokyo University. Her humor and kindness mask a will of steel. Lula has a long-term plan: shes doing this to
save money so she can leave the world of hostessing behind. Unlike Sam and many of the other girls at Club Onyx, she has a sense of
the big picture: this is a young persons game; get out while the getting is good. RECURRING. MUST BE FLUENT (not conversational)
IN BOTH JAPANESE AND ENGLISH.

[Popeye]
Male, street thug, muscular build, deep scar over one eyelid, always smoking, missing a finger on one hand, speaks Japanese, wants
Jake to stop looking into his boss and father-figure, Tadamasa, threatens to kill him if he doesnt

Male, Japanese, tall by Japanese standards, wavy hair, muscular build, looks like hes straight out of a fashion magazine, works as a
journalist with Jake the Yomiuri Shimbun, speaks Japanese

[Frenchie]
Male, short, compact, wire-rimmed glasses, wears three-piece suits, works as a journalist with Jake at the Yomiuri Shimbun, speaks Japanese

[Mari Maruyama]
Female, mid 20s, in charge of training new journalists at the Yomiuri Shimbun, no-sense attitude, speaks Japanese, when she speaks
English its with an English accent, butts heads with

[Emi]
(Female; late 20s-early 30s; Japanese) A sub-cap at the Mei Cho Shimbun, shes Jakes immediate supervisor. Sharp-witted, tightly
wound, and no-nonsense, she speaks flawless English with a cut-glass British accent. Through the season we watch Emi navigate
doing her job in the sexist backdrop of the late-90s Tokyo newspaper and cop culture. She keeps her Korean ancestry hidden. Emi lives
a quiet, rather lonely life, which is at odds with her commanding presence at work. Shes a terrific reporter; as she and Jake slowly
become allies, shes the one who teaches him how to be a real investigative journalist. SERIES REGULAR. MUST BE FLUENT
JAPANESE AND HAVE PERFECT ENGLISH; PREFERABLY CAN DO A BRITISH DIALECT.

[Tin Tin]
(Male; 20s; Japanese) A new hire who joins the Mei Cho Shimbun on the same day as Jake. Jake nicknames Tin-Tin as they riff on
favorite cartoons. Tin-Tin is intellectual, literary, buttoned-down and serious. Trendy and Tin Tin are Jakes buddies and sidekicks,
constantly bantering with him in English and Japanese. As the season progresses, they are pulled into Jake and Emis investigations.
FRACTIONAL SERIES REGULAR. MUST BE MODERATELY FLUENT (not conversational) IN ENGLISH AND FLUENT IN
JAPANESE.

[Trendy]
(Male; 20s; Japanese) A new hire who joins the Mei Cho Shimbun on the same day as Jake. Jake nicknames Trendy. He gets his
sobriquet because hes sexy, like a character out of the "Trendy" genre of Tokyo teen soap operas that were all the rage in the late 90s.
Trendy is devil-may-care; something of a hustler. Trendy and Tin Tin are Jakes buddies and sidekicks, constantly bantering with him in
English and Japanese. As the season progresses, they are pulled into Jake and Emis investigations. FRACTIONAL SERIES
REGULAR. MUST BE MODERATELY FLUENT OR CONVERSATIONAL IN ENGLISH AND FLUENT IN JAPANESE.
