GREETINGS AND SALUTATIONS, MALCONTENTS.
As always, sorry for the long periods of radio silence. I'm repeating myself, but I just really struggle to think of anything worth updating you all on when nothing's really changed...
But something has changed, and so, while a good chunk of you have probably already heard this in my Discord server, this is the official announcement:
I’m adapting the entire mod series, both the ones that you already know and tolerate, and the ones that never saw daylight into a series of self-published kindle-y ebooks, or whatever the proper term is. Back in my day we read text on paper, but you whippersnappers don't even know what paper is.
This isn’t just a rewrite. It’s a full adaptation, structured to work as fiction on its own terms. That means no engine limitations, no gameplay padding, and no trying to pretend that I have any business trying to script anything.
I get to work in a medium I'm actually good at, and make the post-apocalyptic western neo-noir I always wanted to, free from all the burdens that came with modding a decade-plus-old-game whose IP belongs to a pyramid of corporations.
The working series title is The Sunset Frontier. I may change it. I've only come up with one-and-a-half titles I actually like for my mods, but at least this isn't a bland placeholder title that ends up getting finalized because I never thought of anything better. (Why yes, Depths of Depravity, I am talking about you.)
...And just because apparently it must be said, no, there's no AI-generated bullshit, and there never will be.
The first release will be based on Headhunting, which was always the earliest mod anyone could reasonably start, and generally first in the series chronologically overall. From there, the plan is:
The Initiation
The North Road
Eliza (Which will finally get a better title.)
Depths of Depravity
The High Desert
...and then I’ll move on to the unreleased mods that many of you have been very clear about wanting to see finished. Locked within the confines of the future-mod-spoiler-zone no longer, bay-beeee!
This isn’t a line-by-line conversion. Some content worked fine as a game mod, but would be a waste of time in prose. So while certain things, like Grambus, Blind Henry, or Ophelia's magical windmill fetch quest won’t appear exactly as they did... That doesn’t mean they’re gone entirely. Some may still show up, in ways you may not expect.

One of the biggest advantages here is the opportunity to fix the broken or undercooked elements:
Eliza (the character) won’t be the grating mess she once was.
The Initiation won’t be a tedious, barely-functional horde-massacre slog.
Todd will finally get to say more than a dozen lines.
Rivas will speak like an actual human being, not a bad impression of a bad impression.
And more!
Characters like Charlie, Joe Tully, Cap’n Lizzy, and DASH KILLBLOOD (ultimate badass) will get more content and integration than they ever had in the mods. Ever wanted to see a direct conversation between Todd and Charlie? Now you can!
I’m currently between halfway and two-thirds done with the Headhunting adaptation. This is moving steadily, but it’s getting the attention it deserves.
And yes, I still intend to finish the standalone Boomer companion as soon as I'm able. But with my real-life workload being what it is, I can’t juggle that many balls at once.
I can only fit a finite amount of balls in my life, and when we're at full balls capacity, then that means I need to pick and choose which balls I want to continue to handle, and reserve some of those balls for later, once I'm done with the current crop of balls. (This is a very clever paragraph with a very subtle play-on-words motif, you see.)

More than anything, this gives me a chance to finally close the book on long-dangling arcs. That means that Senator Burke, Sheridan, Ava, Isaiah Darby, and Caleb Alquist are all going to get a proper ending. No more ambiguity, no more bland explanations in the future-mod-spoiler-zone. Proper narrative closure, at last.
Thank you for asking, hypothetical gigachad of boundless generosity, intelligence, and charisma, and may I just say that you look exceptionally virile today?
I cannot stress enough my gratitude to those of you who've financially supported me up until now, and that goes double for those of you who continue to do so. So for financial backers, I'm going to post sporadic excerpts from the books as I write them, and only you, the highest class of people, will get early access to them... And if I can figure out how to set up a private channel for backers only in my Discord, I'll do that too.
But either way, whether you're a financial supporter, or a regular mod enjoyer, or just some paper-skinned sellout whose soul is now property of Chosen™ in perpetuity, you can enjoy the upcoming adaptations when they release. Unless you can't tolerate fictional violence and/or profanity, in which case, how did you even get here?
Thanks for sticking around so long, malcontent brethren.
