Idk if your religious or not but if you want a funny movie you should check out DOGMA it’s not making fun of religion just using it for the purpose of the movie but it has jay and silent bob matt Damon Ben afflek salma Hayek Chris rock and not least of all professor snape himself Alan Rickman it’s such a hilarious movie with some actually powerful emotional scenes especially the train scene definitely give it a look it’s Kevin smiths best work

You guys should totally watch the Golden Child, that's an awesome Eddie Murphy movie.

Arsenio was taking viewers away from Johnny Carson which is one of many reasons why NBC wanted to get a new host. After Leno took over and Letterman went to CBS, Arsenio’s ratings started to fall.

As an 80's teen, I will verify that Eddie Murphy was huge to a degree that most folks today might find hard to believe. Everyone knew and quoted jokes from his stand-up special on HBO, Delerious. Even though I didn't have cable I pretty much heard all the best ones before I ever saw it for myself at a friend's house. It was so popular that his next stand-up comedy film, Raw, actually got a wide theatrical release just a year before this film. The Arsenio Hall Show did have it's share of hip-hop, but my favorite musical memory from that show was when he had The Eurythmics on doing an acoustic set. Just Annie, Dave, and an acoustic guitar. It was so cool that it just baffles me why they never did one of those MTV Unplugged shows.

Summer of 1988 this came out. Other movies released that summer were “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” and “Big”, among others. Eddie Murphy at this time was to movies what Michael Jackson was to music. It’s hard to describe if you weren’t there to experience it, but try to imagine Will Smith pre-Chris Rock slap and adding 1,000. Eddie was that big in the 1980s. Then, when “Party All The Time” came out and actually was a great record, we flipped out. Arsenio Hall’s late-night show was hugely popular, too. He was one of the first shows to have hip-hop and rap stars on it. I was in high school back then and we loved his show. There were rumors that he was dating Paula Abdul at the time and she did the choreography on this film. James Earl Jones the voice of Darth Vader. Iconic. Such a great actor, too. Madge Sinclair was on a TV show at the time called “Trapper John, MD” which was like “Grey’s Anatomy” only it was actually a good show. 🤪 The “Trading Places” cameo was hilarious. Loved it.

Excited to watch this with DH, one of our favorite movies!

Gotta love Eddie. Can't wait for Beverly Hills Cop 4 to be released.

Now THAT was a fun ride, fam! Good choice … hit the spot.

Rollo Tomassi

yeah they've both seen Shrek i think because they've heard the original "I'm a Believer" on their music channel and recognized it as the song from Shrek

The father was John Amos! TV’s greatest Dad! He played James on Good Times. Good catch on the Trading Places reference! This is a GREAT MOVIE! Great reaction!!

Leonard

The end credits there shows all the characters they played. Love this movie, by the way. Glad you chose it!

I'm surprised with Jay being on point about animation voice casting that he failed to call out Eddie Murphy as Donkey in the Shrek films. Surely he's seen Shrek, right? If not... gotta fix that. The African vocal music at the start is by South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mombazo, which might be worthy of some music channel reaction some time. They're dope, and have a couple of their albums myself. I had a co-worker with some of the most awesome t-shirts, and one of the coolest he had was his Soul Glo shirt. Had me singing the jingle from the ad all day. Which is something no old white dude has any business doing. Speaking of whole movies about a barbershop... if you've not seen the movie Barbershop, you should certainly consider it. It's a favorite of mine. Also, as long as I'm throwing out recommendations, one Eddie Murphy gem co-starring Steve Martin worth your time is Bowfinger.

Robert Greffey

I LOVE YALL.... I REALLY DO! Yall just here soaking all this up the right way & making my day!

Do you realize the characters in the barbershop are Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall?

Thomas Horton

You have to do more Jackie Wilson? One of his songs is in the movie

you've definitely been remembering your movies well im proud of you I know of another Eddie Murphy movie you might've already seen (and of course how could you NOT have already?)... the Haunted Mansion I saw on your family channel you visited Disney World so if you didn't watch the movie prior to that, I'm shocked lol Speaking of James Earl Jones and Field of Dreams, you need to put The Sandlot on your "must watch" list he plays a sweet character, even though he's only in the movie for like close to 10 minutes, a real memorable person Looking forward to Harry Potter 6! Keep in mind that the seventh book got split into two parts, so I hope you watch back-to-back instead of on the usual week-to-week basis Until then... good night

Karl Kraus

So funny you haven't seen it . John Amos played Lisa's father . Ha Ha . The great James Earl Jones ( Darth Vader voice) Such a good classic. Eddie Murphy played the guys in the barber shop and the Sexual Chocolate. Yes that was Randolph and Mortamer brothers of Trading Places. You are really catching on to the references, Trading Places was Eddie Murphy's first movies ever made. Loved the part about tying shoes are over rated. The man in the barber chair in the first scene was a very young Cuba Gooding Jr. ( Jerry McGuire.Semi was Eddy's companion or guard his servant.

Lisa Rhodes

OH HELL YES! I haven't pressed play yet but I'm gon stop everything I'm doing for this!
