“Seabiscuit” 2003 true story about an undersized, underdog race horse back in the depression era……GREAT movie!

John

I would second Eddie and the Cruisers, but you would need to have already purchased it to watch it with them. It's not available to purchase or rent except on DVD right now.

Excellent list, Jennifer!

Thank you! One of my top shelf movies checked off. Christopher Guest co-wrote this with Rob Reiner, and he has a number of other mockumentaries. Others have mentioned Best of Show and an few other movies. You two enjoy Best of Show, all about dogs, and also has some new cats members, like Catherine O'Hara who played the mother in Beetlejuice. She also plays Sally in Nightmare Before Christmas (which is a must Halloween watch if you haven't already seen it). The three main musicians also co-wrote all the music and lyrics (and played the instruments). Quite a talented group of people. I'm not sure how it escaped me, but it wasn't until recently that I realized Christopher Guest also played the six fingered man in Princess Bride.

Mckean also plays in Airheads with Friaser, Buscemi and Sandler. You will love that movie.

This movie is iconic among musicians to the point where it's almost required viewing. I'm surprised at just how common it seems to be for bands to get lost on the way to the stage, for instance. Just about any big touring musician seems to be able to relate. But even as a dive bar troubadour like myself, people will often make reference to the movie, so you gotta be in on the joke. So now Jay has some homework, and that's to learn the bass line to “Big Bottom”. I was at a jam party once where I was one of three dudes to show up with a bass guitar. So what do you play with three bass players? One of Spinal Tap's finest, that's what. Always fun to see more than one bass on a stage, but Spinal Tap had to go extra (or take it to 11, if you prefer) and give us three in the deep end. The solo at the end of “Heavy Duty” that Amber recognized is a pretty common pop classical piece of chamber music by Luigi Boccherini called String Quintet in E major, Op. 11, No. 5. Chances are you've heard it in other movies or TV shows where a swanky party or wedding may have a string ensemble playing. I know I have. Christopher Guest plays Nigel, and you have seen him on the channel once or twice before. He has also since gone on to direct other mockumentary comedy films of his own. The most popular may be “Best in Show”, about folks participating in a dog show. As much as I love dogs, I'm a sucker for music, so my personal favorite is “A Mighty Wind” about organizing folk music tribute. It also features a Spinal Tap reunion, of sorts. Guest, McKean and Shearer appear as one of the featured bands called The Folksman. Both are worthy of a watch here on the channel if you're looking for more mockumentary mayhem.

I second “Rockstar” and “Detroit Rock City”

Do Rock STAR, Detroit Rock City- ( Kiss -Jay) then there is Air Heads - Fraser, Sandler, and Buscemi. all wonderful movies. His wife was portraying what Yoko Ono did with the Beatles . When you hear the reference " Ok Yoko " it means Yoko Ono Broke up the Beatles when she got involved with John Lennon. The lady who is on the front picture dark hair is Fran Drescher she played the Nanny , she was also in Saturday Night Fever.

The style is called “Mockumentary” which satirizes its subject…so yes Jordan, it’s meant to be funny 👍🏼. One of my favorite mockumentaries is “Best In Show” (it satirizes dog shows and the people who enter them). The cast is great (includes Nigel from this movie), and most of the dialogue was improvised, definitely check it out. There’s also “What We Do In The Shadows”, which satirizes vampires.
