New Poll!

Ok time to narrow down! You will have 3 votes on this poll and then we will go from there. The 10 highest voted on films will move on to the next round. All suggested movies were from you guys on a recent post.

Also, The final Star Wars and The Hobbit are not on this poll because those films are scheduled to be viewed soon.

Happy Voting!

Don't forget to pick 3 this time instead of 1.

Comments

I agree. Some like it Hot and Mr Holland's Opus are delightful. Also for a musical, Paint your Wagon with Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin.

Patricia Mabry

You should watch Mr. Holland's Opus. You 2 would love this movie, since your teachers. It's one of my most favorite movies of all time.

DANIEL LONEWOLF

Some like it hot is still ranked as one of the best comedies ever. I think a lot of younger folks just never heard of it since it's from 1959, but the film is a comedic masterpiece. Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis are all great in this. I know it won't win the top 10 because I think most haven't heard of it or seen it, but it is a must see film for sure.

Ryan Towell

How about a "vintage" classic movie musical? There's a reason productions are still mounted of them today. They are good fun! Something like Gypsy, Singing in the Rain, or Cabaret?

Leesa

I can't believe Spaceballs edged out Fifth Element. I'm not sure Fifth Element will ever win the poll. It's not as popular/mainstream as other space adventures, but it's a good movie. It has some great storytelling and visuals, and overall fun. J&A won't come away disappointed.

Kristin D

My Halloween Picks: Sleepy Hollow Frankenstein Young Frankenstein

Kristin D

Stand and Deliver Billy Madison

Kristin D

Maybe next you could do a back to school poll and put movies about teachers/school themed movies on it. I'd recommend: *Kindergarten Cop(if not chosen in this poll) *Mr. Holland's Opus. *Lean On Me. *Dangerous Minds. *Coach Carter. *Matilda. *Sky High. *Dead Poets Society. *Clueless. *The Perks Of Being A Wallflower

Katie Jackson

Awesome thanks

Donna raney

Hated the first dune..looking forward to the new version

Donna raney

Good list. The others, arsenic & old lace is a classic, coal miners daughter, and for sure the birds!!!

Donna raney

Once your selection is blue it has counted your vote. It will still allow you to change your vote if you choose. On larger polls you will get 3 votes and on smaller polls it’s normally just 1

Jordan Robinson

Omy word the birds! Crazy good

Donna raney

Hi everyone. New to this group. When voting for movies. I can select the votes I want but I see no submit button?

Donna raney

If you are interested in classics "Gone With The Wind" - Jimmy Cagney in "Public Enemy" Hitchcock's "The Birds"

Toby Smith

Good poll. Most, if not all of these movies are must watches. They're all important parts of American culture and referenced a lot in everyday conversation. Well done.

Al Batista

As Good As It Gets was on earlier polls, Jack, Helen, Cuba, Greg= oscar winning movie; not on list🥲🤔

Deborah Lewis

with 390 suggestions how were these movies picked ? Some I know didn't have that many suggestions . But I don't know how your picking works and two most don't have a chance thrown in with a mix match like this . Some Like it Hot a 1959 movie with Marilyn Monroe to Pretty Woman . You can not compare a comedy classic with Icon actors such as Monroe,Jack Lemon and the Great Tony Curtis with Julie Roberts and Richard Grere, I wish you would answer to some of theses comments to let us know your even listening. Movies Like- A Hard Days Night , Walk The Line ,Coal Miners Daughter ,Rock Star , Detroit Rock City, all great movies about music legends. The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Steel Dragon, and Kiss. How was these over looked? Halloween is COMING UP . DO A HALLOWEEN POLL . HALLOWEEN POLL 16 movies in OCT. PLEASE DO A HALLOWEEN POLL. MINE Sleepy Hallow - Johnny Depp Friday The Thirteenth on Friday the OCT.13th 2023 Scout Guides to the Zombie Apocalypse Tucker and Dale vrs. Evil funny. The Birds for sure come on Jay I am terrified of birds like you . ( Probably because of this movie but have to watch ever year. ) The Others with Nichole Kidman Scary Stories to tell in the Dark Arsenic and Old Lace

Lisa Rhodes

agree Pretty Women over Fried Green Tomatoes Really?

Lisa Rhodes

Well if that is the case The Wizard of Oz is one of the most beloved classic Movies that all generations have heard of all time. The magnificent beloved story has and still is shown .

Lisa Rhodes

I agree, I’m surprised about Pretty Woman, and I had the same feelings when I watched it recently. And i agree with the other poster, An Officer and a Gentleman is far superior.

Julia

I think the channel is more about them watching things that are so widely known that it’s unfathomable they haven’t already seen it. Love it or hate it, Pretty Woman falls into that category.

Amy Silknitter

Hamilton is phenomenal. It will never win on a poll like this. They should just do it anyway.

Amy Silknitter

And something even as phenomenal as Hamilton stands no chance.

Amy Silknitter

I can’t wrap my head around Kindergarten Cop beating out Jerry Maguire or Fried Green Tomatoes. None of those are my votes, but still.

Amy Silknitter

Yes Please. I would love for them to watch some more sci-fi, but sci-fi rarely gets the votes when mixed in with other movies. I understand that science fiction is not as mainstream as other genres, but that doesn't mean they aren't watch worthy, especially for J&A who tend to enjoy it.

Kristin D

Officer and a Gentleman was a great movie...have not watched in a long time...may have to check it out again. My comment above on PW was maybe a bit strong...just felt when I re-watched it recently that it came off very locked in it's late-80's sensibilities...which just was an aspect/vibe I didn't enjoy as much seeing it this time around...but that's the beauty of movies or any art, it's all subjective, and clearly many here would love to see it reacted to...who knows maybe I'll like it more seeing someone else react to it for the first time...that has happened with other movies they've reacted to (reminded me what I liked about the film).

Brad West

For my money, the story about a guy who sees his relations with females as something transactional until one teaches him the true nature of love starring Richard Gere would be "An Officer and a Gentleman". And I think it holds up well. Just my two cents.

Robert Greffey

Cinderella Man...Seabiscuit...and Good Will Hunting got my votes. Surprised Pretty Woman is getting so many votes...it was a thing when it came out in 1990 but does it really hold up...I saw it again a few years ago and was like "blech, no thanks". But hey, just my opinion and clearly I'm in the minority on that one...all of these are solid movie options

Brad West

I'm pretty sure they're referring to the 2021 version, as it was mentioned several times in their suggestion post comments. I totally agree about 1984, not great, but I really liked the new one and I'm excited about part 2.

Andrew Wilks

"Hard Days Night" "Close Encounters Third Kind" "Spaceballs"

Toby Smith

I made my votes but avoided Dune, as it's not clear which version is up for consideration. I'm assuming it's Dune Pt. 1 from 2021, and not the 1984 film which is... not so good. Didn't vote for it this round, but potentially could if it makes it to the next round, so was hoping for some confirmation one way or the other.

Robert Greffey

Yes, they REALLY need to watch Whale Rider. Unfortunately, not enough folks are familiar with this brilliant and moving film, so would probably never place in a poll.

Robert Greffey

I completely agree, and sad to see it doesn't have more votes. Hamilton is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen or experienced. I think they will absolutely love it and both be in tears too. Hopefully one day it reaches the top, but I'm also happy to see it finally made a poll so that's progress! Lol

precious926

Well, no surprise here, I voted for Blade Runner, Dune, and Close Encounters of The Third Kind. Otherwise, the rest of the movies are all fantastic!

Troy

My same votes too

Nicole Christie

“Bull Durham”, not “Bill Durham”. This is absolutely my favorite baseball movie.

BlueEyedRaven

I will have to say Pretty women is a chick flick with no story line except for a street walker who gets picked up by a rich man and they fall in love that is the story line. That is it boring chick flick adult Cinderella story. As for the Wizard Of Oz it is a classic and it has meaning of all the characters about life. Brain, a Heart and Courage . Home is over the rainbow if you look at it and there is evil anywhere you go. Must see classic for all.

Lisa Rhodes

So many great movies on here

Jon

Can we make the polls a little more cohesive next time, and lower the number of titles 🙏🏼. These are all great movies, but the genres are all over the place, which makes it hard for some of the movies to have a winning chance. There are people who lean more towards certain genres…and movies of those genres tend to out vote the others. So I suggest grouping them by genres…for example: Classic Hollywood (Some Like It Hot, Wizard of Oz) Sci-Fi (Blade Runner, Fifth Element, Close Encounters) Fantasy (Big Fish, Highlander) Drama (Cinderella Man, Good Will Hunting) Rom Com (Pretty Woman, Bill Durham)…etc. You can then have a poll for the movies with the least votes, give yourselves a chance to watch those movies too. Since we’re giving musicals a chance (not a bad thing, I like Hamilton), can we give foreign films a chance as well (Pans Labyrinth).

Patty Estrada

This is a great idea!

Patty Estrada

Dune Part Two comes in 2 months, it’s perfect timing. But I agree, it has to be the 2021 remake, because the old one sucks (IMO).

Patty Estrada

Thank you so much!

Laura Niewohner

If you look, you can see the numbers on the right go up by one as you select a choice.

Michael J Paulus

Part 2 is only 2 months away on November 2nd. It's a perfect time to watch Part 1 which is a fantastic standalone introduction!

DaftBasterd

P.S. I'm so glad it finally made the poll list! Thank you!

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

HAMILTON!!! As teachers, and as parents of daughters who are into singing, and as music fans, and as fans of both romance and action, J and A would seriously love it! Lin-manuel Miranda is a genius, for real. Other reactions online always has the reactor at the end going "whoa. WHOA. I had no idea how incredible that would be."

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

You guys have FOR SURE have to check out The Beatles’ “Help!” and “Yellow Submarine”! You’ll love them!

Peyton Royals

One last suggestion is perhaps to list the year of the movie. Many might be remakes and that makes a difference.

Carolyn Phelan

It would be nice if the poll did not have 25 titles. It is so many. Perhaps do top the 12-15. Then list the next 10 -as "also rans" to be considered in a future poll. List the ones not in the top like they do the teams in coaches poll for the top. Also if we could not comment here on why didn't this or that one make the top rated ones. It's just more confusion for Jay and Amber to read through with their family and busy schedules as teachers. It seemed like the last poll was a LONG time waiting to list the top three. Keep it simple. There are so many movies and so many opinions. So so wordy. Really just trying to keep it simple.

Carolyn Phelan

I’m really new to using Patreon. I’ve picked my 3 favorite movies but how do I “submit” these votes so they can be counted? Thanks RSR family!

Laura Niewohner

You should add the totally incredible V for Vendetta with Natalie Portman

Lana Gorgeous

Let's be honest a Queen soundtrack improves almost any movie unless the sound just does not apply thematically. That sad Highlander is still a fantastic movie. It's like having a Wagyu tomahawk steak perfectly medium rare then getting offered perfect portabella's sauteed in bone marrow to go with it!

steve devoll

Actually, I think J will like pretty woman because it’s a good story and he likes the actors. It’s the Wizard of Oz that I think he won’t like. It’s a little too old and weird for him.

Michael Lynch

(Easily 4th choice would be Fried Green Tomatoes)

J.Fro90

Queen's sounds make that movie some much more that it would have been otherwise.

Arthur Bridges

I Think Jay will hate Pretty Women. Just being honest to much of a chick flick really . No good story line there. Most men do not relate to this Street walker cinderella story. Sorry just being honest. Most of the suggestions were given as something you both would enjoy and I really think some of these are based on one side. Where is the second John Wick . Some of us even categorized the suggestions for you .

Lisa Rhodes

Which Ocean's 11. The original from 1960 with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sam Davis Jr, Joey Bishop and Peter Lawford (The Rat Pack) or the remake from 2001 with George Clooney, Matt Damon and Brad Pitt.

Douglas Custard

I agree. Guys do it by genres, Most of the voters have not even heard of some Like it Hot with Marilyn Monroe, A Hards Day Night About the Beatles, so many classic movies that people never even heard of, like Rebel With Out A Cause , Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Birds. Not really fair for these classic great movies to be thrown out due to lack of never hearing of them.

Lisa Rhodes

Highlander and Dune easy picks! After those choosing between 5th Element and Blade Runner was hard. If not for the soundtrack on Highlander Blade Runner would have beat it just barely!

steve devoll

I hope you are keeping a spreadsheet of all these great movies that are suggested.

Jayce

Alot of not worth it movies mix with good ones.

Strongeyes

It's still not accepting 3 votes. And Amber, it's Bull Durham, not Bill....

Karen Silvera

So many can't miss movies on this poll

David Goodman

You should add Rounders to this list

Shutter Crazy

This one's TOUGH. Good Will Hunting, for sure. Torn on all the rest; they're all such great choices.

RC Romero

I just saw Hamilton on the list! I think I'll update my votes.

Shirley Durr

I'm not sure if it's possible to restrict it to only allow for 3 votes, but it just now let me select 4+ options (accidentally/temporarily), including when I tested this after refreshing the app/page.

EmberCello

The fact that Hamilton is getting so few votes is absolutely tragic.

Singing Wordwright

I was able to vote for 3, no problem

Katie Jackson

It only let me choose 1, here are the 3 I wanted to vote for: Lethal Weapon, young guns & pretty woman

Kara Davis

Crossing Fingers that Fifth Element will sneak by.

Kristin D

Close out the app then go back in and ut should let you choose 1 more, then close it again and reopen and choose the 3rd. That's how I got mine to chose 3.

Jayce

Good Will Hunting, Good Will Hunting, Good Will Hunting

David Diesbourg

I’m crossing my fingers that J will FINALLY see The Wizard of Oz!!!

Liz Zero

Because I think you two will like them, I picked one musical -- Sister Act, one teacher story with music -- Mr. Holland's Opus, and one action movie -- Fifth Element. That last one was hardest because I also hope Highlander ends up in the next round. I chose the one with the fewer votes to give it a boost. I was also tempted to choose Close Encounters but it has even more votes than Highlander. It has some action but is more.

Shirley Durr

Bull Durham is a much better movie than Bill Durham.

Clayton Johnson

Ok, mine still on 1 choice still

Clayton Johnson

Yay! Spaceballs is on the list!

Casey Salley

If we were allowed 3 more, I would have picked Fried Green Tomatoes,Big Fish and Oceans Eleven

Elizabeth Franco

It has to be the one from 2021 because it killed with reviews and audiences

Karl Kraus

Voted for Wizard of Oz because it is a must as a parent,Close Encounter of the Third Kind to it’s ET for adults and Mr.Holland’s Opus because my dad was a high school band director and I think they will relate as teachers

Elizabeth Franco

If Close Encounters loses in the polls AGAIN, I think it's time you've seen it anyway It's been on your suggestions list since January and it's a really great movie You need to see it!

Karl Kraus

There was a Dune made in 1984. It has sting in it. Though, it wasn't a great as the novel. I'd only give it 6/10 stars. So which Dune is the one on the list?

Karen Silvera

It's only letting us do 1, but my 3 are Wizard Of Oz, Sister Act & Pretty Woman

J.Fro90

Would have loved to have chosen more than three but maybe I can get to vote on some of the others next poll. For those who have trouble voting I’m doing so through Chrome.

Elizabeth Franco

You should do a sleeper poll. I will forever want you to watch “Whale Rider” since you have daughters

Leonard

Mine is still wonky.

Karen Silvera

Why is Dune on here? LOL Part Two hasn't even been released yet so you'll wait for a long time to see what happens next :spoilers: Dune is a two part tale based on a book, in case no one told you

Karl Kraus

Worked fine for me guys. I hope my Seabiscuit makes the cut!..lol I also voted for “Big Fish”, it’s a sleeper and probably won’t make the cut but it’s another great, feel good movie you’d love. My third was “Wizard of Oz”, how you’ve never seen this idk…lol You should get the kids in on that one when you do it!!

John

Me too???

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

Can I just give all 3 of my votes to Hamilton? 😀

Amy Silknitter

Only got one. Wizard of Oz, fifth element, lethal weapon

MovieMagician

It’s letting me vote as many times as I want

Dylan

Oh and speaking of the last star wars, you've also said Rogue One sounds cool and interesting I hope you get to that one as well, preferably right after you're done with the main saga And, you also never responded to my message on the last jedi that you wanted to have answers for

Karl Kraus

i got to vote 3 times

Karl Kraus

I was able to vote for Sister Act, Pretty Woman, and Fifth Element

Fuiono Ching Sung

I finally got 3 but had to close out and reopen 2 more times to get to add the other 2.

Jayce

Checking on this now

Jordan Robinson

Also please like comment if you were allowed more than one vote. I want to make sure this feature works.

Jordan Robinson

I am a huge Beatles fan. A Hard Days Night is a great album. It is a horrible horrible movie. Cringe bad. Don’t watch it. For an off the main path suggestion, check out Breaking Away. Independent movie from 1979. Oscar nominee. Coming of age, sports, romance, fathers and sons. I can never tune it out.

William Benton

It only allows me to choose 1.

Jayce

Cinderella man .. 👍
