December Polls

What type of Polls would you guys like to see this month?

*A Holiday poll is for certain, leave comments down below if you have any suggestions for that!

Comments

I would like to suggest The Holiday with Kate Winslet and Jack Black

Patricia Mabry

Great Comedies for December: Pink Panther ( 1 &2), Lone Star State of Mind, Undercover Blues, Rat Race, Spaceballs, The Money Pit, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Snatch, Arthur ( 1 & 2), Stir Crazy, Young Frankenstein, For Christmas movies: All of the Santa Claus movies, Trading Places, Home Alone( all of them), My Blue Heaven, The Hangover (3 movies in the series)

Fonzwife

Not a Holiday movie, but i wanted to suggest this one anyway: The movie "The Paper" is amazing. Nobody seems to know this movie exists. It was directed by Ron Howard, and has a cast of A-list stars, including Michael Keaton, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, and more.

Jason Vulgamore

Deck the Halls ( 2006 ) -- Steve (Matthew Broderick), suburban dad and Christmas enthusiast, finds a wrinkle in his well-ordered existence with the arrival of his new neighbor Danny (Danny DeVito). Danny has big dreams and plans to illuminate his house with enough holiday lights to make it visible from space. Not to be outdone, Steve declares a war of one-upmanship with Danny that threatens to drag the Christmas spirit through the slush.

Fonzwife

One of my favorite Christmas movies is "White Christmas" staring Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby. A great movie where you get to hear Bing Crosby sing the iconic song.

Jason Vulgamore

Valentines Movie …. Love Story

Ed Littner

Christmas Movies …. The Family Stone ….. Janis Joplin …. The Rose

Goose VF-1

Would love to see To Kill a Mockingbird which was a very infuential film for me growing up and a fave to watch with my grandmother.

BRT

The fact that Harold and Maude hasn't been adapted into a musical is a travesty.

BRT

Agreed. This is one of those quitessential Christmas films and most people come away loving it.

BRT

Music biopics would be awesome! I'll second Coal Miner's Daughter, Sweet Dreams, Walk the Line, Ray, The Doors, Lady Sings the Blues (though it's mostly fiction but i guess most of these have a heavy dose of fiction in their scripts). I'll add The Runaways, Bound for Glory, Behind the Candelabra, What's Love Got to Do With It?, Shine, and Amadeus

BRT

I couldn't agree more! The Final Cut version of Blade Runner is just perfection. One of Harrison Ford's most overlooked movies. Thanks for the reply, it is most appreciated👍!!!!

Troy

Yes great idea…make it its own genre monthly…

Donna raney

Becky Koupparis

As far as musicals Hamilton Mamma Mia Singing in the Rain Hairspray

Becky Koupparis

Just sending your family positive vibes this beautiful Sunday!

Casey Salley

Coming off of The Godfather, if you want an awesome Italian romantic comedy, you should definitely check out Moonstruck.

Kristen DePizzo

Haha! Good thought!

Mairn

I enjoy Knives Out so much. It's got comedy, mystery, great writing, and great acting. I think they would both love this one.

Troy

If they do a musical, don't you think "Oklahoma" should be first?

Toby Smith

Every person I know when I have suggested to them to watch That Thing You DO! to has never heard of that movie. But once they see it, they're a fan. A cult following? And Tom Hanks!!!

Alice Coulter

Knives Out! YES!

Alice Coulter

LOVE We Are Marshall!

Alice Coulter

"Lilys of the Field"

Toby Smith

Then, continuing down the Sidney Poitier rabbit hole - They Call Me Mr. Tibbs, and To Sir With Love.

Mairn

I have a suggestion for Jay regarding musicals. I'd love to see you do some Gene Kelly musicals. Start with Singing In The Rain. It is widely known as the GOAT. One of the reasons is that Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds are such energetic dancers and truly a delight to watch! Fred Astaire, another dancer of the era, was very light on his feet and flowing, but Gene Kelly... wow! Real athleticism! So I would say approach it from that angle. Pay attention to their athletic ability. It's quite something! I was watching a clip of an interview last night with Debbie Reynolds regarding Sing In The Rain (Turner Classic Movies). She was only 18 and she didn't know how to dance when she was cast in the role! She spoke of the grueling schedule and how in certain dance scenes they would do take after take all day long. She remembered having blood in her shoes. Also, Donald O'Connor has one of the best solo dance scenes in the movie and is also amazingly athletic. Start there.💃🕺🏻

Mairn

Ooooooh! Lady Sings The Blues! I haven't thought about that one in a while.

Mairn

This is an absolute classic with some of the most gifted actors of the last century. And the subject matter still resonates today. Probably never happen but great suggestion.

Geoff Thomas

A movie that will create conversation "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"

Toby Smith

For more good stories The Martian Kid with John and Joan Cussack and To Kill a Mockingbird a classic

Elizabeth Franco

Oh and Silkwood

Elizabeth Franco

Ryan O'Neil just passed away, so it would be great to see a reaction to "Paper Moon", starring Ryan and his daughter Tatum O'Neil. Set in the Great Depression, mostly a comedy with a few poignant and action segments, it's a treasure trove of wonderful character actors, including the late great Madeline Kahn, and directed by the great Peter Bogdanovich. One of my favorite all time films. *maybe better to save for January so it's not competing with Christmas.

BRT

For Christmas:Jingle All The Way, The Last Holiday (w/ Queen Latifa) National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, The Holiday (Kate winslet) U should also do a movie musicals poll! Some suggestions: Chicago, Mamma Mia, Greatest Showman, Hamilton, Hairspray, Dream Girls, and Sister Act! Not sure if this would be considered a musical but I’m really hoping you guys watch this at some point. It’s such a fun movie and u can’t go wrong with Whoopi!

Kim G.

The Unsinkable Molly Brown! Molly Brown was a person you saw in Titanic played by Kathy Bates. A real life story of rags to riches, she struggled to be accepted Into society because she was "new money". In the musical Molly Brown is portrayed by Debbie Reynolds, an amazing singer and dancer. She is arguably better known for Singing In The Rain. Also, Carrie Fisher's mother!

Mairn

Just to add a few more good choices, this is an excellent idea very deep category. Ray (Ray Charles), La Bamba (Ritchie Valens), Rocket Man (Elton John), The Doors (Val Kilmer amazing as Jim Morrison), Judy (Rene Zelweger amazing as Judy Garland), Lady Sings the Blues (Diana Ross amazing as Billie Holliday).

Geoff Thomas

Saving Mr banks Coco (animated) It's a wonderful life ( christmas) Life is beautiful (war) Remember the titans ( sports) Schindler's list (war)

Luisa

I was waiting for one of these reactors to watch JFK because of the fact that it was 60 years ago. I’m still waiting.

Sylvan Green

Definitely some Christmas films!

BRT

All good ones it’s hard to think of every movie they are so many

Elizabeth Franco

All great!

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

Or The Black Stallion?

Casey Salley

I forgot to mention some other great musicals: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, West Side Story, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Casey Salley

Maybe even the Lonesome Dove series

Casey Salley

I’d say Harold and Maude is just a cult classic, but a great Cat Stevens soundtrack

Casey Salley

Love this idea

Casey Salley

Classic - "Gone With The Wind" long movie but one that most everyone has seen.

Toby Smith

Biographies like JFK (it's been 60 years last month and it's got Kevin Costner). Selma, Ghandi, Lincoln, Mississippi Burning, Norma Rae, Milk, Malcom X, Capote, Ghosts of Mississippi, Lady Sings the Blues to name a few.

Karen Silvera

Norma Rae

Karen Silvera

And I'm thinking of drama based on real people too. Malcom X (Denzel), JFK (60 years ago last month), Selma, Ghandi, Good Night and Good luck (Murrow and Sen McCarthy during the Red scare), Lincoln, J Edgar and Theory of Everything to name a few. There are so many historical people that are important to remember.

Karen Silvera

Since you like.ABBA, you would probably like the movie MAMA MIA. The whole story is based on a collection of Abba songs lyrics. Also another nice tom hanks movie when he was young is Turner and Hooch. He is a cop with a big dog. Daddy's Home 2, is a funny Christmas movie with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg

Mark

Holiday Poll: It's A Wonderful Life, A Miracle on 34th Street, Jingle All The Way, Four Christmases, The FamilyMan. And I guess we could throw Die Hard 2: Die Harder in the mix, as it takes place on Christmas Eve.

Jayce

I like the music biopic option... So much so, I sent that suggestion last year lol. In fact there are so many great ones that I thinking Music Movie Monday (maybe a different music biopic like once a month). Another poll suggestion is musicals - Xanadu, Mama Mia, Singing in the Rain, The Greatest Showman, etc. Also, not a poll suggestion, but I really think you both would like Father of the Bride with Steve Martin and Martin Short.

Melissa Gorecki

The Full Monty is so very British!!

Kristin D

A Beautiful Mind!

Kristin D

Like Gladiator....I feel like this movie will always be a bridesmaid and never a bride....

Kristin D

Added Contact to my list! It is a really great film!!

Kristin D

Yes, I would love actiony sci-fi like Fifth Element, but it keeps losing out, just like Gladiator, and I've recommended them ad nauseum, so on to something else. Added Gattaca to my list. I think it would lose out, but it is a really great film. One of my favorites.

Kristin D

Saving Mr Banks, Road to Perdition,

Colin Kato

They have already reacted to Saving Private Ryan.

Jayce

Also Contact.

Jayce

Love the female lead movies idea!

Jayce

First idea, how about a poll of movies you would like to see. Second idea, music biopics. There are a lot of great ones. Coal Miners Daughter ( Loretta Lynn), Sweet Dreams (Patsy Cline), Walk The Line (Johnny Cash) The Buddy Holly Story, Great Balls Of Fire (Jerry Lee Lewis), ELVIS 2022, and there is an Elvis 1979 starring Kurt Russell), Bohemian Rhapsody (Freddie Mercury). Oh, and Dolly's movies, Coat Of Many Colors, I think that's the name. It would be perfect for Christmas! There is a 2nd one, Christmas of Many Colors: Circle Of Love. I also forgot Tina Turner, What's Love Got To Do With It.

Jayce

Mystery movies ("Gone Girl" is good) Music movies (Hard Days Night, Lady Sings the Blues") Christmas - "White Christmas" and "It's a Wonderful Life" Valentines Day "Sleepless in Seattle" Easter - "Harvey" (about a giant, invisible rabbit)

Toby Smith

Yeah, I'm also eager for some sci-fi drama rather than a sci-fi horror or sci-fi action (even though I would also appreciate Alien and The 5th Element as well). Two great suggestions above, but I'd want to throw Gattaca in that mix. It'd probably lose to either of your two suggestions, but at least it would put it on the Rob Squad radar.

Robert Greffey

How about Tom Hanks Movies named That Think You Do? 😄

Greg McDaniel

Genre polls moving forward.

Chuck

Bridget

Exactly! Those are solid choices as well. I’ll add “City of God” “Parasite” “La Vie En Rose”

Patty Estrada

Yeah, definitely the original. Gotta watch that one. I think Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome can be skipped though.

Troy

The best holiday movie I've seen in recent years is Christmas Chronicles with Kurt Russell. Absolutely fantastic movie. This is coming from someone who hates Christmas movies in general.

Jason Walters

Yes! The original Mad Max!

Mairn

The Last Waltz for sure! But I've been after them to watch Purple Rain💜

Mairn

If you're doing musicals, you have to do Singing In The Rain! And then that takes you down the Gene Kelly rabbit hole! My favorite Gene Kelly is An American In Paris, but Singing In The Rain is an absolute must!

Mairn

Exactly!

Patty Estrada

Musicals!!! So many amazing movies get dismissed because they have music in them. Hamilton, Jesus Christ Superstar, Labyrinth, Fiddler on the Roof... does Harold and Maude count as a musical? It's got that amazing Cat Stevens soundtrack.

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

Musicals!!! So many amazing movies get dismissed because they have music in them. Hamilton, Jesus Christ Superstar, Labyrinth, Fiddler on the Roof, Pitch Perfect...

Maya Bairey «SupermodelSquad»

I like the idea of music themed films not necessarily musicals. Like the Beatles films…A Hard Days Night, Help, Let it Be. The Who….Tommy, Quadrophenia. The Band… The Last Waltz. Pink Floyd….The Wall Woodstock. Those types of movies.

Geoff Thomas

Mairn

Music-y movies. Not musicals but things like labyrinth, pure country, walk the line, Bohemian Rhapsody, etc

David Goodman

Space themed- The Martian (scientifically sound), Hidden Figures (about the space race, the contribuions of People of Color and women), The Right Stuff (the very beginning of the space race), 2001: A Space Odyssey (trippy), Alien (scary), Mars Attacks (ridiculous, hilarious, star-studded- Tom Jones, Jack Black, Jack Nicholson...twice!), Don't Look Up (ridiculous, hilarious, and a little scary because despite its ridiculousness it's kinda accurate)

Mairn

I'd like to see you review two of my all-time favorite TV series that only had one season, were never given a chance by the networks they were on. 1. "Firefly" had 14 one-hour episodes before being killed by new network management. The network started killing it off by not showing the pilot episode ("Serenity") until the 11th episode and mixing up the order. The producer, Joss Whedon, intended them to air in this order: 1. Serenity (the episode, not the movie) 2. The Train Job 3. Bushwhacked 4. Shindig 5. Safe 6. Our Mrs. Reynolds 7. Jaynestown 8. Out of Gas 9. Ariel 10. War Stories 11. Trash 12. The Message 13. Heart of Gold 14. Objects in Space I think you will grow to care for the characters. After the series was killed, Joss wrote the movie "Serenity" to tie up the loose ends left hanging from the aborted series. 2. "Forever" had 22 episodes before being cancelled. Just watch in the order they aired. Great cast. Fascinating premise and storylines that slowly explain things. I hope they do a movie with this one as well. 3. "Awake" is the last tv series I allowed myself to get hooked on. (If I like it, it seems, it's cursed for failure.) It lasted only 13 episodes. It stars Jason Isaacs (who played the part of Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movie series). You can see Jason Isaacs in a different light as a professional actor. I cursed out loud when I learned it was cancelled.

Shirley Durr

In order to commemorate the anniversary of pearl Harbor maybe a war Poll? Pearl harbor, Schindler list, inglorious bastards, the pianist, life is beautiful, Johnny got his gun and full metal jacket

Kathy shively

The Commitments!

Mairn

And then you should react to the Carol Burnett skits parody of Sunset Boulevard🤣

Mairn

Sunset Boulevard

Mairn

“Made for TV”, before cable there used to be feature films made for television on the “big 3 networks”. I know you two reviewed Brian’s Song (1971) already. Some of the other classics of this era were Duel (1971), Sybil (1976), The Day After (1983), The Burning Bed (1984) and my favorite Trilogy of Terror (1975)

Sylvan Green

Western:Silverado,Westward Ho the Women,Wyatt Earp,Stage Coach,High Noon,Shane, The Cowboys,Rooster Cogburn, Shootest.

Alice Coulter

The Monuments Men

Mairn

I suggest the movie The Big Year to start off 2024!

Mairn

With Patty Estrada's suggestion of foreign language films, there's also a good number of films from English speaking countries that might be fun for a poll. Suggestions I might throw out: Whale Rider (New Zealand 2002 - drama - Because it's simply an awesome film) Bend It Like Beckham (U.K. 2002 - comedy/drama - Lots of Indian culture, soccer, and a few laughs) The Commitments (Ireland 1991 - musical comedy/drama - Irish folks form a classic soul band. Bet the music channel folks vote for that one) Hunt for the Wilderpeople (New Zealand 2016 - comedy/drama - Troubled youth and crotchety old on the run and making connections.) The Man From Snowy River (Australia 1982 - western - based on a classic Australian poem from their pioneering days.) The Full Monty (U.K. 1997 - comedy/drama - Because I always seem to be plugging this movie. And it's funny.)

Robert Greffey

Multiple losses poll You'll have to go back and look at your archive for this one but do a poll that has movies that keep on losing... like Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Karl Kraus

Purple Rain!

Mairn

White Christmas!

Mairn

For the holiday poll, it'll be tough to fill in enough slots since you've already seen most of the usual choices last year But I'll say, It's a wonderful life, Miracle on 34th Street (1947), the grinch (2000) with Jim Carrey

Karl Kraus

Historical and true life dramas:Gladiator, The Patriot,Gettysburg,Bridge Over The River Kwai The Perfect Storm,Flight 93 Erin Brockvich,Braveheart

Alice Coulter

The Notebook. I can even picture J in tears over that one.

Alice Coulter

Oh yes...GOODFELLAS! especially after just coming off of The Godfather.

Alice Coulter

Polls to get to when the new year begins Right now, I'd like you to watch movies that were meant for the holidays or were released during the holidays, like The Sound of Music and Rogue One (Star Wars) One is a family favorite that I recommend for you and the other is in a franchise you absolutely love and will love even more once you watch the movie

Karl Kraus

Biopics: Coalminer’s Daughter Loretta Lynn,Sweet Dreams (Patsy Cline,Walk the Line Johnny Cash,What’s Love Got to do with It (Tina Turner,

Elizabeth Franco

Tin Cup would be a good one too!

Alice Coulter

It's A Wonderful Life the best Christmas movie of all time in my opinion.

Anthony Donato

Musicals, Parody, Action, Fantasy, RomCom, miscellaneous would be great polls!! (Miscellaneous would be movies that fit in several genres)

Veronica Daye West

Music-based films (But not "musicals" per se) such as Rock Star and That Thing You Do! Amber would especially love Rock Star due to the lead actor, but J may have to have cold water in hand to calm her down. 😉

Alice Coulter

First for the Holidays:Miracle in 34th Street 1947,It’s a Wonderful Life 1946,The Bells of Saint Mary’s,White Christmas,The Waltons (The Homecoming) A Christmas Carol (George C Scott) Love Actually,

Elizabeth Franco

VERY good idea!

Alice Coulter

Holiday poll: It’s a Wonderful Life, Violent Night, Miracle on 34th Street, Prancer, Home Alone franchise

Cody Price

Major League!

Alice Coulter

2nd place poll. You should have a poll of the movies that got second place. There are so many must see movies that you miss because they didn't top the poll.

David Goodman

It could be interesting to see how well The Squad tackles some subtitles for a foreign language flick. Like black and white, some not used to it are intimidated by it, but it's amazing how quickly you can get immersed into a good story and kinda forget you're reading it. Pan's Labyrinth is a solid choice, too. If I had to round out a poll, I'd maybe put it against things like Amélie, The Lives of Others, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Run Lola Run, or Life is Beautiful... Dunno, just spit-balling. There's tons of good movies not in English.

Robert Greffey

While maybe not a “ classic”, would love to see you react to “Just Friends” with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Fairs. It is a slapstick comedy and I still laugh every time I watch it. 🎄❤️

Sharona

Black & White Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th St. I also like the original b&w of The Bishops Wife and Bachelor Mother. David Niven is great in both. White Chriatmas with Bing Crosby is fun too!

Leesa

Types of polls, Action/Sci-fi, and suspense/thrillers would be nice. There’s a lot of good movies in those categories. For Christmas if you haven’t already you can place these movies in a separate poll. Christmas Chronicals with Kurt Russell; Violent Night with David Harbour.

Eddy

Animated/Anime

Thad Moone

"Love actually" is a great holiday warm feeling movie ❤️ Plus you an see Professor Snape in a new type of roll lol

Elizabeth DeMerie

Also History genre. Lincoln, All The President's Men, Saving Private Ryan, Patton, Gettysburg

Kathy Carter

Have you watched any of the classic Christmas movies like miracle on 34th St. the original 1947 black-and-white not the newer colorized version or it’s a wonderful life with Jimmy Stewart those are my favorite Christmas movies oh, and if you do read this, please react to the Beatles Back In the U.S.S.R. or Helter skelter actually Helter skelter would be cool Also, the song, The End, has a great three or four guitar solo that’s awesome and a drum solo as well. I believe it’s Ringo.

Thomas Horton
