Layers of memories! Thanks so much for choosing this awesome film. It was a date night movie for me.

Not sure if you noticed, Anthony Michael Hall who you noted correctly as also being in Sixteen Candles and the Breakfast Club was also the bad boyfriend in Edward Scissorhands. As always, loved your reactions! Every time we go on a family trip to Disneyland or to see family in Oklahoma, we rent a van or now suburban and somewhere along the line the hilarity ensues and we mention this movie and begin calling ourselves the Griswold’s. Definitely courage every family to take a road trip at least once, lots of laughs (some headaches) and a lifetime of treasured memories.

Most family road trips are very familer to this movie. Car trips back in the day Were pretty memorable to say,No Cell phones no I pads nothing but road games and soggy sandwiches. I went on a road trip when I was pregnant with my son with 8 other people in a station wagon for a two and a half day constant driving to California . I live in Iowa. No pets , but the ice melted and made the sandwiches soggy.Straight 4 drivers never stopped .except to eat and go to the bathroom . Every parent needs to experience this in their lives with their children No I pad , phones turned off and in front . Not even the parents can use unless for emergency. Map out your road destination on a map put it on a piece of paper . Just go baby . I remember my husband and I wouldn't mind driving 8 hours to an amusement park with a car load of kids. In what I told them was the shagging wagon when they got older . I miss those days . My husband has passed my son grew up 39 now and I am alone memories you will remember for ever no matter how they go. Wally World was an amusement Park with the Wonderful Wally the Moose John Candy ,Anthony Michael Hall, and the great super model Christy Brinkly lot of stars. He imagines cheating on his wife all the time in ever movie . Even Christmas Vacation the pool scene.

I first knew Vangelis from the music of the show "Cosmos" with Carl Sagan on PBS in 1980. His songs "Heaven and Hell, Part 1", "Alpha", and "Entends-Tu Les Chiens Aboyer?" still touch me to my core all of these years later.
He brings a simple yet beautiful sense to the idea of humanities interaction with the Cosmos.

I think you're overlooking that we saw Harold Ramis doing his thing from the director's chair much more recently with Groundhog Day.

Usually when the wife and I go somewhere, I let her drive. It's just easier letting her do it herself instead of telling me how the whole way. The only exceptions tend to be in foreign countries, especially ones where you need to drive on the left. She just can't deal with that, so in the UK, Australia, and our frequent trips to The Bahamas, it's all me behind the wheel. She still offers plenty of... advice. 😒
Planes, Trains and Automobiles also had a scene with a vibrating bed. I don't think they make them anymore, and it's been decades since I've seen one. I never got the appeal, and don't miss them. But a nice blast from the past. Like gas caps behind the rear license plate. Yeah, that was a real thing. I had an old Buick like that. I think I've only ever seen gas caps near the front hood like the Truckster had on older fancy European sports cars. I think. Never had to actually use one.
The dog tied to the back bumper seemed to be played for a dark comedy bit, but it's a joke that has never managed to land with me. And I like dark comedy.
As Michelle Clark noted, Wally World scenes were filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain, just a stone's throw from where I live. I've been a couple of times, but the best time I ever had there, or at any theme park ever, was one particular Mother's Day. No one was taking mom to Six Flags. The lines were short for the morning, and by afternoon, no lines at all. Eventually, the attendants would just let us keep our seats when the ride was over if we wanted to go again. Or just change seats. We started riding each at the front, middle, and end to critique which was the best place to be for each coaster. It was crazy, and I almost felt like a Griswold having the park to myself but without having to threaten the staff with firearms. A friend of mine said he had a similar experience going on a Super Bowl Sunday.
As a massive fan of the musician and composer Vangelis, I do like the reference to the Chariots of Fire theme while running through the Wally World parking lot. Not something you hear often these days, so perhaps among the more dated references. But I'm guessing still iconic among runners, so maybe Amber's heard that one before. He won an Oscar for that, but personally, Vangelis did his best film scoring work on Blade Runner.

1 of my favorite movies in the world, I saw Christmas Vacation first & my mom always said "Christmas Vacation is great, but my favorite is the first Vacation movie" and I remember we were on a week long trip to Disneyworld & the movie came on during that trip, I remember bit being able to breathe cause of how hard I was laughing (which is what I remember about my first time watching Christmas Vacation when I was 9 or 10) & basically those 2 are Staples, of the 5 movies these are the BEST 2, European Vacation is OK, it's a bit darker in tone & extreme (with little pay off for the 2), but it's not bad......Vegas Vacation & the Vacation remake/sequel are bad (make no mistake the re-quel is the worst).

Wally World was filmed at Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. The wooden roller coaster featured in the film was closed & destroyed by a fire just a few years ago. What a delight to see this reaction!!

Love this movie! This is my favorite of the “Vacation” movies. Written by John Hughes. It was based on a “National Lampoon” article he wrote a few years prior called “Vacation’57”. It was about a trip to Disneyland he and his family took when he was a kid. The story was changed to a modern family going to Wally World because they couldn’t get the rights to use Disney World.
Fun fact: Harold Ramos the director is the voice of Marty Moose. The scenes shot with John Candy were filmed months later. Anthony-Michael Hall is noticeably much taller.

it's been a while since you've seen them but Harold Ramis, the director for this movie, also did Caddyshack and acted in Ghostbusters Brian Doyle Murray, one of the actors here, is Bill Murray's brother this movie had a plethora of comedians that were hot in this day
The song at the start is "Holiday Road" by Lindsey Buckingham. It was written for the movie. He joined Fleetwood Mac along with Stevie Nicks in the mid 70s while dating her at the same time.
