STEEL MAGNOLIAS (1989)| FIRST TIME WATCHING| MOVIE REACTION

Comments

Heartbreaking but beautiful film. Back in the day we called people like Ouiser...Cantankerous (bad-tempered, argumentative, and uncooperative, a grumpy-gus, lol. Love Ouiser and Clairee, they have an amazing relationship, reminds me of me and my bestie/chosen sister of 45 yrs and still strong. Thanx so much, Take care, Peace

Fairygrl

Love this movie. Always cry at the funeral scene. Sally Field's performance was excellent. Medicine for diabetics have come a long way. There are machines that can detect if yout blood sugar is getting low or high. They even have service animals that diabetics can have with them that can detect your blood sugars. Having too low or too high blood sugars can be dangerous and lead to a diabetic coma. Anyways love your guys' reaction to Steel Magnolias. Love you guys!!

ArtemisLuna85

So happy you reacted to this one. You are such a wonderful couple and a Iove my Friday nights seeing your reactions! Sadly, the "Chick Flick" label gets put on many magnificent films and people will not watch them because of the "stigma". Some great ones that I would imagine you would enjoy. "Beaches".....the power of friendship and great comedy.....Bette Midler. "9 to 5"....Dolly's first and absolute best film, "Pretty Woman"......the movie that made Julia Roberts an A list actress.

FriarTom

any consideration on reacting to "The Godfather" yes it did not win the poll, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not worth reacting too, most reaction channels have reacted to it, yes we Patreons have the privilege of voting for a certain movie to win but that doesn't speak for the thousands and thousands of YouTube subscribers you have, just something to think about, Godfather does great numbers on YT 😊🙏

dieselbeast

Loved this reaction, made me join! Love to see you react to Coal miner's daughter with sissy spacek

Jennifer Gordon

Alright, you guys convinced me to join patreon, Such good movies lately!

Connor Fallon

...and here I am, eager for them to see Daryl Hannah in Blade Runner. 🤣 Much smaller part, and nowhere near as charming a film or performance as Splash. So I guess if you're in it to showcase Daryl's talents, yours is the better choice. Hopefully both will be up on the channel someday soon. 🤞

Robert Greffey

“Smokey and the Bandit” is such a great movie.

Jeff Mills

Beaches made my brother 😢

Marie247Art

Great cast! I love them all and I could feel Sally Fields pain at the cemetery, her acting skills are amazing. She was also the actress that played Forrest Gump’s mother. You need to see her in Smoky and the Bandit and if you have seen Mrs. Doubtfire that’s another grey movie of hers.

Jennifer Sanchez

What a great reaction to such a great movie! I'm so happy you reacted to this. I love this movie, and the cast is an all star cast! Acting legends on the screen for this movie and it showed! They were all phenomenal, but Sally Fields and Julia Roberts! Wow just incredible. And Tom Skerritt, dad, you saw him in Top Gun. I just love his character. I love everything about this movie. It's just so well written and so well made.

ah ive heard of lower saxony very good part of the country to live in since i have the Navy in my blood i also understand that bremerhaven, the naval base, is near there id love to visit germany some day it's high on my bucket list

Karl Kraus

I’ve always imagined if I get old I’m gonna be a mix of Ouiser and Clairee ❤️❤️perfect reaction y’all!

Jennifer Redmond

Okay Man, than we're keeping it this way. I live in northern germany all my life in a state called Lower Saxony if that says you something. Nowadays i'm highly thankful that i had soo good teachers in school. Otherwise my English would be so bad, i couldn't communicate with someone else from Patreon, YouTube, Twitch - you name it

LarsGrimm

Erin Brockovich is a GREAT Julia Roberts movie it's based on a true story she shines in this one

Karl Kraus

@LarsGrimm i was given the german spelling of Karl when I was born i was named to honor the German blood in my family i suppose my grandfather's middle name was Carl so the C changed to K to make it look more genuine im not conversational in German but I understand SOME words and phrases but it's been awhile i haven't spoken a single sentence in German since high school

Karl Kraus

that's exactly how the fans are approaching the prequels the ones that despise the sequels are giving them more leniency, more perspective until Disney made the new trilogy 1-3 were my favorites because I grew up with them and they completed anakin's story i love the sequels so i already have mad respect for 1-3 but the fact remains I want more and more movie fans watching them for the first time, starting with jay and amber

Karl Kraus

The Outsiders is a great movie!

Leonard

It is charming. I especially like that it’s an engaging rom-com that doesn’t rely on some contrived misunderstanding to make for some third-act chase and reconciliation. It’s a common trope of the genre, and featured in many I like, but overdone enough that I appreciate when someone does something different.

Robert Greffey

I really liked “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Pleasantly surprised. Never thought I’d like it. Very good movie.

Jeff Mills

Love Raising Arizona! I totally back that recommendation!

Kristin D

Yeah, if they want a taste of some gritty 1950's teen culture, The Outsiders is peek into a world and time often more idealistically rendered and romanticized in film. The 50's weren't so wholesome everywhere. O Brother is nice enough, but the Cohen Bros. flick I'd really want them to check out is Raising Arizona. But let's face it, a betting man would place their first Coehen brothers movie for the channel being Fargo. Which ain't bad, either. It's most folk's favorite and most well known of theirs overall, I'd say, so...

Robert Greffey

Hallo. Nothing to do with Star Wars, but speaking of Germany... I'm sure Germany has a lot of great cinema I'm largely unaware of (and most I've been exposed to lately through my job has been untranslated to English for me in any way, so... don't get much out of it.) And I've been eager for them to get to a English language foreign gem or two. But if the Rob Squad ever did decide to do a German language film, Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) is a recent export from Deutschland I particularly enjoyed (with English subs😉 ). At a previous job, I seem to remember liking a little cold-war era comedy called Sonnenallee, but it's been long while so not sure if it's something that would hold up. And cry about Star Wars all you like, but it seems all the more unlikely I'll get my wish for Oscar Weekend viewing of Amadeus. I'll still keep pitching it, though. As for the Star Wars prequels, I'm betting on some fun reactions even though I've never had any great love for those films. Although after seeing Disney (IMHO) epically fumble with their trilogy, I've managed to find strange new respect for the prequels.

Robert Greffey

This is a great movie with a fantastic cast. Makes me want to watch the whole thing again. This reminds me of a few movies that are worth considering. The Outsiders: a more serious movie about teenagers in 1960s Tulsa Oklahoma. A very young Tom Cruise and Patrick Swayze, and others. O Brother Where Art Thou (a personal favorite, and quite an enjoyable ride, and great traditional music). Rural Mississippi during the 1930s, a modern satire, loosely based on Homer's epic Greek poem the Odyssey. The Trouble With Harry: Alfred Hitchcock movie. Shirley MacLaine’s first starring role. A dark comedy about the mysterious death of a local named Harry.

Kristin D

Ah i kinda was already thinking that you atleast have german, swiss or austrian roots, because i mean Karl Kraus (if that's you're real name) is not a common typical american name. How good is you're german, so than maybe we could communicate in it?

LarsGrimm

I haven't watched this in many (or ten) years, it was great to enjoy with you again... and yeah tears still over such a genuine performance. I'll recommend some more Julia Roberts movies that will give you the range of emotions as well. Stepmom, Sleeping with the Enemy and Erin Brochovich. I had completely forgotten that Daryl Hannah was in this. You just HAVE to watch Splash someday. Finally, one of my favorite "chick" flicks is The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood that really embraces the relationships women have as friends.

G Faith Owens EA

Sometimes I hate it when they backtrack on their movies and go to something that lost on a poll but got 2nd place SM got 2nd when it lost to Vacation so if they don't post The Phantom Menace on Sundays early access I'm gonna start thinking they're dodging SW to explore something else

Karl Kraus

Good turn by Dolly Parton, but as movies go, I seem to remember liking 9 to 5 better. Been a minute (or two) since I've seen either that or this all the way through, so I could be off on that. Another powerhouse cast, too, in 9 to 5. Dolly also did the theme song for a decent music reaction channel crossover. But glad Amber finally got to check this off her list. Personally, I'm waiting for her to get your chick-flick on with a previous poll loser, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Robert Greffey

I dunno. I'm starting to become amused by the constant anticipation since they teased it. It's quickly becoming THE first comment question when anything else gets posted. But I guess that's just my ornery streak coming out. 😆 At least we got George's first genuine big hit, though. But like you, interested to see what The Squad has to say about them when they finally get to it.

Robert Greffey

Ah a fellow German! Appreciate the agreement mein Herr! I'm of German descent so greetings from Georgia in the US!

Karl Kraus

I'm going with Karl Kraus. Could you atleast give a little info when you're gonna watch it. I mean if you're simply not feeling it at the moment, that's fine for me. But a little info would be great, for that i'm not hoping for every new release to be Star Wars and then get disappointed. Greetings from Germany guys - Love your reactions

LarsGrimm

I used to work in the video store business in the 90s and we had a manager who used to play this movie every day. EVERY DAY. I could recite the dialogue from the beginning to end. LOL But I actually like this movie and I’m so happy that you both watched it and enjoyed it. This movie has a great cast and it was really the beginning of Julia Roberts’s career. “Mystic Pizza” is another film of hers that I think you would really enjoy it.

Jeff Mills

This movie is great. My sister & Mom used to watch this when I was a teenager. I would make fun of them for it. Until one time I sat down with them and watched the movie. Me & my dad sat there trying to hold back the tears. JORDAN KNOWS! 😂😂 Please, Please watch WHALERIDER. For International Woman’s day. Which was yesterday but should be every day

Leonard

So glad you reacted to this movie. The cast gives great performances, and you finally got to see Dolly act 😊. But the funeral scene with Sally Field is what gets me EVERY time 😢. I love what you said Amber, about the movie being about womanhood, we are Steel Magnolias. Here are some suggestions for future movies. “Little Miss Sunshine” (great ensemble cast), “Minority Report” (one of my favorite sci-fi movies), “Goodfellas” (best mob movie IMO, by the great Martin Scorsese). “Pleasantville” (light enough comedy-drama that’s an easy watch).

Patty Estrada

You Laugh you cry in this movie. All are star studded . Sally Fields,Daryl Hannah Olympia Dukaks, Shirley McLean I adore her. Your a pig from Hell. Love you more than my luggage.I remember my Dad and my husband was crying with this movie. men I never seen much crying in life. It is a classic. I am so glad you watched it. You both need to get a living will done . So heaven forbid something puts you on life support they won't put you on it. It is your wishes. Steel the men left the mom stayed Mom's are made of steel women are made of steel. If you need some comedy relief Try Money Pit (Tom Hanks) The Burbs is funny too Tom Hanks. I really would love you to see some great horror classics Like The Birds ,Psycho both are from Hitchcock . Detroit Rock City is a funny one about teenagers trying to get to go see. Kiss. Great sound track .

Lisa Rhodes

Are you posting star wars episode l any time soon? I'm really anxious to see your reactions to the prequels
