Silver linings playbook

Joe toth

Where can we suggest movies? Because HAMILTON, watch Hamilton! You will BOTH love it!

Maya Bairey « SalvoSquad »

OMG! Your mention of Balto reminded me of the very best movie about a dog ever. Hachicko (2009). Based on a true story and so well done.

G Faith Owens EA

What "today's standards" are you even talking about? People will still be enjoying and studying these films when we're dead and gone.

BRT

What??

Michael Weiner

Lol how much you got?

Shawn McKenzie

Are you high?! These are all classics, timeless classics. C'mon man. I love new movies too, and by your comments, I would bet cash money that you haven't seen ANY one of these movies.

Thomas Raymond

Yes Rear Window!!!!!

Mary Alice

And Rockstar with Mark Wahlberg, great music on that movie.

Jennifer Sanchez

Oh! You need to watch Armageddon! Such a great movie

Jennifer Sanchez

None of those are very good by today’s standards- but I’d go with “The birds”

Shawn McKenzie

Further back .. you haven’t done “The wizard of Oz” guaranteed view getter

Shawn McKenzie

The Mask of Zorro is the first and The Legend of Zorro is 2nd

XRay24 Marinecrops

Frequency has some trippy twist and turns.

Christopher Puttre

All Amazing Cary Grant movies. Jay's Fear of Birds was why I chose it. Hey what are Friends for. LOL

Christopher Puttre

North by Northwest and Rear Window always flip flop for my top 2. High Anxiety, is a Hilarious, Mel Brooks Tribute to Hitchcock.

Christopher Puttre

Enter The Dragon, Nice suggestion. Though i would pick The Magnificent Seven, over the Wild Bunch, and the Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western Trilogy above them both.

Christopher Puttre

Hoosiers, and Slapshot. 2 great sports movies shown from to completely different perspectives LMAO

Christopher Puttre

I was shown this in middle school (some 40+ years ago), and Singing in the Rain became one of my favorite films. In college we went over the amazing way scenes were shot, and edited. Such an all around great movie.

Christopher Puttre

Thank you for giving Hitchcock a chance. Of Course i will choose The Birds just for Jay. Sorry Buddy sometimes you must Face you Fears. LOL Psycho is very good Though North by Northwest, and Rear Window are my 2 Favorite Hitchcock films. Fun Fact Alfred is one of the first Directors who made a cameo in all the starts of his films. Be it in an ad on the back of a paper someone is reading or his missing the bus as the doors shut on him. He will always be the Master of Suspense.

Christopher Puttre

I vote for Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. It's hilarious!!

The Abyss by James Cameron.

Michael Lynch

Some lighter and/or adventurous-type fare for consideration for breaks from the more intense, dark, or violent films: - Cocoon (1985) - Adventures in Babysitting (1987) - Batteries Not Included (1987) - Overboard (1987) - Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) - Willow (1988) - Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) - My Blue Heaven (1990) - Sister Act (1992) - Heart and Souls (1993) - True Lies (1994) - Liar, Liar (1997) - A Knight's Tale (2001)

EmberCello

If you're looking to do more horror movies I mean pretty good classic horror movies cult classics and stuff like that may I suggest Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1974 very good cult classic horror film.

jonathan .s

“Imitation of Life” would be a good one (the one with Lana Turner from 59). Also, Mildred Pierce.

Patty Estrada

Please react to Selena the movie

Stolzer Padre Reactions

Casablanca come on!

J-Rob

Psycho and Casablanca are both iconic must sees. The Birds? I've always thought it was corny. It's still a good movie. I'm not sure how many black and white movies you've seen, but they have an incredible style all their own. Pay attention to the lighting, in particular. It was often a stylistic choice to shoot in b&w, even if color was available (though color was more expensive film)

Jon

Hitchcock (Psycho and The Birds) is a Master of suspense and appears in all of his films. That being said, Casablanca first, then Hitchcock (I’d also recommend Notorious and Spellbound)!

Becky Koupparis

Thought yall didn't do scary movies only casablanca isn't a scary movie

Jason Register

All great choices!

Michael Weiner

He’s a better man than me if he can but I’m betting on tears.

Geoff Thomas

watch Casablanca then psycho, then the birds. Come on Casablanca you need to win this poll.

David Diesbourg

Great list Geoff!!!! Love every one of the ones you mentioned. I have to say.....I want to see if Jay can make it through Beaches.

FriarTom

It is definitely a classic film noir, it is also very boring. Casablanca, much like MASH years later, benefited tremendously from a dearth of choices. Neither would stand up today, though they did well in their time and are remembered well. I don’t want them to just see modern movies, but i do tend to lean toward movies that can still pull their own weight. There are quite a few good old movies that can do so better than Casablanca. “Sorry, Wrong Number” and “Imitation of Life” are just an example of some of the great old movies.

Connor Fallon

I think you might enjoy a good mystery (and somewhat rom-com) check out Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in "Charade". The plot twists and turns all the way through the ending. Another one with a "gotcha" ending is "No Way Out" starring Kevin Costner, The race against time is heart pounding. Best Car Chase to me is "Bullitt" Steve McQueen

Carolyn Phelan

Just a few recommendations: Action/Comedy: Bullet Train (Brad Pitt) - "who done it movie": Knives Out - Horror/Comedy: Tucker and Dale v. Evil - Quentin Tarantino (who is his own genre): Jackie Brown.

Kimberly Jenkins

I love Murder by Death. That said, unless you know all the movie detectives referenced, the humor will be lost on you. You would need to see "The Thin Man" "Maltese Falcon" "Charlie Chan" "Agatha Christie" and Hercule Poirot to truly get the humor. That is what makes it so hysterical. It's like when they watched "Airplane" without having seen "Airport".

Carolyn Phelan

Birds is a love or hate film. I know many who are terrified of birds because of it. Casablanca is a classic film noir. If you only want them to see more modern comedies or dramas they will be missing out on some great stuff. Both Clue and Blazing Saddles are great. Blazing Saddles is a tricky one in today's world. We were able laugh at ourselves back then. Mel Brooks is so inappropriate and so funny. Psycho is a 1960's classic. Again, not for everyone.

Carolyn Phelan

Love these picks. For the Rat Pack, I think Jay and Amber would have a ball with Robin and the Seven Hoods.

Barb Just Barb

Dark Crystal is a fav of mine. Love Ladyhawke. Escape from New York is surprisingly entertaining though I think it's considered a B movie? Lots of good B movies out there.

Kristin D

Frequency is a good movie!

Kristin D

Blazing Saddles is hysterically funny, one of Books' best. I'm hoping that they willl watch Young Frankenstein when Halloween comes back around.

Kristin D

Excellent suggestions. I would literally pay them (more) to watch Gladiator. Add to horror: Alien, and Aliens

Kristin D

Edge of Tomorrow was ALOT of fun. Also, with Tom Cruise, Oblivion.

Kristin D

Contact is a wonderful sci-fi flick that is not pew pew. It's really excellent. Jodie Foster is truly excellent in this. Some other non pew pew type sci-fi that I think they'd ejoy would be: Gattaca Arrival The Martian The Abyss @Stephanie Wahl, Good Will Hunting is brilliant and holds up really well. Robin Williams is so good in this, as is Matt Damon.

Kristin D

The Indiana Jones Franchise, especially the first three, are a lot of fun. The Guardians of the Galaxy, first movie, is a whole lot of fun. But once you dip your toe into the Marvel Universe, beyond that, I feel you gotta go all in to get the full experience, and there are 31. That's a big commitment, and not all the movies are great. So if you watched them like you did Star Wars or Harry Potter, you'll be watching these movies for almost a full year. There are other franchises, and TONS stand-alones, so many that you'd be busy for a decade. Personally I wish that you would not do the Marvel movies on your channel. BUT, it is YOUR channel, and it's a great one. A trilogy franchise that I would recommend if you want to get into the superheroes is Batman, the Dark Knight series with Christian Bale. They were really good. Serious and intense though.

Kristin D

I'm here for Casablanca friends. Another classic I really enjoyed but don't see named above is 12 Angry Men. Just know you have to accept that movies during this time period had little or no special effects and the pacing is so much slower that it really does feel like reading the books sometimes. You just have to be willing to embrace the story being told to be entertained. And to recommend a few movies from the 80s: Cocoon, 1985 - Mask, 1985 - 9 to 5, 1980 - The Dark Crystal, 1982, Splash, 1984 - Ladyhawke, 1985 - Hoosiers, 1986 and Escape From New York, 1981.

G Faith Owens EA

Of those three I'd try The Birds. Here's a lesser known film that deals with the 1969 World Series, father/son connection and can your life's destiny be changed. The movie is Frequency. I think you guys would love it.

James Starace

For your classic, I HIGHLY suggest Singin' In The Rain. If you haven't seen it, it's considered the greatest musical of all time. A couple of points on why it will surprise you...and Jay will like it. Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor deliver some of the greatest dancing sequences of all time. Gene Kelly was from a family of dancers, but also played football. He had an athletic and jaw dropping style that will have you mesmerized. The movie is essentially a comedy with a bunch of funny lines and memorable characters......and the songs are iconic. Since you liked Smokey and the Bandit so much, there are some early 80's comedy's that I know you will love.. Arthur: you did a reaction to Christopher Cross's Best That You Can Do, and picked up that it was from a movie. Filled with hysterical sarcasm, a great love story and the brilliant comedy of Dudley Moore. It's also, New York City, and I always see how much you enjoy the NYC vibe. 9 To 5: Dolly Parton's first movie and one of the great comedies of all time. A very serious topic...female workplace harassment and abusive bosses is flipped into a hysterical revenge comedy with a bunch of side splitting moments. Tootsie: Hysterical film with Dustin Hoffman playing a down and out actor and what he will do to get a job. A GREAT soundtrack by Stephen Bishop and Jessica Lange at her all time best.

FriarTom

I would have loved if The Birds won since J. Loves birds so much.

Wendy

Double Indemnity is a MUST see. Stanwyck is at her all time best.

FriarTom

Three great movies are 1. Arsenic and old lace 2. Murder by death a young miss mcgonagull from Harry Potter is in it n very pretty 3. Insidious

Dawn

My vote is for Casablanca because everyone should see that classic. I would also suggest another oldie classic, Key Largo. I would also recommend the Hunger Games Trilogy, which was 3 books, but 4 movies. It takes all 4 movies to tell the complete story. It's a sci-fi dystopia story made for young adults. I never thought I would like this story but I love these movies. They are at the top of my list for all time favorites. The books and movies both were so wildly popular that the author has now written a prequel book that's been turned into a movie that will be released this fall. I have since read the books and they are even better the the movies! Also recommend Hidden Figures and Apollo 13, based on true stories in our space program. 2 more of my favorites. Martian, which I also never thought I would like, but l really do. Have fun it guys with whatever you watch!!

Jayce

There are some great movies with people you already love from the music reaction channel. Just a few suggestions… Frank, Dean, Sammy the Rat Pack in the original and by far the best Ocean’s 11. Bette Midler comedy Down and Out in Beverly Hills, tear jerking drama Beaches. Barbra Streisand a hilarious screwball comedy Whats Up Doc features a great multi car chase through San Francisco. Sidney Poitier (not a singer but you guys did the song from To Sir With Love) that picture or Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner a true classic same for In The Heat of the Night. Arthur (again here the original not the crappy remake) is fun comedy (you reacted to theme song by Christopher Cross). Either of the Hitchcock movies in this poll but also excellent are Rear Window, or The Man Who Knew Too Much which stars Doris Day who’ve you’ve also done a couple great reactions to. And just to throw in a personal favorite Chinatown a great film noir starring Jack Nicholson.

Geoff Thomas

The birds is great, casablanca is very boring, even with rifftrax. Also the woman who plays a guitar in it can’t even pretend to play well. Lol. Also, you should check out Clue and Blazing Saddles. Im a huge comedy fan.

Connor Fallon

Great points! The MCU is a beast to tackle and they do all build upon each other. Amber and Jay would need to make a good long commitment of jumping in there but if they do, I would suggest to NOT watch in the order in which they were released but rather in the chronological order of the timeline, which will help you make waaaaay better sense of what is happening and when as well as references and easter eggs. I'm willing to take that journey with them for the sake of having them watch some of my favorites: Iron Man, Captain America: Winter Soldier (my #1 MCU), Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and GOTG: Volume 1!

Tracy Geier

Hulu just added it and I rewatched it last week. Such a fun movie!

Tracy Geier

Duck Soup!!! 😂

Tracy Geier

L.A. Confidential is a sometimes forgotten gem!

Tracy Geier

How did you talk Jay into even considering the movie Birds? He's going to hate it so much. I'm voting Casablanca to help him avoid it. It's good to get some classics in but I think you guys are going to be natural Cary Grant fans, with his delivery and acting style. Going to recommend Bringing Up Baby, An Affair to Remember, North by Northwest, To Catch a Thief, and The Bachelor and the Bobbysoxer for future consideration. To throw another random suggestion in, Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis (Jamie Lee Curtis's dad); it's got jivin' music and is so funny!

Tracy Geier

Yes, yes, and ... Yes.

David Patterson

Psycho is great because tv and movies have used a scene from this movie ever since. People my self included have done this scene and I know you and Jay will do it after seeing it . One of the best classic Hitchcock films in history. The Birds since Jay is Freaked out about birds will bring him more fear to him . There is the Zombie Kings late great George Romero's- NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD that brought the world of film Zombies .1968 film and shot for only 114,000. Romero , Tom Savini and John Russo made it a cult classic when it appeared in Oct. 1968 A genre that is still surviving today with movies and tv shows.

Lisa Rhodes

Agreed! I thoroughly enjoyed the sequel, Bladerunner 2049. That movie was, and is, still pure bliss for me. But I love the original even more.

Troy

Love Dead Poets and Good Will Hunting. Robin Williams is an amazing actor. I’d add The Fisher King to the list of his great movies too.

Stephanie Wahl

Blade Runner is a classic & so influential. It has great sequels too.

Stephanie Wahl

Sunset Boulevard is a great movie. Also love Eternal Subshine, Looper, Minority Report & L.A. Confidential. Good suggestions!

Stephanie Wahl

Some great sports movies: Million Dollar Baby (female boxing), Bad News Bears (kids baseball - watch the 70’s version it’s the original), Breaking Away (bicycle racing), Raging Bull (boxing)

Stephanie Wahl

And here we see the disadvantage that counters the advantage of an interconnected universe of stories. If you're in for a penny, you're in for the whole pound, and gotta watch this thing, then that thing, then another just to get what's going on in the thing you actually want to watch right now. Or at least many people think it's true. And I think it is becoming increasingly true of Marvel lately. But I also think if the film makers are doing a proper job of things, then they can make a movie that someone coming in fresh can understand and get invested in. It might not strike as deep as it does for someone who's been along for the whole ride, but if someone is lost in your movie because they didn't see another movie or TV show, then you're not doing a good job as a film maker. I think that is true for the best of Marvel movies, so I'm not convinced you gotta watch EVERYTHING to enjoy their best films. But it will likely deepen the experience.

Robert Greffey

I don’t think the Avengers movies really carry over into the first 2 Guardians movies, other than Thanos showing up. But, the first GOTG is where we really get to know him.

Peyton Royals

You're going to have trouble keeping up with Marvel if you start with Guardians the first one is halfway down the movie list for the story it's a part of you'd better watch Iron Man first and work your way down

Karl Kraus

Easy choice for me. As much as I like Alfred Hitchcock, you chose his two films I think are a little overrated. But I'm sure you'll get to Rear Window or Vertigo eventually. It's probably splitting the Hitchcock fan voting block. 🤔 But, I'm eager to check into Rick's Café Américain for a while anyway, so Casablanca for me. As for genre suggestions, thriller managed to pull out a second place in the last genre poll. Two good entries for that are Seven and/or The Usual Suspects, both from 1995. They seem popular with reaction channels, and anyone who's seen them can easily figure out why. Just like there's a reason The Sixth Sense ends up on just about every channel. 🤷‍♂️ As for individual movie suggestions, I'll plug one of my usual dark horse candidates. Look, some day, some reaction channel on YouTube is going to be the first to watch the Oscar nominated comedy The Full Monty. I think it should be you. 😁

Robert Greffey

Sorry, I didn't see the request for suggestions initially. My 3 would be The Marx Brothers Duck Soup, Enter The Dragon, and The Wild Bunch. All epics and all very different genres.

JL Green

My genre suggestions are these: Action - Speed, Indiana Jones 2 and 3, Back to the Future 2 and 3, The Mummy 1 and 2 (save for the month of October), The Scorpion King (prequel to the Mummy), War of the Worlds (Steven Spielberg film), Gladiator, Troy, Avatar, Independence Day (save this bad boy for July 4th or closest date) Adventure - Pirates of the Caribbean (1-3), National Treasure 1 and 2, Spy Kids 1 and 2, Hook (Steven Spielberg film about Peter Pan as an adult), Hidalgo (has Aragorn from Lord of the Rings and horses, based on a true story), Chronicles of Narnia movies (kids version of Middle Earth), Free Willy, Lassie, Flipper, Star Wars Episodes 7-9, Rogue One: A SW Story, The Indian in the Cupboard, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World Drama - Apollo 13 (Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, the cast is PACKED!), Braveheart, Schindler's List (I believe you're ready to view this powerful true story of the Holocaust), Boyz n the Hood, Cast Away (Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt), The Day after Tomorrow, Lorenzo's Oil (based on a true story, about a family's fight against a relatively unknown disease), Amistad (based on a true story, Steven Spielberg film), TITANIC, A Beautiful Mind, Good Will Hunting, Holes More classics - Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge over the River Kwai, the Searchers, North by Northwest, The Maltese Falcon, The Sound of Music Comedy - Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (Same director from Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, Cast Away) Horror - Signs (same director from the Sixth Sense) Thriller - Unbreakable (same director from Signs, Sixth Sense), Seven (save for October) Sports - The Rookie (Baseball, based on a true story), The Mighty Ducks trilogy, Major League, Miracle (true story about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team). The Natural (baseball), The Sandlot (baseball, A classic in our generation you guys!), Angels in the Outfield As you can see, the Rob Squad still has a LOT of work to do!

Karl Kraus

I absolutely love "Psycho," but "Casablanca" was made for you two. I hope you get to watch Psycho soon, but now is the time for one of the all time classic romantic movies!

JL Green

Film Noir might be a new genre you’d like to check out. There’s classic Film Noirs like “Laura” “Sunset Boulevard” “Double Indemnity” and “Chinatown” (with Jack Nicholson from The Shinning). And then there’s more modern Film Noirs, like “L.A Confidential” and “Memento” (with Carrie-Anne Moss who plays Trinity in The Matrix). And since it seems you enjoy a good Sci-Fi I’d suggest “Minority Report” “Looper” “Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind” and “Edge of Tomorrow” (for some action Sci-Fi).

Patty Estrada

All great classics! I went with Psycho. Some suggestions (I went overboard again): Sci-Fi: Bladerunner (The Final Cut version) Gattaca Dune (The new one from 2021) Ex Machina Midnight Special Drama: Spotlight Avalon Dig The Little Things Zodiac War: 1917 Dunkirk The Hurt Locker 12 Strong Full Metal Jacket Mystery: Dead Again Bridge of Spies Murder On the Orient Express (2017) Gone Girl The Girl With The Dragon Tatoo (2011) Action: Sicario Mad Max: Fury Road Extraction Gladiator (Director's Cut) The Gray Man Horror: The Thing (1982) Hereditary Overlord The Pale Blue Eye The Girl With All Of The Gifts Western: Silverado Hostiles Unforgiven The Hateful 8 The Revenant Sports: Slapshot Rush (Auto Racing movie) Moneyball Hoosiers The Fighter

Troy

We were not aware of that, so thank you! We are definitely ready to get back to Indiana though.

Jordan Robinson

The People Under the Stairs or Basket Case are both fantastic movies

Andrew Ramos

How about Rocky 3?

Crystal Moore

I watched "Casablanca" for the first time in college for an election course, "American History thru Film". Loved it❗🤩

Angela Warton

They’re both great! The Indy movies are CLASSICS and the GOTG movies are so much fun! Just know that you’ll need to watch Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame before watching GOTG 3.

Peyton Royals

Oohh this is a good but tough poll y’all! I’m going with Psycho though, to start with. I’m sure you’ll eventually get to Casablanca, which is a must see classic. However, you have to be introduced to the master of suspense. Plus, I think it’s a god starter for a classic black and white movie, especially if you’re not used to them.

Patty Estrada

Avery old movie that always leaves me rolling is “The Court Jester” starring Danny Kaye. I heartily recommend it along with any W C Fields, Three Stooges, Laurel and Hardy or Abbott and Costello movies. If you are looking for classic comedy that’s the way to go. On a more modern note, I recommend Titanic, The Martian, Apollo 13 and Galaxy Quest.

Wendy Doyle

Psycho!! All 3 are good, bur Psycho is something uniquely spwcial

J.Fro90

We were actually just talking about continuing that or starting Guardians of the Galaxy (considering recent releases) perhaps we can get y'alls opinion on that.

Jordan Robinson

Contact- Jodie Foster- Sci Fi- and Interesting debate between faith and science Singing in the Rain- Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds - Musical Mummy- Action- Brendan Fraser The Color Purple- Steven Spielberg Dead Poets Society- Good Will Hunting- mrs doubtfire- Robin Williams

Marie247Art

I was just thinking about that movie yesterday and thought they should definitely react to it.

Brian Moore

I’d love to see your reaction to That Thing You Do! It’s a fun movie about a music group trying to make it in the 60’s. Liv Tyler (Steven Tyler’s daughter) and Tom Hanks are in this movie.

Jennifer Sanchez

Casablanca! No question! 1000% positively the best choice! Amber will be satisfied since she's a sucker for romance and this movie is the poster for romance!

Karl Kraus

Casablanca is by far the best movie out of the 3

Joseph mastando

With the new and final Indiana Jones movie coming out this summer, will you guys be continuing the Indy saga soon?

Peyton Royals

Casablanca one of the best films of all-time.

Cody Price

Tough choice!!!
