FULL LENGTH PSYCHO (1960) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Our First black and white movie ever and man was it AWESOME! This fil turned out to be so darn good!

Comments

I love the classics. When it comes to building suspense, Alfred Hitchcock is the best. I couldn't remember if I'd seen this reaction with you all before or not. You all need to watch Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954). It is a little older, but it is in color. It is one of my favorite Hitchcock movies, and it stars the Great Jimmy Stewart, who you all saw in It's a Wonderful Life as George Bailey, with the beautiful Grace Kelly.

Eddie Perkins

I checked to see if you have done a reaction to The Exorcist, and don't find one. I bet it has been recommended many times, and if you want a truly memorable scare, it is the one to see. I saw it when it first came to theaters, back in the day, and it still makes me shiver, just thinking about it. Haven't been able to watch it a second time--it's that scary.

I am having a great time watching your reaction to this classic horror film. It caused a lot of people to swear off showering for life! Amber, you mentioned the Bates Motel TV show, and I highly recommend it. It is inspired by this movie and is so well done. As to why they are exiting the car on the passenger side, I don't know, but I remember those big cars having bench seats that you could easily slide across, if you wanted to. Maybe if was just for the movie?

My absolute fave of his films. Incredibly well crafted and visually stunning/beautiful...in between the horror....and again with all those great actors playing somewhat eccentric characters. The whole sequence of Melanie getting to Rod Taylor's house is just masterful, and an exercise in creating suspense and tension that isn't based on anything malevolent, until that moment it's broken.

Anthony Perkins was amazing in this movie, as Norman. The inspiration for Norman Bates (and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs) was a real-life psycho, Ed Gein. You can look it up if you like, but fair warning, it's creepy.

Jon

So Amber, the next Hitchcock movie you should react to is The Birds, since i know Jay does not like birds, this movie will really creep both of you out. this is Hitchcock at his best.

Jeff Anderson

Got to checkout 12 Angry Men (1957). A cinematic masterpiece.

Cody Price

Hey great reaction you guys so glad you liked it. Hitchcock is the master of suspense. You know a director has you when you suddenly realize your heart is racing and your breaking a sweat. If you like that edge of your seat feeling watch Hitchcock’s Rear Window next. Great acting (James Stewart and Grace Kelly) and the master lives up to his reputation as always. Or try The Man Who Knew Too Much with James Stewart and Doris Day who you’ve reacted to as a singer on your music channel.

Geoff Thomas

So excited you loved it!!! These movies are so great….no special effects, just a great script and incredible acting. Add Double Indemnity to your list……. Considered the greatest film noir movie of all time.

Hey guys. Im really starting to enjoy your reactions. This request is for Jay. You love baseball so you should watch " The Natural". Great feel good movie starring Robert Redford. I know both of you w love this movie

Tom Wilkinson

Update: Just finished watching the whole reaction and I absolutely loved it! I knew Amber would be into it, but watching Jordan’s reaction and the way he got deeper and deeper into the movie, was so satisfying. Now you see why they call Hitchcock “The Master of Suspense”. Amber, you’re right “Bates Motel” is a tv series. It’s a prequel about the life of Norman and his mom before the events of Psycho. You should watch “Vertigo” for the next Hitchcock film.

Patty Estrada

I love that Amber is throwing out the slasher move before the movie even starts then later says "slasher vibe" before it even gets that far. What a great reaction! Fun Fact: Marion is played by Jamie Lee Curtis's mother, Janet Leigh. I can't wait to see you guys react to the Hunger Games Triolgy. It's 4 movies to tell the whole story. I'm ready for Casablanca too!

Jayce

If you liked this you should check another black and white film called "Bad Seed". About a psychotic little girl.

once you start including black and white films in your library, you'll see all of the greats in the era as we head into colored movies: Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart (in Casablanca, the Maltese Falcon), Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Katharine Hepburn, Clark Gable etc. once you see each for the first time, you'll want to see them again acting was an art to these pros it was a different taste movies in this time were like theater for the screen they were elegant and charismatic i've come to love B&W movies in that regard

Karl Kraus

I love black and white films! Especially "Film Noir" which takes advantage of the B&W to emphasize shadows and patterns. I also love Alfred Hitchcock films. The point early on where you guys were wondering if the one actor was Hitchcock in a cameo....you actually had already missed him. He never plays as a character with lines, just makes an appearance, sometimes not even in the flesh! He makes an appearance in 40 of his 54 surviving major films, so it's a great game trying to catch him. My other faves are "Rebecca" also B&W from 1940 , "Rear Window" from 1954 which predates "Psycho" but was filmed in color, "The Birds"(my FAVE!) from 1963, and "Frenzy" from 1972. I also like "Strangers on a Train" 1951 and Dial M for Murder"1954, but they may seem a little slow unless you are really getting into his work. What keeps me coming back to his films is how he counterpoints the darkness and suspense with actors who have a lot of character and slips in some very clever humor, and it's always visually stunning and incredibly well edited.

Please watch casablanca I think you'll like it better.

David Diesbourg

Nice, I’m about to watch this now. I really hoped you liked 1) a black and white movie, and 2) Alfred Hitchcock’s work. If you did check out “Vertigo” and “Rebecca”. Some more black and white movies that might also hold your interest, “Mildred Pierce” “Sunset Boulevard” and “Laura” all which have a film noir theme to them (which I think you’d like). Also, Janet Leigh (who plays Marion) is Jamie Lee Curtis’s mom (with actor Tony Curtis, who comes out in “Some Like It Hot” which is a black and white crime comedy with Marilyn Monroe)

Patty Estrada

Since you like black and white movies, double back and do Casablanca, the second place winner from the poll
