I think you meant Marian (who is played by Janet Leigh) is Jamie Lee Curtis' mom.

Michael Weiner

Sybil is a phenomenal film, Sally Field was epic. Awesome choice. Peace

Such a great film. I love classic horror. Alfred Hitchcock did amazing psychological horror. Another great one is "The Birds" (which has a lot more action) love the film noir style, the black and white, done with film techniques that with out gore got the message thru, how the camera shots and music heighten the anxiety. No monsters or creatures needed. Oh and fun fact Hitchcock always made cameos in his films could be someone on street or his face on a newspaper. Here hes seen 6 mins in when Janet comes into the office he is standing outside with cowboy hat on. I always loved trying to find him in his films. Also Janet is played by Jamie Lee Curtis' mom. Thanx so much, take care, keep smilin' Peace

I am so happy you did some classic beware of taking showers now because one of you will be trying the shower scene scare. Michael Myers is the one with Jamie Liegh Curtis , Janet Leigh is her Mom. Hitchock is in every movie made. So many producers do this now. Leigh was the official scream queen and the reason why this effects so many people still is the normal .It was a tv series based on this movie they have Bates Motel at Universal Studios. They used chocolate syrup for blood . Hitchcock was a master of bomb under the table type thing suspense. You Must do The Birds Jay . These classics still freak people out and that is what makes a great movie. You want something funny do Money Pitt with Tom Hanks . For May the fourth please do SPACEBALLS. VERY FUNNY!

Agree. I came here to comment the same about Sybil / Sally Field. I saw the 1976 made-for-TV 2-part series/movie when a teenager and certain scenes continue to stick with me to this day... probably because it's based on a true story, but definitely because of the excellent acting (I think Sally won an Emmy for the role).

If you want to explore another movie about split personalities I always get a little creeped out about Sybil (1976), it's another chance to see Sally Field shine.

I've always liked Rear Window better than Psycho so i agree that would be a great watch.

For me, the Hitchcock masterpieces are Rear Window, North by Northwest, and Vertigo. Not sure I could pick just one as a favorite. But even his B-game is better than most, and enjoy old school stuff like The Lady Vanishes, or the classic Dial M for Murder. Every now and then at work, To Catch a Thief comes around for servicing, and I often end up taking a little extra time with the QC just because it's a fun little movie.

This is the second film you've done (the first being Silence of the Lambs) that takes great inspiration from real life serial killer Ed Gein, who also had severe mommy and murder issues. Psycho came out just a few years after he became national news. I've never understood black and white photography as some sort of challenge to overcome from you youngin's. Silent film? Yeah, but b&w? Meh. Guess I'm just an old fart. Welcome to the world of monochrome film! For many years, the decision to shoot a film in black & white vs. color tended to be a budgetary one. Black and white was cheaper for most of that time. Eventually color got cheaper, and because b&w is done so rarely, it's actually more expensive to shoot in it now. If shooting for b&w now, people usually shoot in color and process it in post. But it also opens up photographic possibilities with light and shadow and negative space in the frame and stuff. Classic film noir made great use of such things, and I just can't imagine the photographic choices of something like Citizen Kane working in color. Sometimes even modern filmmakers have chosen it (Ed Wood, Schindler's List, Nebraska are ones off the top of my head.) Alfred Hitchcock is a master of suspense. Psycho became the prototype for future slasher movies, and may be his most famous. For that, a lot of folks think of him as a horror director, but really he did very little of that, and is more about thrillers and mysteries. He hooks you in and keeps you guessing what will happen next, and routinely surprises you. It's hard to choose just one for you next Hitchcock, but if I had to, I might pick Rear Window. So much tension in a simple story of a wheelchair bound man spying on the neighborhood.

I would not have «Lifeboat» on my Top 10 list of Hitchcock, but not that far away from it either. Hitchcock was such and experimental movie director, and the condition to the actors for beeing able to film all these scenes in a a tank was really difficult decades before James Cameron`s demanding shoots in «Titanic». For continuity, conditions had to be recreated and the shot reset for each take, so with mistakes while filming, it wasn`t as easy as rolling the cameras again while the lines were repeated. Well deserved oscarnominations for best Cinematography, Black and White, best original story, and of course best director. The fact that Hitchcock never won best Director is unforgivable, but the same goes for Stanley Kubrick, so what can you say? «Lifeboat» is one of his most overlooked movies in the sense that it`s not included on the different dvd and blu-ray collections available for sale. It can be understandable by not beeing one of his most famous movies, but also remember that it`s the only movie he made for Twentieth Century Fox, so naturally it`s not included in either a british box set before his first American film, «Rebecca» (1940) or an Universal Collection where most of his movies are made. I personally like very much movies with just a few actors in scenes mostly happening in the same place through a large part of a movie as long as the script is good. And here that is the case, written by a master of American litterature, John Steinbeck, all though requested by the Master of Suspence, Hitchcock himself who came up with the original story. I do prefer Hitchcock`s «Rope» better with even fewer actors with story based in a room shot in only 10 combined takes. So much I could say about that movie, and the experiental genius of «Hitch». Anyways, my request for Jay and Amber would still be «Rear Window» that also has got this similar theme of making suspense where everything is happening in pretty much the same place. What a masterpiece it is! «Lifeboat» might be a little slow in the beginning before we finally see a clever cameo of Hitchcock ¼ into the movie since there was no place for him to actually turning up in that lifeboat. Of course, he usually did his cameo`s early in his movies, so the audience shouldn`t keep searching for it so much through most of the movie. I would recommend movie adaptations of Agatha Christie classics to Jay and Amber as well! «Ten little Indians» aka. «And then there where None» reminds abit of what «Lifeboat» in the first part of the movie could have turned out. Of course «The Death on the Nile» is also on a «boat», and my favorite suggestion would be on a train in «The Muder of the Orient Express». If anyone here enjoys great movies with very few people on screen where almost the entire movie is in one room I`ll choose «Sleuth» (1972) where Sir Lawerence Oliver and Sir Michael Caine keeps the movie going with amazing acting and dialouges. But enough of that. I`ll need a «Lifeboat» myself here to save me from going overboard here. Simply put. I recommend «Lifeboat» to anyone who can get the chance to see it. It`s available to stream at Hoopla, but for those who don`t have that access can buy it from apple at $9.99. I still have my Laserdisc of it that I bought in the 90`s.

I totally understand why you want Jay to see The Birds since he has told us he is terrified of them. Because of this the reaction would be more entertaing than choosing a better Hitchock movie. So all though I do think The Birds is a little overrated, and I don`t have it on my Top 10 by Hitchcock, but sure... I have it between top 3 to top 5 for my Hitchock suggestions, since I would like to see Jay react to it too! So okay. I don`t mind taking The Birds after Rear Window as long as we get North by Northwest and Vertigo in the near future as well ...

Endre Snildal

Yes. Rear Window is amazing. Hitchcock is less horror, movie, and more suspense. And it’s amazing how his mind works. I watched a short feature on a story he created about a woman who killed her husband with a leg of lamb that was frozen. When the cop came to interview her, she cooked it and served it to him for dinner. That’s the way is mine works. But yeah rear window is amazing! Another famous movie that is all Hitchcock is vertigo and also one called the birds. You can drive up to the small town in California and see some of the buildings that was in the movie. The birds. You can’t go wrong with Hitchcock.

Mary Alice

Yes there is a show called "Bates Motel" . .it shows the story of a young Norman and his (still alive) mother, right when they first purchase the motel.

When looking for Hitchcock at the start of movies it is always a quick cameo. he never speaks, but because of his unique appearance he is hard to miss. He is a Portly, Bald Gentleman with very distinct jowls. He can be seen in a Newspaper add on a paper being read, Walking 2 dogs, and missing a bus; to name a few. His Catalog does not only include movies. he had a successful TV series called Alfred Hitchcock Presents, though I don't beleive he directed any; he could be considered the inspiration for the Crypt Keeper on HBO Tales from the Crypt. I agree with Endre Rear Window would be a good choice for next. Though I can't wait for Jay to see The Birds.

Christopher Puttre

As one of few I can ask this of. What do you think of Lifeboat?

Christopher Puttre

Oh I love that movie too!

Jayce

I love that you finally have started to watch Hitchcock, my favorite director of all time! As a young film student in the 90`s I made sure to have seen all the 53 movies he directed. I`ve been writing about movies for many years, and only James Bond have I written more about that his movies. So instead of going crazy here and write for hours about Hitchcock, I`ll make this very simple for you. Instead of beeing tempted of going for the sequels of "Psycho", there is no hurry in that. Okay to see them later, but much better to choose other movies that is made by Hitchcock. So many good ones to choose from. If I only should mentioned one right now, I would go for "Rear Window" next. To be continued ...

Endre Snildal

I really like "Rounders" too. I still feel there are a few other movies by those actors I truly wish more a reaction from that partiular "Rounders" though: Matt Damon: "Good Will Hunting" (Definitely my first pick by him with Robin Williams , all though it would be great to see him in "Finding Forrester" as well in a small role with Sean Connery. Both these movies is kinda similiar with some sort of a prodigy for books, and as school teachers Jay and Amber will love both these movies). Edward Norton: "Fight Club" is my favorite, but "Primar Fear" is a hidden gem I hope for very much! Of course, "American History X" is a classic, and all of these would I prefer before finally choosing "Rounders" which I also recommend myself by the way. John Malcovich: Personal favorite is "Beeing John Malcovic", but I have noe problem understanding that for suggestion to Jay and Amber for Malcovich movies I more likely to go for recommending "In the line of fire" and "Con Air". That said, hoping for "Rounders" as well in not too many months time.

Endre Snildal

I`m keep adding my love for Frailty too! Looking so much forward to a reaction to it.

Endre Snildal

Gotta check out psycho 2 leads up a couple years after this one.

jonathan .s

The phones worked by sending clicks (called pulses) so a three gives 3 clicks...

Alfred Hitchcock, you really can't go wrong with him. He did black and white movies and also color. I highly recommend Rear Window. It's a great suspenseful movie with the amazing Jimmy Stewart and the beautiful Grace Kelly.

Kristin D

Rounders is a great movie. I haven't seen it in a long time!

Kristin D

The movie Frailty has a Hitchcock style to. It’s about a single dad who comes home late one night and tells his boys he’s received a mission from God… to kill demons. What you have to figure out is, is the dad crazy or has he truest been touched by god. A very underrated movie imo. Starring Bill Paxton from Twister. Please watch.

Kevin

Hey guys! I got a favor to ask you I have a birthday in exactly 3 weeks, 3 film Fridays, on May 5 and I turn 29, around the same age as at least Jay! I would love to have a birthday shoutout from you during the intro in the YouTube edit of the movie you're going to record and post for that film Friday it would so awesome if you do because I've come to see you as a second family since we're the same age and I love you very much Please think it over 🙏

Karl Kraus

Brilliant writing and directing. For it’s time this was cutting edge, and yes 60 years later it’s still being done. Amber the show you were talking about Bates Motel is based off this. Also amazing is the fact you both didn’t even realize that in the beginning you did the “Psycho stab” without actually realizing that this was where that motion started. Another great reaction guys. You should watch “Rounders” 1998 Matt Daemon, Edward Norton, John Malcovich. Movie about friendship life choices and poker.

Matt Brodzinski

I second this!!! Based on Homer Hickam's memoir "Rocket Boys" telling the story of his and his friends' experiments with rockets during high school in the mining town of Coalwood, WV.

Joanie Archetto

For an upcoming reaction, I would highly recommend "October Sky".
