Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm sure they'll get to Gladiator long before most of the movies I pitch with great regularity. Though after finding out Amber watches Snapped and true crime shows, I may finally have the angle to better plug Amadeus. It's a movie about a guy named Antonio who SNAPS! I've been selling the Mozart and music, and totally underselling the murder. 🤔

Gladiator is one of my top 5 movies that I wish they would watch. But I feel like I've mentioned Gladiator so many times, that they are now not wanting to watch it, like it's been hyped it up so much that it just can't live up to it. :D
I'd love to see them also stretch their wings a bit, maybe watch Inglorious Basterds (Tarantino) and Gattaca (Andrew Niccol, who also did Lord of War and the Truman Show). Alien would be great too (Scott). Another Scott movie specifically that I would like is The Martian.

I still wish you would do A Knight's Tale or Fried Green Tomatoes. Comedy and drama, with an actual good storyline. You've done many in the past and enjoyed them... Forrest Gump, all the Hobbit/Ring stories, Harry Potter, etc. I know you'd love these two also. I've been suggesting them for close to a year now lol PLEASE! ;)

Wow. Between this and Fargo, April's become Coen Bros. month. Which is not bad thing. I like this film alright, but I've never gotten the deep LOVE it garners among some. It's probably the stoner angle. But good fun. Personally, for Coen Bros. comedy, I'm all about the Raising Arizona, a film I've recommended before, and I've seen recommended above. So just watch it, already! 😁
You may know John Goodman as Sully, but as an 80's kid, I knew him as the affable and loving husband and father on Rosanne. Then the Coen Bros. made Barton Fink where I learned the guy could put on some creepy dangerous vibes when he needs to. Never thought I'd find the dad from Rosanne scary. He's also quite menacing in the more recent 10 Cloverfield Lane. I mean, he's scary in this movie too, just more because he's reckless and stupid.
I've seen you pick movies because of the star on screen before. But other than Alfred Hitchcock, I'm not sure I've ever heard you guys call out the director and/or writer of a movie as a deciding factor in choosing to watch a film. Maybe I'm wrong and missed it along the way somewhere. Or maybe you have and didn't mention it. But, it warms this cinephile's heart.
Also, the Hollywood studio marketing crews just LOVE that there are guys like Jay who actually pay attention to studio logos and branding. They tend to confuse brand recognition with brand loyalty or think recognition will lead to loyalty. Which I think is misguided. But the few I've actually encountered can be hard to convince otherwise. Or maybe because it's their job, they refuse to acknowledge that it's somewhat irrelevant since people love Batman, John Wick, and Minions, and will go to see a Batman, John Wick or Minions movie no matter who actually produced or distributes it. Warner Bros.? MGM? Sony? Universal? They don't care. But the studios sure wish they did.
You've hit some pretty iconic directors, like Steven Spielberg, Stanley Kubrick, Rob Reiner, and now Alfred Hitchcock and the Coen Bros. I wouldn't mind seeing you checking out other directors who've managed to make themselves into household names, like Ridley Scott, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, or Francis Ford Coppola. Heck it might be fun to poll by director and their works sometime. Like the Ridley Scott - Alien v. Blade Runner v. Gladiator - poll or something. I have a feeling Gladiator would win that one...

Jeff bridges is a great actor. There is a Sci-fi movie called Starman with Karen Allen who co-started with Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Starman is a thoughtful and heartfelt movie, I think you both would like it.
Yes, John Goodman is Sully. He’s also in two other Coen Brothers movies, Raising Arizona (with Nicolas cage and Holly Hunter) and O’ Brother Where Art Thou (with George Clooney and Holly Hunter). Both are great and funny movies.

Yes that is the great John Goodmen (who also voiced Sully in monster inc. ) This is such a cult classic and white Russians spiked after this movie. Must try them if you haven't. The Dude. I hope you get to The Money Pit with Tom Hanks or Air Heads with Steve Buciemi , Adam Sandler and Brandon Frasier. There is also The Mummy series .

Also, a fun fact that I find endlessly amusing. The original Powerpuff Girls cartoon recreated the "A strong man can cry," fireplace scene in one of its episodes.

Fun movie. It was already a cult classic when I first saw it. Some friends took me to see it at a special midnight showing at a small local theater. It was definitely an experience.

The Coen brothers always take the viewer on a crazy ride with great characters. Raising Arizona, No Country for Old Men, & Barton Fink are some more great movies from them. Barton Fink is a bit of an underrated masterpiece imho.
