LOL She did a lot of things in the book she doesn't do in the film. This is one of a handful of books from King where I like the movie better than the book, but it has nothing to do with Annie Wilks's character. I like both the book's and Kathy Bates's portrayal of her. It has to do with Paul Sheldon. I love James's Caan's portrayal of him, but he's made a lot more likable in the movie. I'm not a fan of the book's version of him.

2023-05-20 02:10:38 +0000 UTCWhat a fabulous reaction, Amber and Jay. Just like I knew it would be. Every time you guys mentioned how lucky Paul was that Annie rescued him, or how sweet she seemed, I chuckled. So many people think that at the start, and it's always funny. I couldn't wait for you to see the movie take such a dark turn. I believe the TV show Annie was watching is called Love Connection. A few fun (or not to fun) facts about this movie. Novril is not a real medication, but something Stephen King made up for the book and was put into the movie. In universe, however, it's a real pain pill that is odorless and tasteless. Throughout the book and the movie both, Annie got Paul addicted to the Novril. That's why he stopped taking them. He was weaning himself off them. Later in the movie, when he opens one pill and tastes and then smells the powder, he was checking to make sure Annie wouldn't smell or taste it when he used it to drug her. One thing I think you may have missed. When Buster comes to Annie's house investigating Paul's disappearance and she gives him that story about how God spoke to her and told her she was to take Paul's place, she wasn't just being crazy again. Annie doesn't really think God talks to her or that she's supposed to become the next Paul Sheldon. In the scene, she tells the sheriff that when God told her this, she went out and bought a typewriter and the same paper Paul Sheldon uses, then she built a writing studio. She knew Buster would have found out she bought those things, and so she told him that story so as to provide a plausible explanation as to why. In the book, during his captivity, the typewriter Paul's using loses an n (Annie mentions the missing n in the film), then throws its r. When Paul complains about it, she cuts off his thumb. On his birthday, she bakes him a cake and puts candles on it, including one "special" candle. The special candle is Paul's thumb. You're welcome. :D

2023-05-18 02:10:12 +0000 UTCIn the book she used an axe instead of a sledgehammer. There came a point in reading the book that I had to put it down and go away, very disturbing. I never watched the movie.

2023-05-16 03:48:52 +0000 UTCI tell you what....when this played in the theater, the point when she busted his ankle everyone in that theater screamed at the top of their lungs. THEN, when she busted the other one there were people crawling over seats and running in the aisles🤪 This was Kathy Bates' Hollywood breakout role and she won her only Academy Award for the performance. She's done so many other great roles, including one based on another Stephen King Novel, "Delores Claiborne". It's also an excellent film and I think her performance as the protagonist is even better, but one of the elements is so troubling I think that it held the film back from winning any awards.

2023-05-14 23:00:22 +0000 UTCHappy Mother’s Day Amber! Happy Mother’s Day to all the RSR family mommas. Also, great movie choice. For another Stephen King adaptation that stars Kathy Bathes, check out “Dolores Clairborne”. For Kathy Bates movies in general there’s “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Titanic”. For an action thriller full of suspense, check out “Crimson Tide” starring Denzel Washington and Gene Hackman in lead roles.
