EARLY ACCESS Hacksaw Ridge (2016) First Time Watching | MOVIE REACTION

My grandfather was a pilot in WWII and was shot down over Germany. He spent 2 years in a German POW camp. He never spoke of what happened there, but he was a different man when he came home. The PTSD was real, and everyone suffered for it, especially him. I appreciate and respect our soldiers for everything that they are willing to do on my behalf. I pray that one day the human race will outgrow it's desire for war, and remake itself in peace. Glad to hear that you have seen Dodgeball, that is a really funny movie, and it is strange seeing Vaughn in a more serious role. It was also nice to see Sam Worthington in something that got some notoriety after doing Avatar.

We were soldiers is another good one

Gretta S.

That is a good point a few concepts like that could apply here all equally as deep war can be like that

Karl Kraus

This concept is more pervasive than just Japanese culture. The idea that a leader who failed in battle would/should "fall on his sword" is found in other cultures as well.

David Guin

the japanese man who was decapitated was given "a warrior's death" based on their culture i believe it's called seppuku it goes back for centuries, to the days of the samurai i've come to respect and love japanese culture so that's a really honorable way to die rather than an act of a coward

Love Braveheart. I hope they watch it some time. Yes, a fair amount of artistic license, but still rooted enough in truth. I saw this 4 times in the theater, and was my favorite movie for a long time until Gladiator came out, which I hope they will watch as well.

It's a good thing you saw this, it just proves that you love war movies (especially with a love story subplot for Amber), even though they are hard to watch Glory and SPR were some of the most difficult movies to view for me, just like you Mel Gibson pulled no punches when he directed this he's one of the most realistic filmmakers out there he made Braveheart, another true story (with plenty of artistic license) I stand by my vote though I hope you'll backtrack one day and watch Black Hawk Down Desmond's dad was played by agent Smith (Hugo weaving) but also elrond the elf from the lord of the rings

Karl Kraus

An amazing story made even more amazing since it's based on a true story.

JL Green

I knew you two would love this movie! The actor playing Doss (Andrew Garfield) was the second Spider Man. He is a fantastic actor who seems to be able to do anything including music. You need to see Tick, Tick, Boom. He was nominated for his role as Jonathan Larson who wrote Rent. Great movie. He was also in Breathe and the Social Network.

These kind of movies make me sad and mad one most veterans do not share their stories of the terror they had to endure . Then these movies make them and their loved ones have to recount their experience all over. Sorry I had family who fought in several wars and most never discussed their encounters. The families don't discuss it because not only those who fought Wars do have PTSD. Many scenes can bring on flashbacks of fear. A mother losing her son a wife a husband and so on. So honor them on Memorial Day by saluting them and lighting a candle for those who still suffer and those who have passed.
