EARLY ACCESS YT EDIT MONTY PYTHON AND THE LIFE OF BRIAN REACTION

I wasn't talking about the lack of subtext in these movies that's abundant, in this series and absolutely in blazing saddles I'm saying satires aren't necessarily comfortable viewings the dry humor is not for everybody, so in case one doesn't like it, they shouldn't record themselves being so confused it's just not fun to look at there is such a thing as grimaced laughter this comedy troupe's content needs to be viewed in private, that's all I'm saying

Karl Kraus

Well, gents, there's arguments and then there's civil and polite debate, and the above all fits that catagory, IMHO. So, I don't think anyone needs to apologize for having their own individual opinions and tastes. It's okay if we don't all like the same things. I'll probably catch some heat bad-mouthing Quentin Tarantino when we get around to some of his flicks, but anyone who's going to let my dumb negative opinion ruin their enjoyment of something they like is the one with a problem. Some people don't like ice cream, puppies or The Beatles, or various other things you would think everyone should. As my mom used to tell me, "Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one, and they all stink." I do sympathize with Karl's opinion overall about the class of comedy movie where the plot is more or less just a framework to hang gags and sketches on. I can get some chuckles out of Airplane or Naked Gun movies, or the works of Mel Brooks. But they never tend to be among my favorite flicks or reach me on the same levels that a comedy driven by narrative and/or characters. I like Python's sense of humor, and they're a sketch comedy troupe, so I'm a bit more forgiving in their case. But it can be frustrating when presented with something like the endings to Monty Python and the The Holy Grail", or Mel Brook's "Blazing Saddles" with a 4th wall breaking non-ending to the story that doesn't resolve anything, and signals that the plot never actually mattered. I will disagree that this movie's is abrupt or non-sensical like the non-endings I mention above. This seemed like an actual ending that underscored points trying to be made by the satire laid out in the rest of the film. Perhaps you don't find it satisfying, but I do find it an actual conclusion to the rather loosely constructed narrative. I'd also disagree that films like this are lacking meaning. Even though the actual plot driving Blazing Saddles ends up not mattering because of a non-ending, it's still a film that has plenty of insightful things to say about race and American history. I think this film also has some worthwhile commentary on religion, politics, doers vs. talkers, and various other aspects of the human condition. Satire does not necessarily require a strong narrative to be effective. It tends to work better for me, but it is hardly the only way to make your points.

I think there's been a mix up! When I said you guys gotta see the full Monty, I meant you should watch the 1997 British comedy named “The Full Monty”. Instead, it seems you watched the Monty Python film where we get a full frontal of Graham Chapman's... er... full Monty. I can see how you mighta gotten confused. 😉 I think an adequate descriptor you're looking for to catagorize the Monty Python style of comedy might be “absurdist”. They just come out of left field and often get a bit surreal. I think Jay has the right idea, and you just gotta lean into it and resign yourself to the absurdity of it all. I think perhaps the gags and sketches were better in The Holy Grail, but on the other hand, I think this movie actually manages to come up with a real narrative with a plot that matters. Some scathing satire too about people who like to talk about problems but would rather feel important passing resolutions and making grand speeches than actually doing anything about it. Oh, and the detour into outter space? This movie came out just two years after Star Wars, and everyone but everyone was trying to cash in on the craze. Imitators and cheap knockoffs filled the theaters in the years that followed. I think that gag was very much of it's time and a jab at that whole phenomenon of every movie assuming a little sci-fi action would lead to box office gold. If you'd like to see some of the Python crew outside of Monty Python, it may be worth checking out the comedy “A Fish Called Wanda” (1988) with John Cleese and Michael Palin starring opposite the great Jamie Lee Curtis. Also, since I did mention The Full Monty, it's still not too late to be the first people on YouTube to react to that comedy gem. Nominated for a Best Picture Oscar, adapted into a Broadway musical , and despite being about everyday blokes becoming male strippers, less full frontal nudity to edit around than this movie. Also, some great opportunities for some music channel tie-ins.

I have a theory that I call “The Pizza Theory”. It is my belief that if you have 10 people in a room together and ask them what pizza they want, you’ll probably get ten different answers. Some people prefer pepperoni. Some people prefer cheese. Some people prefer meat lovers. My point is that we all have different tastes. We might try something for the first time and we’re either going to like it or not. Amber and Jay are at least willing to give movies and songs a try and sometimes they’re going to like some more than others. We all have different tastes. It doesn’t make us wrong. And now I’m craving pizza for some reason. 😉

I apologize if I come across that way but... it's just a movie that a reactor channel shouldn't view, especially one that has a couple who's MY age it's one that needs to be given a try in private Amber's face and outrage really made me feel uncomfortable Jordan didn't show anything like that but I know deep inside he felt the same It'll hurt their views for the movie, if they even care about those figures, thereby hurting them on future reaction channels it's a slippery slope This may have worked when it first got released but times have changed and this series had controversy from the jump even back then for a variety of reasons so, I for one, respectfully hope they won't watch anymore of it In fact, Amber told me herself that nonsensical movies won't be visited again for the time being She and Jordan are teachers they want, as well as need, movies that give them a sense of finality instead of a brick wall that they crash into in the end, all they have are the quips in the script that's just not enough Again, if I offended folks who enjoy this, I'm sorry but this isn't for me and deep down, they know it too Have a good week 🖐👍

Karl Kraus

I'm not here to start an argument, but I take issue with the statement, "That's not what movies are about they're supposed to mean something." I appreciate the strength of your opinion here, because, as you say, Monty Python isn't for everyone. However, your opinion is just that, your opinion. You don't have the right to decide for everyone else what a movie should or shouldn't be. If you don't like something, that's perfectly fine, but your hostile and condescending attitude toward everyone who might enjoy this is not.

Brian

Agreed. Monty Python, to me is very funny and silly, but it's not for everyone. But I appreciate they are willing to try it.

Kristin D

I would suggest this one next as well.

I applaud them for trying something off beat like this. It may not be for everyone taste but at one time Monty Python was a very big thing on television in the UK and US and then in movies. Movies are supposed to entertain in the end. Some have deep even hidden meanings and some are just fun. I for one do not get the obsession with the Star Wars franchise. The original movie was great and the next two as well but seriously Disney has reduced it to a money printing tool. Very few great pieces of cinema have numbers after the title especially not numbers like 7,8,9. That’s a serial a soap opera. And that’s fine soap operas have entertained millions for decades. The thing I admire about Jay and Amber is they are willing to try off beat choices that’s what made them by far the best music reaction channel and I hope they keep enjoying Star Wars but continue to delve into other genres and especially some of the all time great films produced before the 80s.

Geoff Thomas

you haven't asked a question like "That's how it ends?!?" since you watched the Fellowship of the Ring last year only this time, there's no good reason for the abrupt nature of an ending like this i'm 29 years old so I don't understand the appeal of these movies but all I do know is that they are an acquired taste they may have quirky one-liners that'll stick with you for a month or so but that's not what movies are about they're supposed to MEAN something to the viewer all there is for this series is just slapstick, unbounded comedy these are just feature-length skits with no discernible purpose of value I want to see Jordan and Amber feel good about a movie when it's over, not confused they deserve not to have their intelligence be insulted But hey, all of you who eat this up, by all means, enjoy the reaction

Karl Kraus

Love “Monty Python”. Fun fact: George Harrison helped put the money towards this film. He was great friends with Eric Idle. If Harrison hadn’t done that, the film likely wouldn’t have been completed.

Jeff Mills

This Friday June the 9th will be the icon Johnny Depp's 60th birthday please do Secret Window . You will both love it.

Lisa Rhodes

I’d love to see your reaction to Monty Python The Meaning of Life

Thomas Horton
