THE KARATE KID (1984) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Comments

I hope your emergency is resolved itself or is at least on the mend. Never fun, I've had my fair share of them this year. Loved your reaction. Karate kid is good story, great characters, though I agree with Amber that it's a bit of an abrupt ending. Ralph Macchio is also in a movie called the Outsiders. It's about two rival gangs in Oklahoma. I think it's set in the 60s. It's a somber movie, but excellent, and also has quite a star studded cast, including Patrick Swayze (Ghost) and Tom Cruise.

I hope everything and everyone are well. Family always comes first!!

I love Word War Z. As zombie movies go, I think it’s one of the best.

Janell

"Berry Gordy`s `The Last Dragon(1985)'!!!"

Bridget

Jordan and I are terrified of birds I wish he would do Hitchcock The Birds since they liked Psycho. I think Secret Window( Johnny Depp ) would be perfect for them. If they ever get the courage to watch a zombie one ofcourse Night of the Living Dead and a good one would be World War Z To Start With. Then Shaun Of The Dead.Tucker and Dale vrs. Evil is so funny but they wouldn't get half of the references. I laughed through the whole movie.

I just looked it up and "You're the Best" by Joe "Bean" Esposito is on Tidal right now. The song is hard to find due to copyright issues, so I was happy to find it as I've been looking for years. For example, I did a search on Amazon and the "You're the Best" result played "We Built This City" by Starship.

Kevin

I am also a horror fan and I am still hopeful, as they watched and seemed to enjoy The Shining, that they will get to Doctor Sleep... to get back to Danny ;)

Perry Taliaferro

The film was well done . It is the graphic content I know they will not find appropriate. I have watched all Tarantino movies. This is not it for them. Like I said I would rather them do one of the other movies from him suggested or even Dusk To Dawn before this one.

Lisa Rhodes

Pulp Fiction is my favorite Tarantino film. I find it hilarious, ridiculous, clever, and gross. I saw it in `94 at the theatre when I was 16. the dialog was so different than anything I had seen before. Great stuff. Amazing cast too. I do agree with Lisa that there's a high chance you guys won't like it, but not due to the overall quality of the film.

Saraliese

I just have been watching them do review since the beginning and really think that this one is not for them to do on here. I believe they will find it very repulsive and vulgar. I too watch Tarintino Movies and enjoy them but I watch horror a lot. They have only done some horror and never a movie like this. There is the Hateful Eight, Inglorious Bastards RESERVOIR DOGS (1992)Death Proof, and Jackie Brown that would still give them the fighting .

Lisa Rhodes

If you decide to watch Cobra Kai, I recommend you first watch the music video "Sweep the Leg" by No More Kings. I promise you'll find it funny as heck and it's actually a decent song.

Now that you’ve seen this movie, I have to tell you my story about Okinawa, where Mr. Miyagi is from. My grandmother was also from Okinawa, which she left when she was about 20 after meeting my grandfather in the Korean War in the early 1950s. Her family disowned her for falling in love and marrying a white man. She became pregnant, and stayed on base with my grandfather until he could be discharged. When she was eight months pregnant, they boarded a ship and traveled from Japan to California for the next couple of weeks. Once they got to Cali, they hopped on a train and spent another week traveling to New York where my grandfather’s family was. My grandmother went into labor as soon as they pulled into the train station, and my father was born! She didn’t speak to her family again until about 40+ years later. My uncle (my grandmother’s second and last child) had to go to Okinawa for a business trip back in the 90s. When he landed, he got into a taxi to go to his hotel, and he started having a conversation with the driver. He mentioned his mother was from there but hadn’t been in decades. The cab driver asked what the family name was, and it turned out he knew them! He was able to introduce my uncle to the family, and he met his grandfather for the first time. They were able to call my grandmother and have a virtual reunion filled with tears! They didn’t know what happened to her 40 years before that, and they felt bad about what happened. They welcomed her back into the family, and she got to go back and even celebrate her father’s birthday with him a couple of years before he passed. My grandmother passed away a few years ago, but with the little bit of her estate I inherited, I was able to travel to Okinawa in 2019 and meet all of our family for the first time! It was one of the most incredible experiences I’ve ever had. They were so nice to me, and even though only some of them spoke English, I felt so welcomed by everyone. Watching the Karate Kid as a kid myself in the 80s, I was always fascinated with Mr. Miyagi and would ask my grandmother about Okinawa and listen to her stories about her life growing up there. We bonded a lot when I was younger and she would babysit me daily, and that movie helps me feel connected to her still even though she’s gone. So, sorry for the long story, but I’m so happy you got to see a movie that means the world to me.

Come on full version of Karate Kid.

Living in L.A., you're regularly finding yourself in locations used for some movie or another. I had not watched this movie since moving here, so when it showed up on cable, I tuned in only to discover that I live just a little bit down the way from The Karate Kid. As soon as the Larusso family car pulled up in front the South Seas apartment building, I instantly recognized it from my many trips through Reseda using Saticoy St. 19223 Saticoy St, Reseda, CA 91335 Check it out on Google Maps street view, and you'll see that the apartment building itself has not changed much. The movie used a lot of locations residents of the San Fernando Valley can still recognize today, but this one touched my inner 14-year old knowing I lived a stone's throw from The Karate Kid. Oh, and the only thing worse than a family emergency is the kind of dillweed that would complain about a reaction video being delayed by one, so you're all good with us. Hope all is good with you and your crew.

Robert Greffey

How lucky that you can continue the story right away and not have to wait like we did when in the theaters. It's a great story about the relationship between a student and a mentor. Sending prayers for your real life emergency to be resolved quickly and easily.

I agree with Lisa on this. Especially after, like she mentioned, your reaction to a few of the scenes in Saturday Night Fever. I personally love Pulp Fiction, and all of Tarantino's movies (for the most part), but Pulp Fiction is just not a movie I think you guys would enjoy. Lisa mentioned Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as an option and once again, I agree with her (even though it does have some intense parts), but just throwing this out there for others to comment or correct me on, but... what about Kill Bill? Lots of violence, for sure, but... well... I don't remember much else. Of course I am and old fart, so the memory is an issue for me ;) Hahahaha

Perry Taliaferro

I certainly hope all is well. Best to all

Perry Taliaferro

Karate Kid is a great series. Part two is actually my favorite (definitely best music), Part three is a underrated and is at least, a must-watch in preparation for the Cobra Kai tv series which I'm 99% sure you two will love.

Jimmie V

You guys have to do the full Trilogy. Part 2 picks up right where this one left off so makes up for the abrupt ending.

The Mad Icelander

...and has a great Peter Cetera solo song, "The Glory of Love"

Kevin

Karate Kid Part 2 starts off where this one finished off. It’s a great movie!

Jennifer Sanchez

Definitely recommend after watching part 2 & 3 to watch Cobra Kai. It is soooo good!!

Jennifer Sanchez

Please Do not Do Pulp Fiction I hope you Read all the comments of everyone telling you about this movie. I think you definitely find it vulgar, offensivedue its grafic nature of rape sodomy, launguage, murder, drug over dose. I have watched this movie and I have seen all of your movie reactions and I know that if you think Saturday Night Fever was offensive this movie will make that one look like a Disney cartoon. I just know it is not for you guys. Watch it alone and you will probably shut it off in the first few minutes of it. Tarentino is a great director if you find it a need to do one of his movies Once upon a Time in Hollywood I would recommend.

Lisa Rhodes

Family always first and my prayers that all of your family are safe and healthy.

Geoff Thomas

There are 3 movies in the original series. Then 1 with Hilary Swank and then 1 with Will Smith's son.

Karen Silvera

It’s okay.

Kevin
