YT EDIT WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY (1971) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Comments

You guys need to do the prequel to the Lord of the rings it’s called the hobbit

The Dude

Here are some great movies to check out: "October Sky" (based on a true story, a very inspirational movie). "Beaches" -- another tear jerker, it features Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings", which I know you both loved. "Gattaca"

Rich H

You know, I've never actually seen the movie Harvey. Just the play it was based on. Weird, since I do like me some Jimmy Stewart. I should probably fix that.

Robert Greffey

The Wonka Bars were so good but they discontinued them ☹️

Jennifer Sanchez

Another classic favorite in the books!! How has no-one else recommended Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) yet? It has this same feel.

The Muppet movies in general are great. My favorite as a child was Muppets take Manhattan. My husband watched it with me last year, and even he enjoyed it as middle aged adult. Henson was a genius. I would love for J&A to do a reaction to The Dark Crystal. I watched it two weeks ago with my elderly MIL who had never seen it. It still holds up amazing, like it could've been made yesterday. And seeing it again as an adult, with a limited (but not non existent) understanding of movie making, it's a masterpiece. The sets and characters are so beautifully designed, and because they are real makes it's so much better, as opposed to CGI. Beautiful story, I think these two would really enjoy it.

Kristin D

For some reason this movie made me think of the Muppet Movie (1979) which is another one. I think you both should check out because I think he would really enjoy it and so with your kids.

Jeff Mills

This movie is a staple of my childhood. It used to come on TV all of the time and the great thing about it is there’s no language, nudity, or violence. You can watch it with your kids. And it’s got humor the kids and adults both will enjoy. Gene Wilder was and is a genius. This was the movie that really made him a star. You would love him in the Mel Brooks movies and the Richard Pryor movies. He truly was a decent, genuinely good person IRL, too, by all accounts. I love how this movie is a morality play without being preachy. Augustus, Mike, Veruca, and Violet are spoiled brats who disrespect their parents and Willy Wonka who all get their comeuppance in the end. They have money and can buy anything they want and they don’t appreciate it. Charlie, on the other hand, is poor, helps his family, doesn’t want for anything, and he shows his loyalty in the end which is why he is rewarded. I think the film teaches through humor that loyalty, honesty, humility, these are good things and qualities to be appreciated. The ending always gets to me. I don’t know if it’s the music or the moment where Wonka reveals to Charlie that he’s handing him the keys to the factory. I think Wonka was a big kid in many ways who refused to grow up for a long time until he realized it was time which prompted his searching for a successor. I think there was a method to his madness, however, and he also wanted to give some of these kids their comeuppance. He knew or hoped that Charlie would be the one and it was all a test including the moment when he berates him. Yet Charlie doesn’t betray him when the others certainly would have. I love this film and I love that you both loved it. ❤️

Jeff Mills

Great movie! Huge fan of Gene Wilder. When you get a chance Gene Wilder is great in Young Frankenstein and Haunted Honeymoon along with other great movies he has been in.

Jessica Pustka

Yes! Im so happy to watch along with this one!

Mat Evanz

They would love Harvey!

Kristin D

Love your reaction. I saw this movie on tv as a child and was a bit disturbed at the time. Loved seeing it now and thought it was great.

Janell

The Wizard of Oz is fantastic! I also think Harvey with Jimmy Stewart is a great magical movie and you can’t beat Stewart.

Janell

I remember watching this on tv and not appreciating it the way I do now.

Janell

I’ve never seen that one. Definitely going on my list.

Janell

Loved gobstoppers!!

Janell

Young Frankenstein is wonderful!

Janell

Blazing Saddles was one of my dad’s favorites. I have great memories watching it with him! ❤️

Janell

Dunno why, but when I first saw this, it creeped me out. Maybe I was a bit too young for the scary bits. So it probably prevented it from ever becoming a personal favorite, but it looks gorgeous and is a nice solid flick on the whole. And despite Ronald Dahl not liking the adaptation, Gene Wilder was pitch perfect for the movie they made. Also another example of a film not doing so well in its theatrical run finding it's audience afterwards and becoming an essential classic. If you're looking for more classic musical fantasy suitable for young audiences, you need look no further than a title that put in strong performance in our recent polling: The Wizard of Oz.

Robert Greffey

Second that. Watch Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein first from the 1930s, which are classics, and then watch Young Frankenstein with Gene Wilder.

Paul Patine

You have to watch Gene Wilder in Young Frankenstein, but first you should watch the classics in case you don’t know anything about the original story

Thomas Horton

I forgot to add did you know the original author of the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, Ronald Dahl, absolutely hated the movie and especially the casting of Gene Wilder?

Casey Salley

I agree, I think Grandpa Joe was secretly walking when they were asleep because no one can stand up and walk that easily after 20 years lol.

Casey Salley

Definitely one of my fave childhood movies growing up. It was daily viewing when I was 8-10 years old. It was nice watching my niece grow up watching it too. Never gets old.

Casey Salley

Amber, I'm going to suggest "Pans Labyrinth" again. Directed by Guillermo Del Toro, who's work has been characterized by a strong connection to fairy tales and horror, with an effort to infuse visual or poetic beauty in the grotesque. It's one of his Spanish films, but maybe you and Jordan would be interested in reacting to a foreign movie :-) The movie is a mixture of fantasy and the real world, so there will be some heaviness to it...so don't put it on your list of feel good easy to watch movies lol.

Patty Estrada

Great reaction. I only have one problem with this movie! WTH! Grandpa Joe!! You could have been walking & taking care of the fam but you wait 20 years! C’mon! Charlie was eating cabbage water! Such a deadbeat! 😂😂 Other than that this movie is epic. Gene Wilder is a LEGEND! Rest In Peace Willy Wonka. We know him and Richard Pryor are up to shenanigans up in Heaven.

Leonard

I always remember this movie being a total classic but also being a little wonky LOL. Gene wilder was amazing in this movie and I’m so glad you watch the original and not the remake. But I’m so glad you did react to this movie because I realized I like this movie a lot more than I thought I did. There is a second book that was written called Charlie and the great glass elevator. I believe I read it when I was a child but to be perfectly honest I don’t even remember what it’s about, and I don’t think they made it into a movie. Thank you for reacting to this movie and reminding me how much I liked it.

Mary Alice

Good Evening, Jay and Amber! Another golden aged classic I would recommend is Disney's The happiest millionaire, a movie about the 1920s and here is a trailer for you to check out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhxZC_o5QKo have a nice evening!

Silentwolfie62

I agree - Young Frankenstein is great.

Karen Silvera

A classic, nice choice. Gene Wilder was great as Willy Wonka.

Patty Estrada

The old gent who played Grandpa Joe is the man who played in Chico and the Man Jack Albertson...

Silentwolfie62

Sometimes dark this story is a classic goodness You never seen this movie . Good Lord you two been living under a rock? I am sorry never seen Wizard of Oz or Willie Wonka. Poor babies deprived of the classics. Ha ha . My son grew up on Horror movies and all the classics. He is 39 . Really how ?Every time you open a candy bar you will think of the golden ticket song from now. The different personality difference in each child is supposed to make it a learning lesson for children. you must let the girls watch this movie. Lickable wall paper snozzberries. See Charlie was the only child affected by Slugworth picture on the boat ride. That was Wonka's test scary stuff but it was Charlie who flinched when Slugworth. The book is Charlie and the Chocolate factory and the new movie with Johnny Depp is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Must do Wizard of Oz.

Lisa Rhodes

This was the very first movie I ever saw in a theater - 1971. Gave me one of my favorite quotes as an adult. "Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple." Thanks for checking out a childhood classic!

Deb Louie

Thank you for reacting

Elizabeth Franco

Yes a lot of the candy in the movie were actually sold

Mike Westlake

Sammy Davis Jr sang The Candy Man

Elizabeth Franco

Awesome! This will make a lot of our hearts sing...childhood favorite!! Plus Gene Wilder...such a wonderful actor. I hope you will watch Young Frankenstein come Halloween. Wilder is the main character. But you should watch it after watching the original Frankenstein.

Kristin D

Now watch The Wizard of Oz 1939

Elizabeth Franco

Based on the book by Ronald Dahl who also wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach 🍑 while the musical has geese and golden eggs the book has squirrels and nuts

Elizabeth Franco

One of my favorite childhood memories watching this on tv for the first time! Gene Wilder is such a versatile actor. You have to see him in Blazing Saddles

Elizabeth Franco

Awesome you guys watched this!! Great classic!!

David Croft-Ogawa

I love this movie!!! Excited to watch it after work today. Gene Wilder is amazing in all of his movies, especially when he teams up with Richard Pryor.
