It just occurred to me that the Total Solar Eclipse coming up this Tuesday will be visible in Oklahoma, and I immediately thought of a movie you Must watch. โThe Watcher in the Woodsโ is a 1980 Disney movie staring Betty Davis. It is known as a family horror film, more erie in todayโs standards, but the backdrop of the movie takes place during a Solar Eclipse. To all your fans, please help me promote this suggestion for Movie Monday (the day before the eclipse).

It has the charm of muppets and practical effects, but you need to be very forgiving as a viewer, even by 80โs standards. It is a twisted fairy tale from the imagination of Jim Henson. It is cult for a reason, its appeal is narrow but beloved by those it appeals to. Similar to the Never Ending Story but less popular. The balls rolling on the hands was performed by a juggler who had to do it from behind David Bowie without being able to see his hands. Skill and camera angle.

It seems so weird, then one day you make a joke and you become Sir Didymus or Ludo! At work if somebody leaves something in the refrigerator too long, it is guaranteed that somebody will be channeling Ludo- SMELL BAAAD! That's how they hook you! I predict Jay will dress as Jareth for Halloween this year!๐คฃ

2024-04-03 14:45:58 +0000 UTCI just thought of a Disney movie from the 80โs that is definitely wholesome, entertaining, and safe for kids to watch: โFlight of the Navigatorโ. That was another childhood favorite of mine that I still watch to this day.

2024-04-03 12:40:24 +0000 UTCI will probably get a TON of flack for suggesting this, but another cult classic you may want to consider is โHoward the Duckโ from 1986. That was also produced by George Lucas. Not very well received when it was released but definitely grew in popularity over the decades. I first saw it around โ87 or โ88 when I was a kid and always loved it for the cheesiness. And it also has Lea Thompson from Back to the Future (another trilogy that needs to be finished ๐).

2024-04-03 02:36:48 +0000 UTCI've never been very fond of any movie directed by Jim Henson that didn't have the word "Muppet" in the title. His big fantasy movies (this and The Dark Crystal) never really landed with me, but... the imagination of the designs and puppetry are second to none. So it's kinda fun for the spectacle of it all despite not really being engrossed in the narrative. When it comes to a film that's just a quest to recover a baby, I'll take Raising Arizona instead. ๐ In answer to your question about how the movie fared, it was a box office disappointment here in the US, but apparently did rather well overseas. It really found its audience, as so many "cult classics" do, in the second-run, cable and home video markets.

2024-04-03 00:56:22 +0000 UTCI saw this so many times when I was young, so I'm not sure I Can say I was shook. It is a trippy movie. There is a strange appeal to it though, and hard to not like (for me). The Jim Henson classic that I think is better than this is Dark Crystal. The story is grand, not as trippy. It's Jim Henson's brain child, he put everything he could into it. It's also all puppets, no human characters in the story. While I don't have a problem with the puppet/human mix, I think Dark Crystal is unique in that it's only puppets, and so beautiful done. I think you will enjoy the story, it explores the light and dark within. As for Jennifer Connelly, she's such a gem. I've never seen her in a bad role (for her). For a JC movie suggestion, I think you would like A Beautiful Mind. Based on a true story of mathematician with schizophrenia, John Nash. Jennifer Connelly stars along side Russell Crowe (who plays Nash). It's a wonderful movie, and I think it would be right up Amber's alley given her interest in psychology.

2024-04-03 00:49:34 +0000 UTCFunny that Jay mentioned Sesame Street, because Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, created all of those creatures and his team, for lack of a better word, controlled them. This was marketed towards the Tween girl crowd, but David Bowie drew in older generations. Might I suggest a fun movie to cleanse the palate. The CannonBall Run is a comedy with a Star studded cast. Perfect to clear the way for your next adventures. As always thanks for the smiles.
