FULL LENGTH PLANET OF THE APES (1986) | FIRST TIME WATCHING | MOVIE REACTION

Comments

Totally unrelated to The Planet of the Apes other than it's from the same era- Please add the movie Cool Hand Luke to your list.

There is no way to explain the impact of this ending for those of us who were around when it the film first came out. In 1968 everyone was very much aware of the possibility of blowing up the planet through nuclear war. Many people thought it possible that by the 1980's we would be in one. So this last scene hit too close to home for comfort. Even now, 56 years later, it packs a punch. It also highlights the ongoing battle between science and religion which we are still in today. The makeup was groundbreaking, since one of the huge fears of the film makers was that the audience would find the ages comic and unrealistic, but you just get drawn in so fast to their reality. I suppose today making these films the makeup is even better, but cannot take away from John Chambers achievement with prosthetics that enabled the actors to convey such a wide range of emotion. So glad you did this film. It is always a treat to see young people react to this one when they don't know the ending.

Yay! I'm excited for this one! I had forgotten all about Roddy McDowell. I really liked him. When you're ready for it cheesy 80s vampire movie you can watch Fright Night with him in it.

Your title says this movie came out in 1986. You meant 1968. 👴

Didn't one of you tell me on X that the sound of music is on the list for the week? I'm sorry I keep being a pest and bringing it up but I was ready for it today I don't know if you meant you were WATCHING it or POSTING it but... 😖😞 This is so frustrating
