Ok, I see what I did to trigger panic. I'll probably rewrite that one panel. I know the dread of Flowers for Algernon, and I here I don't think we hit is because we do a lot of reminders that Steph still knows who she is. Even on this page. She knows what media she likes. But the cultural word she used for is different.

For whatever reason this doesn’t give me any existential horror vibes like the “Flowers for Algernon”-esque stuff does, lol.

It's why she didn't immediately notice that she's saying the wrong words. She knows the right words, but isn't saying them.
